Empresa is the empress of South American energy generation. Founded in 1943 and headquartered in Santiago, Chile, Empresa Nacional de Electricidad S.A. (NYSE: EOC) is the largest electricity generator in Chile. The company has a total generation capacity of about 12,000 MW, two-thirds of which is hydroelectric energy and one-third is thermal energy. It has operations in Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, and Peru. It has 22 facilities in Chile and 24 facilities in other countries. It is owned, through holding company Enersis, by Spanish power utility, Endesa. The company had 2005 revenue of about $2.1 billion and employs about 590 people. In August 2005, it acquired the partnership rights in Globeleq Chile Inversiones ElTctricas Limitada and renamed it Inversiones Lo Venecia Limitada.
