Dr. Cantu is Chief of Neurosurgery Service and Director of Sports Medicine at Emerson Hospital in Concord, Massachusetts, co-director of the Neurologic Sports Injury Center at Boston's Brigham and Women's Hospital, and Medical Director of the National Center for Catastrophic Sports Injury Research in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, an ongoing registry founded in 1982 to collect and analyze data on spine and head injuries. He is one of the leading experts on concussions in sports and the author of the most widely used concussion grading and return-to-play guidelines. Dr. Cantu serves, or has served, on numerous boards of professional organizations and as a consultant to scholastic and professional athletes on the return to sports after a head or spine injury. From 1992 to 1993, he was President of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), the oldest and largest sports medicine and exercise science organization in the world, serving as Treasurer from 1996 to 1999. As spokesperson for the ACSM, he has been interviewed on numerous national television shows, including the "NFL Today" (the effect of artificial turf on cervical spine injuries), CNBC's "The Real Story" (football injuries), "World News Tonight" (the deaths of NASCAR's Dale Earnhardt and the NFL's Korey Stringer from heat stroke and radio programs (including National Public Radio's "All Things Considered"). The author of over 250 scientific publications, including 17 books on neurology and sports medicine, numerous book chapters, peer-reviewed papers, abstracts and educational videos, Dr. Cantu is a frequent lecturer on a variety of health-related topics, including sports safety issues for high school athletic trainers, coaches, students and parents. Dr. Cantu received his B.A. from the University of California, where he pitched on the varsity baseball team, and his M.A. in endocrinology and M.D. from the University of California Medical School in San Francisco. He did his surgical internship at Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital in New York City, his neurosurgery residency at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), was a research fellow in physiology at Harvard Medical School, and, prior to joining Emerson Hospital, spent five years on the neurosurgery staff at MGH, as acting assistant director of neurosurgery and director of pediatric neurosurgery at Boston City Hospital, and in academic neurosurgery at the Harvard teaching hospitals.

Courtney serves as the camp's Food Adviser. She oversees the planning of our menus and recipes and conducts some of the camp rap sessions and one on one nutritional counseling sessions. During the winter, Courtney is always available for telephone consultation with parents and campers to answer their questions and offer encouragement and additional motivation. Courtney is currently a Consulting Dietitian at Golden Ventures Clinical Services in Boston, and serves as a Bariatric Dietitian at Emerson Hospital in Concord, MA. Courtney received her degree in Master of Science and Nutrition Science from the University of Buffalo and has been a member of the American Dietetics Association for many years. She looks forward to working with you at Camp Pennbrook this summer!

Mary B. Johnson is a Concord resident and former manager of the Mary Curtis Shop in Concord. She has served as an Emerson corporator and volunteered for the Hospice and Aftercare Programs. Philip W. Cheney is a resident of Concord with extensive experience in the application of leading-edge technology to complex engineering problems. At the time of his retirement from Raytheon, then the nation's third-largest defense company, he was vice president of engineering and quality management, focusing on Raytheon's extensive independent and US government-sponsored research and development activities. Dr. Cheney is a member of the faculty at Northeastern University in Boston. He lives in Concord.

Bill Mallon serves as a Managing Director of the Company and Chief Credit Officer of Commercial Real Estate. He also serves on the firm's Management and Underwriting Committees. Mr. Mallon has over 30 years of credit and risk management experience. He was most recently an Executive Credit Officer at FleetBoston Financial Corporation. There, he led a 34-person Risk Management Group that managed a $16 billion loan portfolio (commitments of $36 billion) in middle-market commercial, health care and private client sectors. Mr. Mallon also led teams to integrate portfolios and personnel of acquired companies and oversaw training of all acquired risk and relationship management teams. Previously, he was also Chief Credit Officer of Shawmut Bank (acquired by Fleet) where he oversaw a $21 billion portfolio, including commercial and industrial, commercial real estate and consumer loans. At Chemical Bank, Mr. Mallon was Group Chief Credit Officer of the Commercial Real Estate Group where he was responsible for a $12.5 billion commercial real estate loan portfolio. At Mellon Bank, he was Senior Credit Officer for Middle Market and (later) Real Estate Workout Head. He spent the first 14 years of his career in various lending, credit and workout oriented roles at Chemical Bank. Mr. Mallon has a B.A. from Boston College and a J.D. from the Fordham School of Law. He is admitted to the New York Bar.
