NSTAR

In the short span of time that John Flaherty has been in the industry, he has already proven that he has what it takes to be an outstanding security professional. John began his career in the security industry one year ago when he joined South Shore Security as a security officer at NSTAR's Westwood headquarters. John's strong customer service skills and approachable personality made him an instant success. Since joining South Shore Security, John has been promoted to Account Manager at NSTAR, where he supervises the site's security staff and acts as the company's intermediary. This position makes John the "front man" for South Shore Security, handling everything from detailed paperwork to special client requests. John says he enjoys South Shore Security's friendly atmosphere, adding that he sees it as working with a team of executives, rather than for them. Formerly employed in the financial industry, John holds an Associates Degree in Accounting from Northeastern University. A resident of South Weymouth, he spends much of his free time serving as a Captain in the Civil Air Patrol, performing 85% of the U.S. Air Force's inland search and rescue operations.

Bill has been a union member for 27 years serving in the capacity of a Sergeant of Arms, Steward, and Executive Board Member. He is employed as a leader in the Underground Department at NStar. He is also a member of the John P. McKeon Post, Neponsett VFW and the Norfolk Yacht Club.

Bob Senier is the Local 369 Business Agent for Production and Maintenance, in the northern region. Bob represents members at Boston Generation, Distrigas, ElecComm, Entergy, Excelon, NStar, Maverick, Mirant, and RCN. He has been a union member for 17 years serving in the capacity of a Steward, Chief Steward, and Trustee. Before coming to Boston Edison Bob served in the United States Marine Corps. Bob started in the Overhead at Boston Edison where he worked until his election as Business Agent last fall. While in the OH Bob held the rates of Lineman Grade C, B, A, Hot Stick and Hot Stick Troubleshooter.Bob is also Melrose youth hockey coach.

Carol has been a union member for 21 years. She began her career as a Meter Reader and has been a Field Service Representative for NStar on Cape Cod for 10 years. Carol represents members is all NStar divisions in Yarmouth and Martha's Vineyard. In addition to her current position as an Executive Board Member, she was also a Steward and Chief Steward in Yarmouth.

Dale has over 25 years experience in information systems specializing in data management, database design, data warehousing, and data quality improvement. Dale is currently a data architect at NSTAR in West wood, MA. He has worked in similar roles in manufacturing, consulting, banking, and medical products. All the companies have subsequently been acquired and have different names. Dale's mother, Norma, was diagnosed with ALS in 1995. A soloist in her church choir for 39 years, she was forced to give up singing shortly thereafter. She succumbed to the disease in March 1998. Norma died almost 25 years to the day after her uncle Oscar died from complications from ALS. This first hand experience provides Dale with the inspiration to help others dealing with the disease and finding new ways to provide hope for them and their families. Dale has been active with The ALS Association for four years, as a volunteer, as a board member serving on the Advocacy Committee, as a fund raiser for Curt's Pitch, and as Vice Chair. Dale is an avid golfer and enjoys travel. Dale is an accomplished photographer, having shown his black and white photos of Ireland several times in the Worcester area. Dale graduated from Dartmouth College with a B.A. in Economics and from Bryant College (now Bryant University) Graduate School with and MBA in Management (Summa Cum Laude)

Gloria is responsible for installing meters, removing meters and troubleshooting, and she echoes Sue's feelings about not being in a typical office environment, and the opportunities her job gives her to see and work with customers directly. "One of the most rewarding parts of my work is simply being able to correct problems," she said. "To see the customer satisfied is a great part of the job that we do." Having worked long-term in a non-traditional role has also given Gloria the ability to guide her two daughters as they move closer to entering the working world. "I give them the same advice I would give a woman coming into a job like this: have confidence, and do not be afraid to do your job and do it well. You cannot be fearful just because the work you are doing isn't traditionally a woman's job."

Jack Morrison is a Business agent for Local 369, southern region, representing members at National Grid and NStar. He has been a member of Local 369 for the past 26 years. Jack started in Boston Edison as a Grade II Clerk and then transferred to the UG where he held the rate of Cable and Conduit Installer, Splicer's Helper, Splicer A&B before transferring to Dispatching. where he has served as a dispatcher for over a decade. Jack is the Treasurer of the United Safety Alliance and a member of the Plymouth Bristol Central Labor Council.

Paul has been interested in security and law enforcement since he was a child. Growing up, he observed the law in action, when his grandfather was a judge in Quincy, Mass. Today, he enjoys ensuring the safety of both the NSTAR property and the people that work and visit there. A resident of Hanover, Paul graduated from UMASS Boston with both a B.A. and an M.A. in English. When he's not working, he makes time for some of his favorite hobbies: weightlifting, playing basketball, reading and writing. Kudos to Paul Roach for being an exemplary security professional and a valued member of the South Shore Security team!

Ron Ledgett, retired Executive Vice President, NSTAR Electric and Gas (formerly Boston Edison). While Senior Operating Officer for electric generation, transmission, and distribution for three service territories, he led Boston Edison through the deregulation of the power industry. He led a business culture where employees rapidly invented valuable new futures competently reorganizing themselves into new business units and adopting industry best-practices creating substantial shareholder value. Prior to working with NSTAR, Ron improved both nuclear ship construction and repair operations, and nuclear operations safety oversight and regulation while serving in the United States Senior Executive Service, Naval Reactors, Washington DC, and Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. He earned his master's degree in Electrical Engineering at Stanford-University.

Sue Adamski began her 25 year career at NSTAR as a clerk, but soon found where she wanted to be was in the field. "I think an office job is just not for me," she said. "I love being out and about, and really interacting with customers." After working in a couple of NSTAR's business areas, including Gas Service and Facilities, Sue is currently a maintenance technician for Gas Supply, working in NSTAR's Worcester location doing everything from dismantling regulators to testing the gas system. She feels one of the best "perks" of her non traditional job has been applying her mechanical skills at home. "As a single parent for many years, I was confident enough to take on many home improvement tasks I may not have before." Being in a non-traditional role, Sue also knows she sometimes provides and education for customers. When working in Gas Service, Sue went to a home without heat, only to be confronted by a customer who would not let her in to address the problem because she was a woman. Once finally allowed in, she quickly solved the issue, and the customer apologized for underestimating her. "It was nice to know I opened someone's eyes that day."

Michael Stephenson has served in a non-executive capacity for a number of diverse companies in the region and nationally. He is a member of the Government's National Task Force for Modern Apprenticeships and the Learning & Skills Council Tyne and Wear. Other terms of office include a council member of Durham University and he serves on the regional business panel for the Bank of England. Michael is also founder and Managing Director of Helena BioSciences, the largest Bioscience company in the North East and he is chairman of Nstar Limited.

CHARLES K. GIFFORD (66), Former Chairman, Bank of America Corporation, Charlotte, North Carolina. He served as Chairman of the Corporation from April 2004 until January 2005. Prior to that time, he had served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of FleetBoston since 2002. He also served as President and Chief Executive Officer of FleetBoston from 2001 to 2002 and President and Chief Operating Officer from 1999 to 2001. He has been a director of the Corporation since April 2004 and is a member of the Asset Quality and Executive Committees. He also serves as a trustee of NSTAR and a director of CBS Corporation.
