Ms. O'Keeffe is an Assistant General Counsel in the Fresenius Medical Care North America Law Department and Division Counsel for FMCEA. Ms. O'Keeffe holds a B.A. Degree from George Washington University; J.D. Degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Law (Magna Cum Laude); M.P.H. Degree, University of North Carolina School of Public Health in Health Policy and Administration; and L.L.M. Degree from Concord University in Health Care Law. Before joining Fresenius Medical Care in 2005, Ms. O'Keeffe served as Vice President of the Department of Legal Affairs for an academic medical center and oversaw the establishment of the Department of Legal Affairs. The academic medical center is an 800-plus nationally regarded Level 1 Trauma Center that provides a full array of quaternary and tertiary care services. Ms. O'Keeffe was General Counsel for the hospital and its subsidiaries, including Brenner's Children's Hospital, a PPO, an HMO, a primary care network, home health and community health system, a laboratory, and a rural hospital network. Expertise includes intellectual property matters, HIPAA, contracts, corporate compliance, corporate law, risk management, employment law, managed care, tax-exempt bond financing, and general health care law (fraud and abuse, Stark II, EMTALA). Ms. O'Keeffe previously was employed as a Vice President of the Department of Legal Affairs at a 420-bed hospital affiliated with an academic medical center in the south Atlantic region. Ms. O'Keeffe is a member of the Massachusetts, Connecticut, and North Carolina Bar, and was an honors graduate (Magna Cum Laude) of Case Western Reserve University School of Law where she concentrated her studies in health care law.
