Sid Morrison was appointed to the Executive Board of Energy Northwest in July 2001 by Energy Northwest's Board of Directors. He served as Chair of the Operations, Construction, and Safety Committee from 2003 to 2006. Mr. Morrision was re-appointed to serve another term on the Executive Board in 2005. In June 2006, he was elected Chairman of the Executive Board. Mr. Morrison is a former legislator serving in the Washington State House of Representatives from 1966-1974, the Washington State Senate from 1974-1980 and the United States House of Representatives from 1980-1992. He was appointed as Secretary of Transportation by the Washington Transportation Commission in 1993 and served in that capacity until retiring from state service on June 30, 2001. Mr. Morrison holds a bachelor's degree in Horticulture from Washington State College. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954-1956.
Commissioner Curtis was elected in 1982. She was re-elected in 1988, 1994, 2000 and 2006. Her term expires at the end of 2012. Curtis attended the University of Oregon where she majored in English and music. Curtis is an associate broker with Windermere Real Estate/Stellar Group. Dan Gunkel was elected Commissioner of the Klickitat County Public Utility District (PUD) in 1991. He was appointed to Energy Northwest's Board of Directors that same year. In 1994, Commissioner Gunkel was elected to Energy Northwest's Executive Board. In April 2006, he was re-elected to serve another term on the Executive Board. Mr. Gunkel is a co-owner/business manager of Gunkel Orchards, Inc. Managing the daily operations of a medium-sized fruit orchard makes him representative of irrigators in Klickitat County. As a business owner and customer of the PUD, it is in his best interest to see that the utility is run efficiently and that it continues to provide low-cost power. He sought the Commissioner position because of a commitment to public service, but admits he also has an interest in seeing the PUD provide quality service. During his tenure as a Commissioner, Mr. Gunkel has supported the PUD's policy of not cross-subsidizing irrigators with revenues from other energy consumers. In the face of potential deregulation in the power industry, he says that by having each customer pay their own way, the PUD is more stable financially and less dependent on a handful of large consumers. Commissioner Gunkel resides with his family in Goldendale, Washington.
