Because energy doesn't grow on trees, this company has to harvest the power of the sun. Founded in 1960 and headquartered in Rochester Hills, MI, Energy Conversion Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ: ENER) is a provider of electronic power generators and storers. It makes rechargeable batteries for electronic vehicles and a variety of electronics, as well as flexible solar panels for telecommunications and lighting uses. It's optical memory storage products have been used by Toshiba and Sony to name a few. The company had 2005 revenue of about $156.6 million and employs approximately 750 people. In June 2006,it was included in the new NASDAQ Global Select Market. Prior to the change, the company had been listed on the NASDAQ National Market.
