ESS Technology

Robert L. Blair was promoted to the position of President and Chief Executive Officer of ESS Technology in September 1999. Previously, Mr. Blair was ESS Technology Executive Vice- President and a member of the Office of the President from February 1998 through September 1999, and Vice-President, Operations, from December 1994 through February 1998. Immediately before joining ESS Technology, he was Senior Vice-President, Sales and Operations, of Logistix Corporation, a software turnkey company. Before joining Logistix, he was President of XEMAG, a division of Xidex Corporation. Mr. Blair previously held senior management positions in engineering, sales, and marketing at Precision Monoliths, Inc., a manufacturer of analog integrated circuits.

James Boyd was appointed Chief Financial Officer of ESS Technology in July 2000. He brings more than 20 years of experience in key financial positions. Most recently, Mr. Boyd served as chief financial officer of Gatefield Corporation, a Fremont, California-based manufacturer of electronic circuits used in PCs and consumer electronics. Before that, he was chief financial officer of AriMedia, a developer of wireless communications software. He has also held senior management positions at Farallon Communications, Fritz Companies, GTE Sprint, and Southern Pacific. Mr. Boyd has an undergraduate degree in accounting and an MBA in finance from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and a J.D. from Golden Gate University.

John Marsh was appointed Chief Financial Officer of ESS Technology in August 2007. With more than 20 years of experience in senior-level finance positions, Mr. Marsh joined ESS Technology in April 2001 and has held the position of Corporate Controller since September 2004. Prior to joining ESS, he held senior management positions in finance with SSE Telecom Inc. from November 1999 to April 2001 and Cylink Corporation from January 1997 to January 1999; previously, he held finance and accounting positions with National Semiconductor Corporation. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from San Jose State University and is a certified public accountant.

Fred Chan is chairman of the board of Vialta, Inc. Prior to founding Vialta, Inc., Chan founded ESS Technology, Inc. in 1985 where he still presides as chairman of the board. Chan was president and chief executive officer of AC Design, Inc., a VLSI chip design center, providing CAD, engineering and design services. He previously served as president and chief executive officer at CADCAM Technology, Inc., a CAE system development company that he also co-founded. His earlier experience includes various engineering and management positions at EMI and Intel. Chan received B.S.E.E. and M.S.C. degrees from the University of Hawaii.
