In the Wild World of URL Shorteners, Libya is King [Voices]
Google GOOG is betting on Greenland, Facebook on Montenegro and Bit.ly on Libya. The rise of URL shorteners — those brief links that are thriving on space-constrained networks such as Twitter — has in turn created a sort of gold rush to snatch up the tiniest and cleverest domains. Because...
Why You Should Give a Bit.ly About Short URLs
As I write the first draft of this post, the bloggers of the world are a-twitter with the ramifications of new shortened URL products being launched by Google and Facebook. Though neither will be available on the broad market yet, like market leader bit.ly (and cute also-ran tinyurl.com), like those...
Google, Facebook Launch Their Own URL Shorteners
Two internet heavyweights are entering the URL shortening business, despite its lack of a solid business model. Google (NSDQ: GOOG) says it is adding a URL shortener to its Toolbar and Feedburner products, which will now shorten long URLs to the goo.gl URL. Facebook, meanwhile, is automatically shortening some...
My Privacy Choices are my own Business

Google, Facebook, and our privacy: We're all in denial

Search & Real Time Madness

What Real-time Means for Google's Competitors
With the announcement of Google real-time search , the world's most popular search engine has thrown down the gauntlet in a battle it was already winning. Clearly recognizing the threat that the instantaneous nature of Facebook and Twitter represented, Google was smart to sign search deals with...
Google Integrates Twitter With Its Friend Connect
Say this for Google: The company does not like to have its rivals grab all the attention. Less than a day after Facebook announced it would link up Facebook Connect across Yahoo (NSDQ: YHOO) properties, Google (NSDQ: GOOG) announced the integration of its own identity platform with Twitter. People...
Identity Wars: Google & Yahoo! Bow to Facebook & Twitter
