Equitable Trust's principal business is residential first mortgage financing to owners of single family dwellings and multi-unit residential buildings. Equitable Trust is an alternative lender to borrowers who are unable to satisfy the strict underwriting criteria of conventional bank mortgage lenders. Equitable Trust also provides mortgage financing for commercial properties on a selective basis.

Austin Beutel is the co-founder of Beutel Goodman and Company (1967) and served as President and later Chairman until his retirement in 1994. Since retirement, he has enjoyed a successful career as a corporate director. He is the Chairman of Oakwest Corporation Ltd., a private family holding/ investment company based in Toronto. He is Chair of the Audit Committee of Accord Financial (Asset-Based Lending, TSX Listed); Aecon Group (Construction, TSX Listed); and Astral Media Inc. (TSX Listed).
