First Federal Savings and Loan in Alpena was founded in 1957 by eleven community leaders who were willing to risk their own savings to provide residents of Northeast Michigan with a safe and convenient place to save their money and to borrow money for the purchase, repair or modernization of residential property. Now known as First Federal of Northern Michigan, we continue to add new products and services to meet the needs of our communities. Through our branch network, we offer consumer, mortgage and commercial lending. First Federal has seven full-service offices located in Northern Michigan - in Alpena, the Main Office on Second Avenue, and a branch office on Ripley Boulevard, Alanson, Cheboygan, Gaylord, Lewiston, Mio and Oscoda. All of our offices are designed with customer service in mind. Comfortable private offices are provided for all Loan Officers. We have drive-thru facilities and night depository boxes at most locations. All the offices have ATMs. The Alpena (Main), Mio, Cheboygan, Lewiston and Gaylord offices have safety deposit boxes available for our customer's convenience. We are extremely proud of having the opportunity to share our commitment to communities throughout Northeast Michigan. Michael W. Mahler was appointed as our President and Chief Operating Officer in January 2006. Prior to this appointment, Mr. Mahler was our Executive Vice President since November 2004. Prior to this appointment, since November 2002, Mr. Mahler was our Chief Financial Officer. Mr. Mahler was named as a director of the Bank in June 2007. From September 2000 until November 2002, Mr. Mahler was Corporate Controller at Besser Company, Alpena, Michigan, an international producer of concrete products equipment. From 1990 until 2000, Mr. Mahler was employed at LTV Steel Company, East Chicago, Indiana where he served in financial roles of increasing responsibility and served, from 1997 until 2000, as Controller for a northeast Michigan division.
