Adrian Montague was appointed chairman in May 2005, having been appointed as an independent director in October 2004. He is a member of the Investment and Nomination committees; the non-executive chairman of British Energy Holdings plc, Michael Page International plc and Infrastructure Investors Ltd; and a non-executive director of Cellmark Holdings AB (Sweden) and a trustee of the Waterways Trust. Mr Montague was formerly the deputy chairman of Network Rail and chairman of Cross-London Rail Links Ltd (Crossrail). He has also been chief executive of the Treasury Taskforce and deputy chairman of Partnerships UK plc, and in his early career, he was a partner of Linklaters & Paines, and subsequently the global head of project finance for Dresdner Kleinwort Benson.

Ray King was appointed a director in January 2004. He is a member of the Audit and Compliance and Investment committees and has been a group finance director for BUPA since 2001. Mr King was formerly the deputy chief executive of Parity Group plc, the director of group finance and control at Diageo plc and the group finance director of Southern Water plc.

Alison Carnwath was appointed a Board director in September 2004 and serves as an independent member of both the Audit and Remuneration committees. A chartered accountant by training, Alison is currently a non-executive Director of Gallaher Group plc, Friends Provident plc, Man Group plc and Welsh Water.

Danielle joined the Foundation on the 1 November 2004 after 6 years as Director of Policy & Practice Development at the Joseph Rowntree Foundation. Previously, Danielle was Acting Head of Policy at the Community Fund (now part of the Big Lottery Fund) with special responsibility for devising, monitoring and evaluation systems for grant-making as well as planning grant programmes. She has worked in the past as a senior member of the Research and Policy teams of the Law Society of England and Wales, the London Borough of Islington, the Commission for Racial Equality and the London Research Centre. She is a Trustee of Rowntree Society and a governor at the Mount School York. She is also a member of the Advisory Group for the National Consumer Council. Danielle has extensive experience in maximising the impact of giving and looks forward to working with the Foundation's Trustees to develop the programmes and ways of working that will meet our objectives of "making a difference".

Gerhard Roggemann is a Vice Chairman of Hawkpoint Partners Europe and is responsible for the development of Hawkpoint's German business, particularly in the Financial Services area. Gerhard has spent all his career in banking. Prior to joining Hawkpoint in 2004, he spent 12 years with JP Morgan in New York, Frankfurt and Tokyo in various Corporate Finance and Trading functions. Thereafter he served as a member on the Managing Boards of Norddeutsche Landesbank (for 5 years), and of Westdeutsche Landesbank (for 8 years). Gerhard is a Non-Executive Director of Deutsche Borse AG, GP Gunter Papenburg AG (construction - Chairman), Friends Provident plc (insurance) and F&C Asset Management plc. He is a member of the advisory boards of VHV Holding AG (insurance) and Swift Capital Partners (Private Equity).

Gillian Pugh is the former Chief Executive of Coram Family, a post she has held since 1997. Established in 1739 as the Foundling Hospital, Coram Family is a leading children's charity which aims to develop and promote best practice in the care and support of very vulnerable children and their families. Gillian has been responsible for extending the range of services, and for establishing Coram's reputation as an innovative and high quality organisation.

Jenny is currently on secondment to the Scarman Trust in Bristol, a national charity working with people in commonly excluded communities to bring about practical change. She is also Trustee and former Chair of Bede House Association, a settlement in South London. Both roles give an insight into practical solutions to complex social problems as well as into voluntary sector management, governance and funding issues.
