Dr. Lumsden is Medical Director of the Methodist DeBakey Heart & Vascular Center at The Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas. Prior to this, he was full Professor and Chair, Department of Cardiovascular Surgery, The Methodist Hospital. Previously he was Professor and Chief of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy in The Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. He was also the Chief of Vascular Surgery, Department of Surgery of the Emory School of Medicine in Atlanta. Dr. Lumsden has received many grants to perform research in the areas of subcutaneous saphenous vein harvest, effects of locally infused nonanticoagulant heparin on venous neointimal hyperplasia, and thrombosis and vascular lesion formation. In 1996, Dr. Lumsden was inducted into the membership committee of the Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery. He is also a board member for the Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery, Association of VA Surgeons as well as the International Society for Endovascular Surgery. He received both his bachelor of medical sciences and bachelor of medicine and surgery from the University of Edinburgh. He interned at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, where he was also a lecturer in the departments of Pathology and Clinical Surgery. Dr. Lumsden has published and presented articles on his research more than 200 times and been an invited speaker both in the US. and abroad.
