Thomas Built Buses is North America's leading bus manufacturer, offering a full line of school, commercial and specialty buses to value-minded buyers. More than one third of the school buses on the road today are Thomas Built Buses. From its manufacturing facilities in High Point, North Carolina, Thomas produces more than 15,000 buses per year. Thomas Built Buses manufactures three different types of buses: Type C conventional buses, Type D transit-style buses for longer routes and increased seating capacity, and smaller Type A Minotour buses. In addition, Thomas manufactures commercial overland coaches and specialty vehicles. The company was founded in 1916 by Perley A. Thomas, who began renovating and building streetcars. In 1936 the company began to produce school buses. Today, that same dedication to building the most reliable, safest vehicles possible has made Thomas Built the leader in the industry. Thomas Built Buses is a member of Freightliner LLC, the largest heavy-duty truck manufacturer in North America. Freightliner LLC is a unit of Daimler, the world's leading commercial vehicle manufacturer. Thomas Built Buses are custom designed and built for every customer and are sold through independently-owned dealers throughout North America.
