Enersis keeps South America lit. Founded in 1921 and headquartered in Santiago, Chile, Enersis S.A. (NYSE: ENI) generates, transmits, and distributes electricity in South America. The company operates in three segments: Generation, Distribution, and Engineering Services-Real Estate. It serves over 11 million customers in Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Columbia, and Peru. Its Endesa-Chile subsidiary, with 13,000 MW of capacity, generates power for Chile, and all of its subsidiaries together distribute about 55,250 GW/hours of electricity. Spanish conglomerate Endessa S.A. holds about 60% of stock. The company had 2005 revenue of about $5.9 billion and about 11,700 full-time employees. In July 2006, the company received the distinction as one of the ten best companies for mothers and fathers to work for in Chile, in accordance with an annual survey carried out by the FundaciA¦n Chile Unido jointly with the Ya supplement of the El Mercurio newspaper, in which more than 400 companies and institutions in the country were analyzed.
