Patrick J. Moore Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer Patrick J. Moore has served as chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation since 2003. Prior to that Moore was Chief Financial Officer, a position he held for six years. Before joining Smurfit-Stone in 1987, Moore served 12 years at Continental Bank in Chicago in various corporate lending and international banking positions. Beginning in 2005, Moore initiated and led the company’s successful three-year transformation effort which has resulted in one of the most modern and efficient corrugated converting operations in the industry. He has driven operational and functional excellence through the enterprise resulting in a more centralized, functionally aligned operating structure that is focused on quality, service, continuous improvement and consistent processes. Under Moore’s leadership, the company has grown the recycling business and improved productivity throughout the company’s mill, container and recycling operations. In addition, Moore has executed substantial improvement to the company’s capital structure, including refinancing debt and reducing debt by one billion dollars over the past three years. Smurfit-Stone has held the industry’s leading position in safety performance for seven consecutive years. Moore has served as the lead director for Archer Daniels Midland Company (NYSE: ADM) since 2006 and is currently a member of the executive and audit committees. Moore serves on the board of directors of his alma mater, DePaul University in Chicago. He serves on the Nasdaq CEO Council, J.P. Morgan’s National Advisory Board, and the boards of the YMCA of Greater St. Louis, Boys Hope Girls Hope, and Big Shoulders in Chicago. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from DePaul University, with a concentration in finance.

Steven J. Klinger President and Chief Operating Officer Steven J. Klinger is president and chief operating officer for Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation. He is also a member of the company’s board of directors. Klinger joined Smurfit-Stone in May 2006 from Georgia-Pacific, where he most recently served as executive vice president of packaging, pulp and global procurement. During his 23-year career at Georgia-Pacific, Klinger provided strategic leadership that was marked by numerous achievements. Over a six-year period beginning in 2000, Klinger led a team that transformed the packaging business at Georgia-Pacific from industry-average returns on assets and returns on sales to an industry-leading performance. Klinger played key roles in more than $10 billion of transactions as both corporate development director and executive vice president. He led the successful initiative to centralize global purchasing. When he joined Smurfit-Stone, Klinger began leading Smurfit-Stone’s operations through the company’s three-year transformation program, which includes upgrading the leadership talent, improving the company’s ability to meet customers’ needs, reducing the company’s cost structure, scaling operations, improving technology, specializing the manufacturing process, eliminating redundancies, and aligning sales and marketing. Klinger is a graduate of Georgia State University, with a degree in accounting, and Duke University’s Advanced Management Program. In June 2008, Klinger was appointed to the board of directors of Navistar International Corporation.

Charles A. Hinrichs Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Charles A. (Chuck) Hinrichs is senior vice president and chief financial officer for Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation, and he is a member of the company’s executive committee. Hinrichs joined the former Jefferson Smurfit Corporation as vice president and treasurer in 1995. Prior to joining the company, Hinrichs served as senior vice president and chief credit officer at Boatmen’s National Bank of St. Louis. During his 18 years in banking, he held several corporate lending management positions. Hinrichs earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Missouri–St. Louis and a master’s degree in finance from St. Louis University.

Craig A. Hunt Senior Vice President, Secretary and General Counsel Craig A. Hunt is senior vice president, general counsel and secretary for Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation. He is also a member of the company’s executive committee. Hunt joined the former Jefferson Smurfit Corporation in November 1990 as staff counsel. In 1993, he began serving as senior counsel and assistant secretary. He assumed his current post in 1998. Hunt practiced general corporate law for several years in the corporate finance section of the Shook, Hardy & Bacon law firm in Kansas City. He earned a bachelor’s degree in economics and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Kansas

Michael R. Oswald is senior vice president and general manager for the Recycling division of Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation. He assumed his current position in 2005 after serving as vice president of operations for the division from 1997 to 2005. Oswald has 30 years’ experience in the recycling industry and began his career at Smurfit-Stone as a fiber coordinator. He has held a variety of operational, sales and management positions, including general manager, regional manager of operations, and vice president and regional manager of East Coast operations. Oswald earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri–Columbia and a master’s degree in business administration from Washington University in St. Louis. He is a member of the American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) Recovered Fiber Executive Committee.

Ronald D. Hackney Senior Vice President, Human Resources Ronald D. Hackney is senior vice president of human resources for Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation, a post he assumed in 2003. He is also a member of the company’s executive committee. A 32-year veteran in human resources management, Hackney joined one of Smurfit-Stone’s predecessor companies, Container Corporation of American, in 1976. He served as corporate labor relations manager from 1986 to 1995 and held regional human resources posts in the container and mill operations prior to that. From 1995 to 2003, Hackney served as human resources manager for the company’s Mill division, where he made significant contributions to improving the division’s safety performance. He also played a key role in integrating the human resources processes of the Jefferson Smurfit Corporation and Stone Container Corporation mill operations after the November 1998 merger that created Smurfit-Stone, and the St. Laurent Paperboard Inc. mill system subsequent to the 2000 acquisition. Hackney earned a bachelor’s degree from Berea College in Kentucky and a master’s degree in business administration from Ball State University in Indiana. In 1969 and 1970, he served with the U.S. Army Rangers in Vietnam.

Dan Acker's 30-plus years of experience in the motor carrier industry includes all aspects of daily operations and administration, from line haul to financial statements, with heavy emphasis in the cost and statistical areas. Acker has testified as an expert witness on motor carrier operations before numerous state and federal agencies. As senior vice president of operations for SMC , Acker oversees the company's information management and administration functions, as well as General Rate Committee (GRC) services and distribution services. He also directs the National Traffic Database program, SMC 's Carrier Cost Index and other industry studies. He holds both B.B.A. and M.P.A. degrees from Georgia State University. Professional designations include being a C.P.A. (FL) and a Practitioner of Law before the Surface Transportation Board.

Danny Slaton began his career in transportation pricing data and technology with the Central and Southern Association in Louisville, KY in 1983. With the 1995 merger of SMC and CSA, Slaton was named the vice president of sales for SMC , and shortly thereafter the leadership of marketing was added to his position. Slaton was named VP of business development in 2004 and was promoted to Sr. VP of business development in 2006. Since that time, Slaton has been instrumental in the development and sales efforts for the current generation of SMC technology products, having served as a core team member in the creation of SMC 's major brands, including CzarLite, RateWare and FastClass. In his role as senior VP of business development, Slaton will still oversee the sales and marketing functions of the company, but his main focus will be to assess new markets, further strategic alliance initiatives and analyze business opportunities for SMC and its products and services.

Joe McClure has held various accounting and financial positions with SMC since he began with the company in 1972. In his current role as senior vice president of finance and administration, McClure directs and manages all of the accounting and finance, human resources, training and development, and building services functions.

Joseph V. LeBlanc Vice President, Research and Development Dr. Joseph V. LeBlanc, Ph.D., is vice president of research and development for Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation. His primary management responsibilities include innovation, intellectual property and packaging design. In addition, he is responsible for the operation of Smurfit-Stone’s Innovation/Research and Development Center. Prior to joining the company, LeBlanc spent 13 years at Union Camp Corporation, working in research and development, mill operations, corporate engineering, environmental services and quality control. During a portion of this tenure at Union Camp, he held a faculty position in the chemical engineering department at Drexel University. LeBlanc earned a doctorate in chemical engineering from the University of Massachusetts. He also holds a bachelor’s degree from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts. He is an active member of the American Forest & Paper Association and the Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry (TAPPI), and serves as a member of the Research Management Committee. He has also served as chairman of the Containerboard Technical Group and as a member of the Agenda 2010 Chief Technical Officers Committee.

Mack C. (Sonny) Jackson Senior Vice President and General Manager, Mill Division M.C. (Sonny) Jackson is senior vice president and general manager of the Mill division of Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation – a position he assumed in 2005. Jackson joined Stone Container Corporation, a predecessor company to Smurfit-Stone, as a project engineer at the company’s Florence, SC, mill in 1978. He has held numerous production and management positions within the Mill division, including serving as general manager of the Uncasville, CT, mill for two years and the Hodge, LA, mill for six years. In 2002, Jackson became vice president of mill operations based in Jacksonville, FL. Jackson has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Clemson University.

Mark R. O'Bryan Senior Vice President of Strategic Initiatives and Chief Information Officer Mark R. O’Bryan is senior vice president of strategic initiatives and chief information officer for Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation. He is also a member of the company’s executive committee. He previously served as vice president of operational improvement for the company’s former Consumer Packaging division. O’Bryan joined the company in October 1999 as vice president of procurement. He was appointed to his current role in July 2005. O’Bryan has 13 years’ experience with General Electric Company (GE), holding senior-level positions in sourcing and materials management at several GE manufacturing businesses, and serving as manager of global materials and sourcing for GE Aircraft Engines in Evendale, OH. Prior to that, he held similar posts with GE Plastics in Pittsfield, MA, and a GE Power Systems operation in Florence, Italy. A native of Louisville, KY, O’Bryan holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mechanical engineering from the University of Dayton.

Mathew J. Blanchard Senior Vice President and General Manager, Board Sales Mathew J. Blanchard is senior vice president and general manager of board sales for Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation – a post he assumed in 2000. He joined the company in 1995 and has earned positions of increasing responsibility within the board sales group. Blanchard served as vice president of supply chain operations for the former St. Laurent Paperboard Inc., which Smurfit-Stone acquired in 2000. He developed and implemented a companywide supply chain management strategy for procurement, transportation/logistics and operations planning. He served as both vice president and director of operations planning for several St. Laurent facilities. Prior to that, he held a variety of positions with Avenor Inc. Blanchard received a bachelor’s degree from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Nina E. Butler is vice president of environmental affairs for Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation, a position she assumed in 2006. Butler joined the company in 1996 as environmental counsel and was promoted to senior environmental counsel in 2004, with responsibility for a wide range of transactional and compliance matters. She began her career as an environmental attorney with the law firm of Hunton & Williams in 1990. Butler holds a bachelor’s degree in urban and environmental planning from the University of Virginia and a law degree from Tulane University.

Warren Patterson is the most recent addition to the SMC 's senior management team. Patterson has over 20 years' experience in the logistics and supply chain arena, with particular emphasis on solutions development, process evaluation, business strategy and management. As senior vice president of product strategy and development for SMC , Patterson is responsible for facilitating the direction and continued growth of SMC 's family of products and services. This includes product development and technology, data development and delivery, and internal and external support services. Patterson is an active member in the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (formerly CLM) and the Information Technology Association of America.

John Rader joined SMC in 2000 as Director of Industry and Educational Services. As part of his role with the company, Mr. Rader also accepted the Executive Director positions for two SMC -sponsored associations, LPC (Loss Prevention Conference) and TSMA (Transportation Sales and Marketing Association). In his day-to-day activities, Mr. Rader is responsible for developing educational content and events for the three organizations. The driving force behind SMC 's annual meetings and educational seminars, he also serves as a Quality instructor and Quality Improvement Team (QIT) administrator for the company. Mr. Rader is a member of the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP), the Atlanta CSCMP Roundtable and the Georgia Society of Association Executives. His accomplishments reflect his 20-plus years of experience in line and staff management on both the carrier and shipper side of the logistics equation. These accomplishments involve marketing and sales initiatives, business development, pricing, strategic planning, and logistics and administration.

John Haudrich is vice president of investor relations for Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation. Haudrich joined the company in 1995 and has previously served as senior director of investor relations, director of strategic initiatives, and interim head of investor relations, coordinating sales improvements, including developing a new sales-generation process. He also served as director of process improvement and administration in the corporate procurement department, as controller and manager in the company’s information technology department and as corporate accounting manager. Haudrich previously worked at Deloitte & Touche LLP as a member of the accounting firm’s audit practice. He graduated from St. Louis University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, summa cum laude. He also successfully completed the Washington University (St. Louis) Advanced Leadership Development Program and is a certified public accountant. John Haudrich, a CPA, served on the audit staff of Deloitte and Touche LLP before joining Smurfit-Stone in 1995. He earned his bachelors degree in accounting and finance from St. Louis University in 1989.

Brad Gregory has 24 years of experience in LTL transportation, logistics and technology. Mr. Gregory joined SMC in September of 2000 and is responsible for the Sales department, developing software alliances with supply chain technology providers and handling major accounts in the shipper, carrier and third party provider market segments. He also serves on the SMC Executive Committee. Mr. Gregory is a graduate of The University of Tennessee and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Transportation and Logistics. He is also a certified instructor in the Phillip Crosby Associates (PCA), Quality Improvement Process and has been involved with the implementation of the PCA principles at SMC as well as a major LTL carrier. His professional experience includes both sales and operational management within carrier, 3PL and technology companies. Mr. Gregory regularly speaks at software alliance user group meetings, educating the participants in LTL pricing and rating technology.

Paul K. Kaufmann Senior Vice President and Corporate Controller Paul K. Kaufmann is senior vice president and corporate controller for Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation. Kaufmann assumed his current position in 1998. Kaufmann joined the former Jefferson Smurfit Corporation (JSC) in 1990 as a corporate accounting manager and was promoted to director of corporate accounting in 1991. He was controller of the Mill division from 1993 to 1998. Prior to his employment with JSC, Kaufmann was a senior manager at Ernst & Young, where he worked from 1978 to 1990. Kaufmann earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Illinois.

Ms. Picchioni has a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Engineering from Montana Tech of the University of Montana. Rebecca began her career as an Engineering Intern at Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation, preparing emissions reports and assisting with various environmental programs. She worked at SECOR International Inc./ATC Associates Inc. assisting with environmental compliance activities, conducting site investigations, and performing pilot tests of remediation systems. As a Staff Engineer at Bison Engineering, Rebecca's duties include conducting ambient air quality data processing and reporting and preparing emission inventories. Rebecca collects data and performs calculations and modeling activities for area-wide emission inventories. In addition, Rebecca works with clients in preparing preconstruction permit applications and modifications, annual emissions inventories, and Title V permit applications.

Ronald J. Megna Assistant General Counsel and Assistant Secretary Ronald J. Megna is assistant general counsel and assistant secretary for Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation. He is located in the Chicago corporate office. Megna has more than 20 years of corporate legal experience. He joined the company in April 1987 as senior counsel for the former Stone Container Corporation. Prior to that, Megna served as associate general counsel and assistant secretary for Southwest Forest Industries, Inc., which was acquired by Stone Container. Megna holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Trinity College in Connecticut, and a Juris Doctor degree from George Mason University in Virginia. He is a member of both the Illinois and Arizona Bar Associations

Ms. Duckworth serves pro bono as President and Chairman of the Board of Arzu, Inc.; and is an active member of the U.S.-Afghan Women's Council, a bi-partisan public/private partnership established by Presidents Bush and Karzai in 2002. She is a retired Partner and Managing Director of Goldman, Sachs, & Co., where she was named the first woman sales and trading partner in the firm's history during her 20 year career. Her book, a primer on how to start a business entitled, The Old Girls Network: Insider Advice for Women Building Businesses in a Man's World (Basic Books 2003), was published in September 2003. Ms. Duckworth is the Chairman of the Board of Evanston Northwestern Healthcare, and is the first woman to hold this position. Ms. Duckworth serves as a Director of the following compannies: Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company; Smurfit Stone Container Corporation; Russell Investment Group; and DNP Select Income Fund. She serves on the Board of Overseers of the Wharton School, the Board of Directors of Global Heritage Fund in Palo Alto; and the Advisory Board of the Duke Islamic Studies Center in Durham, North Carolina. She is a past Chair of the Committee of 200, the organization of leading women entrepreneurs and corporate business executives in the U.S. The recipient of numerous awards, Ms. Duckworth was named a 2008 Skoll Foundation honoree for Social Entrepreneurship and received the 2006 Women's Health and Dignity Award from Americans for UNFPA for her work creating sustainable income generation opportunities for women weavers in Afghanistan. She holds an M.B.A. from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a B.A. from the University of Texas.

James R. Boris Retired Chairman & CEO, EVEREN Capital Corp. Mr. Boris, born October 25, 1944, was first elected as a Director in 2003. He is the retired Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of EVEREN Capital Corporation and its primary subsidiary EVEREN Securities, Inc. (now known as Wachovia Securities, Inc.). Mr. Boris is the non-executive Chairman of the Board of Integrys Energy Group, Inc., and lead director of the Chicago Board Options Exchange.
