Stephen A. Snider is Chief Executive Officer and is a member of the board of directors. He also previously served as President. Mr. Snider held the positions of President, Chief Executive Officer and director of Universal beginning with the acquistion of Tidewater Compression Services, Inc. in 1998, and was appointed as Chairman of Universal Compressor Holdings, Inc. ("Universal") board of directors in 2006. He has over 26 years of experience in senior management of operating companies. Stephen Ban is the Director of Technology Transfer at Argonne National Laboratory, a major center of science and engineering research in the Chicago area operated by the University of Chicago for the Department of Energy. Argonne provides solutions to critical energy, environmental, and security problems through research, development, and transfer of technology to industry partners. Dr. Ban is responsible for leadership of Argonne efforts in intellectual property stewardship, technology exchange with industry, cooperative program development, implementation of commercialization strategies, and identification/launch of new ventures and start ups. Prior to joining Argonne, Dr. Ban was the President of the Gas Research Institute (GRI); in this position he led the gas industry's major cooperative research program in developing advanced natural gas technologies. During his tenure, GRI brought more than 300 new gas related products, processes, and technologies into commercial use through joint research and commercialization programs with industry, government, and academic partners. The focus of the program was basic and applied research to reduce the cost of finding and producing natural gas and to develop new utilization technologies with increased benefits to gas users. Before joining GRI, Dr. Ban led research programs in industry at the Bituminous Materials Company in Terre Haute, Indiana, and Battelle Memorial Institute in Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Ban is currently a member of the Board of Directors of UGI Corporation, a national propane marketer and a member of the Board of Directors of Energen Corporation, a natural gas producer and distributor. He is also on the Board of Advisors of the Illinois Technology Enterprise Center (Argonne). Dr. Ban holds degrees in engineering and engineering science from the Rose Hulman Institute of Technology and the Case Western Reserve University. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the states of Indiana and Ohio.
