Fergus is the founder of Empower Solutions. He has worked with the most respected HR consultants in the world and is one of the most respected and experienced HR practitioners in Ireland. His major interest is in the development and implementation of Strategic Human Resource Management Policies, Processes and Systems which maximise performance and improve business results. Fergus has led research projects on Strategic Retention, Performance Management, Succession Planning and the usage of Competencies in Irish industry. He is unique amongst Irish and UK consultants in that he has adapted the 'best practice' thinking from the USA and particularly the practical models and tools developed by Dave Ulrich and Wayne Brockbank at Michigan and uses these to improve HR practice in client companies. He has presented with Dave Ulrich and has brought the leading HR thought leaders such as Mike Beer (Harvard), Charles O'Reilly (Stanford), and Jeffrey Pfeffer (Stanford) to Ireland. He has over 20 years experience in the Human Resources area and has overseen and been strategic consultant for a number of recent successful major restructurings. He has delivered a number of papers at international conferences on topics such as Strategic Human Resource Management, Team Working and the Role of the Front Line Manager. He has also lectured at graduate and postgraduate level on topics such as Human Resource Management, Business Communications and Industrial Relations.
