Entopia is a name derived from the Greek word entopizo (v. to locate or bring to light) and the more commonly recognized utopia (n. any ideal place or state). We chose this name because we think our software products and services are the perfect vehicle for discovering valuable enterprise knowledge. Entopia was founded in 1999 when entrepreneur Kamran Elahian of Global Catalyst Partners and Lionel Baraban joined forces to launch Entopia (formerly called KangarooNet). Elahian and Baraban had the goal of developing a tool to capture and collect electronic data so that those engaged in research could manage their own "chaos" of information more effectively. Kamran also co-founded Schools Online (1996), a non-profit public charity organization with the goal of bringing the Internet to every school in the world, and co-founded the Global Catalyst Foundation (2000), a private philanthropic foundation.
