Albert (Al) L. Lord is vice chairman and chief executive officer of Sallie Mae. He held this position from 1997 to 2005, and then served as Chairman of the Board of Directors. He was re-appointed chief executive officer in December 2007 and vice chairman of the Board in January 2008. Mr. Lord originally joined Sallie Mae in 1981 as controller and subsequently served as executive vice president and chief operating officer. He left the company in 1994 to found LCL, Ltd., a financial-management consulting firm, where he was president and principal shareholder. In 1995, he became an independent director of Sallie Mae and subsequently led a successful proxy contest to restore shareholder value and become the company’s chief executive officer in 1997. Mr. Lord began his career in 1967 with Peat, Marwick, Mitchell in Philadelphia, and later was treasurer at First Pennsylvania Corporation. Mr. Lord received a Bachelor of Science degree in business from Penn State. Mr. Lord is a member of the Board of Directors of BearingPoint, Inc., Children’s Charities Foundation and Children’s Choice Learning Centers, Inc., Chairman of the Board of Cesar Chavez Public Charter School for Public Policy, and member of the Advisory Board of Penn State Abington.

John (Jack) Hewes is senior executive vice president and chief lending officer and oversees the company's credit, loan operations, underwriting review and loan pricing policy, collections and portfolio management, technology and the Sallie Mae Bank. He joined Sallie Mae in March 2008 as chief credit officer. Previously, Mr. Hewes was with MBNA, the world’s largest independent credit card issuer, for more than two decades, where he led the consumer finance and business lending divisions. Before that, he worked for 16 years at Household Finance where he was responsible for branch offices throughout Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia before becoming a part of the executive team that led Household into the banking business. Mr. Hewes is currently a Board Member of Digital Sports and Villa Maria Academy H.S., as well as a past Trustee of Gettysburg College and Executive Member of the Board for Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Delaware.

John (Jack) F. Remondi is vice chairman and chief financial officer and oversees all of the company’s business strategy and is responsible for corporate finance, investor relations, accounting and reporting, financial planning, credit policy, risk management, corporate communication, philanthropic activities and human resources. Mr. Remondi originally joined Sallie Mae in May 1999 as senior vice president and treasurer as part of the acquisition of Nellie Mae, where he served as executive vice president of finance from January 2001 to August 2005. He worked as a portfolio manager of PAR Capital Management, a Boston-based private investment management firm, before re-joining the company in January 2008. Before Sallie Mae, Mr. Remondi served as chief financial officer and senior vice president of corporate finance and administration for Nellie Mae, a Massachusetts-based student loan provider. Before he joined Nellie Mae in 1988 as treasurer and chief financial officer, he was employed in the financial division of BayBank. Mr. Remondi received a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Connecticut College. Mr. Remondi is chairman of the Board of Directors for Reading is Fundamental, Inc.

Robert (Rob) Autor is executive vice president of operations and technology and leads the company's loan origination, servicing and call center operations as well as its information technology division and the corporate procurement function. He also runs Sallie Mae's guarantor services business and is responsible for Sallie Mae's financial institution sales organization. Previously, Mr. Autor served as executive vice president consumer operations and chief information officer which included responsibility for corporate marketing, consumer call centers, corporate procurement and information technology. He also ran Sallie Mae's loan consolidation business, led its corporate development unit responsible for strategic planning and mergers and acquisitions, and oversaw the integration efforts following Sallie Mae's acquisition of USA Group's student loan servicing, guarantee services and secondary market businesses in June 2000. He joined Sallie Mae in 1999. From 1993 to 2000, Mr. Autor served as senior vice president and chief information officer for Nellie Mae, a Mass.-based student loan provider. Also during his tenure at Nellie Mae, he served as chief operating officer of Nellie Mae’s student loan servicing subsidiary, ELSI and led Nellie Mae’s loan origination operations. Before joining Nellie Mae, Mr. Autor was a managing consultant for the general management consulting division of Towers Perrin (formerly Cresap) in New York. He also worked as a manager for Price Waterhouse in New York in the information technology and financial services industry consulting practices. Mr. Autor received a Bachelor of Science degree in business and computer science from the State University of New York. Mr. Autor serves on the Board of Flanner House, an educational, child development and social service center servicing Indianapolis.

Barry Feierstein is executive vice president of sales and marketing and oversees all aspects of the company’s education lending strategy. He is responsible for corporate, consumer and school channel marketing, product operations, direct-to-consumer and school channel sales as well as the company's Upromise Rewards and Business Office Solutions business units. Mr. Feierstein joined Sallie Mae in 2004 as part of the acquisition of Arrow Financial Services, where he served as vice president of marketing and business development. Prior to that, he served as CEO of RecovAR Group, a commercial collections firm, was a management consultant for McKinsey & Company and built and sold a distribution company. Mr. Feierstein received a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics and history, summa cum laude, from Tufts University and a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School.

Ronald F. Hunt, an attorney, retired from the Student Loan Marketing Association in 1990. Between 1973 and 1990, he served in several executive positions, most recently as executive vice president and general counsel. He also is a member of the board of directors of Enumerate Solutions, Inc. and vice chairman of the board of trustees of Warren Wilson College.

Prior to joining Sallie Mae, Joyce was partner and chair for Minneapolis-based Carmichael Lynch Spong, a full-service public relations firm. From 1996 to 2001, he served as vice president of public affairs for American Express Financial Advisors, leading the company's local and national communications. Joyce began his career with Prudential Financial, where he held several management positions over a 12-year period, including director of corporate communications.

Mr. Terracciano is chairman of SLM Corp., since January 2008. He was formerly president of First Union Corporation (now Wachovia), chairman and chief executive officer of First Fidelity Bank Corporation, president and chief operating officer of Mellon Bank, vice chairman of Chase Manhattan Bank, and non-executive chairman of both The Dime Bank and Riggs National Corporation. He currently also serves on the Board of Directors of Sovereign Bank. Chairman of Board of Directors and Chairman of the Executive Committee and Chairman of the Strategy Committee.

A. Alexander Porter Jr. is founder and partner of Porter Orlin, Inc., an investment management company he founded, in 1976. Mr. Porter is founder and director of Distribution Technology Inc. and is a trustee of Davidson College in North Carolina, the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, and Queens University of Charlotte, North Carolina.

Ms. Bates has been a strategic and financial consultant since 1997. From 1995 to 1997, Ms. Bates served as Executive Vice President, CFO and Treasurer of NHP, Inc., a national real estate services firm. From 1991 to 1995, Ms. Bates was Vice President and Treasurer of US Airways. She currently serves on the boards of Franklin Mutual Series, Franklin Mutual Recovery, and SLM Corporation (Sallie Mae). She has served as a director of the Company since 2003.

Barry A. Munitz is trustee professor at California State University, Los Angeles, since 2006. He is chair of California P-16 Council, an organization that develops strategies to improve education in the State of California, since 2005. From 1997 to 2006, he was president and chief executive officer of The J. Paul Getty Trust in Los Angeles. He was chancellor and chief executive officer of California State University System from 1991 to 1997, Dr. Munitz was chair of the American Council on Education and vice chair of the National Commission on the Cost of Higher Education. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Leeds Equity Partners Advisory Board, Broad Foundation and COTSEN Foundation, and as fellow of The American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Charles L. Daley is director, executive vice president and secretary of TEB Associates, Inc., a real estate finance company, since 1992. From 1984 to 1992, Mr. Daley held executive positions at First Peoples Financial Corp.

Earl A. Goode is chief of staff to the governor of Indiana since 2006, and served as deputy chief of staff from April 2006 to November 2006. He was commissioner of the Department of Administration, State of Indiana from January 2005 to March 2006. Mr. Goode was chairman of the Indiana Sports Corp. from 2001 to 2006. Retired as president of GTE Information Services Corp in 2000, he has served on the boards of The Chase Bank of Texas, N.A.–Dallas, NBD Bank of Indiana, Meridian Insurance Company and Williams Manufacturing. Currently, he is trustee of Georgetown College Foundation. Member of Finance and Operations Committee.

Mr. Strange has served as one of our directors since October 2003. In 2002, Mr. Strange retired from KPMG, LLP, an independent accounting firm, where he served from 1996 to 2002 as Vice Chairman, Managing Partner of U.S. Audit Practice and head of KPMG s internal risk management program. From 1998 to 2002, Mr. Strange served as Global Managing Partner of Audit Business and a member of KPMG s International Executive Committee. During his 34-year career at KPMG, his work included interaction with the Financial Accounting Standards Board and the SEC, testifying before both bodies on issues impacting the auditing profession and SEC registrants. Mr. Strange serves on the Boards of Directors and the Audit Committees of New Jersey Resources Corporation, a retail and wholesale energy service provider, Newfield Exploration Company, an oil and gas exploration and production company, BearingPoint, Inc., a business consulting, systems integration and managed services firm, and SLM Corporation (Sallie Mae), a leading provider of student loans and an administrator of college savings plans.

William M. Diefenderfer III has been a partner of Diefenderfer, Hoover, Boyle & Wood in Pittsburgh, Pa., since 1991. From 2000 to 2002, Mr. Diefenderfer III was the chief executive officer and president of enumerate Solutions, Inc. He also served as treasurer and chief financial officer of Icarus Aircraft, Inc. from 1992 to 1996. Previously, he served as deputy director of the Office of Management and Budget from 1989 to 1991. He serves on the Board of Directors of U-Store-It Trust (chairman). He was a member of the Standing Advisory Group of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board, from 2004 to 2005, and Commission on the Future for America's Veterans.
