JOHN S. NAGY graduated from Western Michigan University in 1974 with a B.S. in engineering, with a first major in industrial engineering and a second major in aviation engineering. He received his Juris Doctor from DePaul University in 1981. He was the editor of the Law Review's Symposium Issue focusing on intellectual property topics. Mr. Nagy has trial experience before judges and juries in litigating patent infringement matters involving a broad range of technologies. He has focused primarily on litigation and litigation support in the mechanical and chemical arts, and has experience in trade secret matters. Also, he has substantial experience in prosecuting U.S. and foreign patent applications, primarily in the mechanical arts. Mr. Nagy joined the firm in October 1984 as an associate and became a partner in 1989. From 1981 to 1984, he was an associate with the firm of Leydig, Voit, & Mayer in Chicago , working primarily in patent litigation, trade secret litigation, counseling clients concerning trade secret protection, and licensing matters for high technology corporations. Mr. Nagy is admitted to practice in California , U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and before U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He is a member of State Bar of California, Los Angeles County Bar Association, American Bar Association, Los Angeles Patent Law Association, and Los Angeles Intellectual Property Law Association.

CRAIG B. BAILEY earned his B.S. in electrical engineering (cum laude) and a B.A. in sociology (cum laude) from Bucknell University in 1975, where he was elected to Tau Bet Pi. He received his Juris Doctor (with honors) from George Washington University in 1978. Mr. Bailey has experience in all aspects of intellectual property, with special emphasis on the litigation and prosecution of patents throughout the world. He has been involved in patent litigation in both Europe and the Middle East, and has represented clients in many patent and trade secret actions before both state and federal courts at the trial and appellate levels in the United States . He has been active worldwide in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications and in client counseling from small start-up companies to major corporations and universities. His practice covers a wide spectrum of technical disciplines, including complex optical and electronic arts. His experience also extends to trademark and copyright matters, and to intellectual property contracts and license agreements. Mr. Bailey joined the firm as an associate in 1986 and became a partner in 1989. He served as corporate patent counsel for a major aerospace company responsible for patent litigation, invention evaluation and client counseling. Previously, Mr. Bailey was a law clerk and technical advisor to the Honorable Howard T. Markey, formerly the Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Mr. Bailey is admitted to practice in California and the District of Columbia; U.S. Court of Appeals, Federal Circuit; California Supreme Court; U.S. Supreme Court, U.S. District Court, Northern, Eastern, Central and Southern Districts of California, and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He is a member of the State Bar of California, Los Angeles County Bar Association, American Bar Association, Los Angeles Patent Law Association, The District of Columbia Bar Association, and American and Los Angeles Intellectual Property Law Associations.

DAVID G. PARKHURST specializes primarily in prosecution of U.S. and foreign patents, patentability, infringement and validity studies relating to chemistry, polymer chemistry, and chemical engineering, and biomedical, mechanical, optical, and software technologies. Before joining the firm in 1987, Mr. Parkhurst worked for five years as sole practitioner in general legal matters, including family law, personal injury, and bankruptcy law, before joining another intellectual property firm for two years as an associate, where he was responsible for legal research and discovery in patent and copyright litigation matters, drafting of patent applications, preparation of patent and trademark amendments, and patent novelty, patent infringement, and trademark availability opinions. He then worked for seven years as an associate for a firm in the field of international patent law, with emphasis primarily in foreign patent prosecution matters in the fields of chemistry, chemical engineering, pharmaceuticals, electronics, mechanical and computer related matters. He received an Associate of Arts in pre-medical studies in 1967 from Pasadena City College , a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of California at Los Angeles , 1969; a J.D. from the University of Southern California in 1973 and a second bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from California State University at Northridge in 1979. He is the author of "Harmonization - Peace in our Time?" published in the California State Bar, Intellectual Property Section journal, "New Matter," Spring 1992.

Mr. Pitman joined the firm as an associate in 1997. He is a member of the South African Counsel of Professional Engineers, and has five years' experience as a consulting engineer, during which time he was involved in a wide range of civil and structural projects, including work on the Thames Barrier, London. Mr. Pitman also has seven years' experience at the South African Bar, and three years' experience in the litigation department of Latham & Watkins, Orange County.

DOUGLAS R. PETERSON joined the firm as an associate in 2001. While specializing in the areas of patent prosecution and litigation, Mr. Peterson is also involved with matters including trademarks, copyrights, foreign patent prosecution and opinion work. The range of his technical experience includes mechanical, chemical, and biomedical technologies.

GARY M. ANDERSON has extensive experience in the litigation of patent, trademark and trade secret matters in both State and Federal Courts and before the International Trade Commission. He also has significant experience in the preparation and prosecution of patent and trademark applications. Mr. Anderson's litigation background extends to a variety of technologies, while his patent prosecution has been primarily directed to the mechanical arts.

GUNTHER O. HANKE is experienced in all phases of patent prosecution involving the chemical, mechanical, electro-mechanical and electro-optical arts with a major focus on medical devices including stent and catheter systems. In addition to opinion work relating to the patentability of inventions and the validity and infringement of patents, he has significant experience in developing and managing large and complex patent portfolios including substantial foreign dockets. His engineering experience includes both basic research as well as R&D for commercial applications.

HOWARD N. SOMMERS received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Case Institute of Technology in Cleveland, Ohio in 1964, and his Juris Doctor from New York University School of Law in 1967. He has intensive experience in all areas of intellectual property law, including prosecution and defense of patent, trademark, copyright, unfair competition and trade secret claims in federal and state courts, representing both plaintiffs and defendants in judge and jury trials. He also has intensive experience in prosecuting U.S. and foreign patent and trademark applications, interference, reexamination, and reissue proceedings before the Patent Office, and licensing matters. He has also served as an expert witness in patent cases. He is primarily active in technical areas dealing with computers, electronics, multimedia, software, hardware, optics, and medical technology. Mr. Sommers has been Of Counsel to the firm since September 1996. Before joining the firm he was an Examiner's Assistant in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in 1963. He was a partner in the intellectual property firm of Sommers & Sommers in New Jersey from 1967 to 1979. From 1980-1983 he was with intellectual property law attorney I. Morley Drucker in Beverly Hills, California, and he was a partner in the intellectual property law firm of Drucker & Sommers in Beverly Hills, California from 1983 to 1996. Mr. Sommers is admitted to practice in California, New Jersey, Florida, the Federal District and Appeals Court, the U.S. Supreme Court, and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He is a member of the State Bar of California, Beverly Hills Bar Association and Los Angeles Intellectual Property Law Association.

JAMES JUO specializes in both litigation and patent prosecution. As a registered patent attorney, he has been successful in obtaining, licensing, and enforcing patents and trademarks. He also advises clients on the scope and validity of third party patent rights. He has worked on a wide range of technologies, including medical devices and computer-related technology. He has also advised the producers of American Inventor on patent issues. In his litigation practice, Mr. Juo has been involved in patent litigation at both the trial and appellate level, including summary judgment, Markman claim construction hearings, and jury trials in several U.S. District Courts. Mr. Juo also helped obtain a multi-million dollar award for one of his litigation clients. He has also participated in several Federal Circuit appeals, including Advanced Cardiovascular Sys., Inc. v. SciMed Life Sys., Inc., 261 F.3d 1329 (Fed. Cir. 2001) (winning reversal of adverse claim construction to vacate summary judgment); Medtronic, Inc. v. Advanced Cardiovascular Sys., Inc., 248 F.3d 1303 (Fed. Cir. 2001) (winning affirmation of favorable district court decision); and Origin Medsystems, Inc. v. General Surgical Innovations, Inc., No. 98-1416, slip op. (Fed. Cir. 1999) (successfully overturned adverse summary judgment decision). Mr. Juo was recognized as a Southern California Super Lawyer in 2007, and as a Southern California Super Lawyer Rising Star in 2005 and 2006, by the publishers of Los Angeles Magazine and The Journal for Law & Politics. He also recently sat on a select discussion panel at The Patent Office Comes to California seminar sponsored by the Intellectual Property Law Section of the State Bar of California. Earlier in his career, Mr. Juo served as a patent examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in the technology area of television and facsimile machines. Mr. Juo earned his J.D. from George Washington University in 1993, and his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Clarkson University in 1989. Mr. Juo is admitted in California and Virginia, and is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He is also a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association, and the Southern California Chinese Lawyers Association.

Mr. Paul joined the firm as a partner in 1986. Before joining the firm, he was intellectual property counsel responsible for the Space and Technology Group of TRW. Before obtaining his law degree, he was a project manager and line manager with TRW, and was with Aerospace Corporation and Rockwell International. Mr. Paul has a broad range of experience in most of the technologies related to spacecraft, aircraft, propulsion systems and high performance land vehicles. He was responsible for developing many advanced simulation techniques for such systems, having been project manager for the project Apollo simulators, and part of the original design team for GPS, and project manager for many ballistic missile sensor and computer systems. He has assisted in licensing of technology and negotiation of technology development agreements between major corporations. Since beginning the practice of law, Mr. Paul has prosecuted and litigated patents, trademarks and copyrights in many technologies, including scientific instruments, medical devices, animal and human vaccines and health treatments, and computer related technologies. In addition to his legal and technical activities, Mr. Paul is an active instrument pilot.

Jessie Brookhart-Knost earned her B.S.C. in Film Business and Art-Photography from the University of Miami in 2002. She graduated from Whittier Law School with a Certificate in Intellectual Property in 2006. While there, Ms. Brookhart-Knost served as a member of both the Whittier Law Review and Moot Court Honors Board, earning the distinction of Most Outstanding Member of both organizations in 2006. Ms. Brookhart-Knost competed in various moot court competitions, including the Saul Lefkowitz Trademark Moot Court competition wherein her team took Third Place in the Western United States in 2006. Ms. Brookhart-Knost joined the firm as an associate in 2006. Her practice includes the preparation and prosecution of copyrights and trademarks, as well as litigation of trademarks, copyrights, patents, and related business issues of unfair competition.

Jessie K. Reider received her B.A. in International Studies from Emory University in 2001. She graduated from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law with a Certificate in Intellectual Property in 2004. While there, Ms. Reider served as the Executive Editor of the Cardozo Women's Law Journal. Ms. Reider joined the firm as an associate in 2005. Her practice includes the preparation and prosecution of trademarks and copyrights. While in law school, Ms. Reider spent time as a legal intern at Gucci America, Inc., assisting in trademark protection and anti-counterfeiting programs. Ms. Reider was a summer associate at the Law Office of Jodi Peikoff, an entertainment law firm in New York City. Ms. Reider is admitted to practice in California and in the United States District Court, Central District of California. She is a member of several professional organizations including the State Bar of California, the Long Beach Bar Association and the Los Angeles Bar Association.

JOHN V. HANLEY, specializes in the prosecution and litigation of patents throughout the world. His practice covers a broad range of technologies including mechanical and electro-mechanical arts, optics, and the medical sciences. He has extensive experience in conducting patent clearance studies and rendering opinions concerning patent validity and infringement. He has been involved in litigation both at the district and appellate levels and has patent trial and mediation experience. He also has been active in counseling clients from small start-up companies to major corporations and universities and his experience extends to licensing, trademarks and copyrights. Mr. Hanley joined the firm as an associate in 1992 and became a partner in 2000. Before that time, he worked as an engineer and in project management for Beckman Instruments, a manufacturer of automated medical instrumentation, where his engineering experience was in electro-mechanical, optical, chemical and computer technologies. Mr. Hanley received his Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Mechanics and Engineering Sciences from the

LEONARD D. MESSINGER received his B.A. cum laude in 1974 from Temple University at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and his Juris Doctor degree in 1978 from Southwestern University, where he was a member of the Southwestern University Law Review. Mr. Messinger's professional practice includes patent litigation, and office practice and litigation in the areas of trademarks, trade names, trade dress, copyrights, trade secrets, unfair competition, Internet matters and related business matters including licensing and contract negociation. Mr. Messinger has prosecuted numerous trademark applications in the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and represented clients in trademark proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. He has had extensive experience in prosecuting trademarks in foreign countries.

MICHAEL E. HOFFMAN, MD JD was a busy practicing physician before changing careers and becoming a patent attorney. Dr. Hoffman's many years in surgical practice have resulted in extensive hands-on experience with the use of medical devices and surgical instrumentation systems. Dr. Hoffman has special interest in the prosecution of medical device patents. Dr. Hoffman received his BA in Biology from State University of New York at Buffalo and also received his MD degree at State University of New York at Buffalo . He then completed a Surgical Internship at University of California San Diego and completed a Neurosurgical residency at University of Washington in Seattle . Dr. Hoffman was admitted before the US Patent and Trademark Office in 2000 and graduated from Pepperdine Law school in 2001. He joined the firm as an associate in 2004.

RONALD E. PEREZ specializes in the prosecution and litigation of patent, trademark and copyright matters. His engineering experience includes a broad range of chemical, process and computer technologies. He has been responsible for all phases of discovery and motion practice in federal court litigation, oppositions and interferences. He is currently responsible for managing the prosecution of domestic and foreign patent and trademark portfolios for several medical technology clients. Mr. Perez joined the firm as an associate in 1990 after nearly ten years of experience in the process control industry. He holds a Professional Engineers Certification in Control Systems from the State of California . He previously held the positions of Branch Manager and Principal Applications Engineer with the Foxboro Company's Los Angeles office. He is very active in the Southern California Section of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and serves as the Legal Reporter for the section's newsletter. Mr. Perez received his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Ohio State University in 1978, and received his J.D. from the University of Wisconsin in 1990. He also received a Masters degree in Business Administration in 1987 from California State Polytechnic University , Pomona .

SCOTT R. HANSEN received his B.S. with majors in Political Science and Applied Mechanics from UC San Diego in 1985. He earned an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from UC Santa Barbara in 1987, and graduated cum laude from the Indiana University School of Law in 1992. Mr. Hansen worked as a research engineer after engineering graduate school, writing computer software that performed engineering design optimization. He studied with and worked under Dr. Garret Vanderplaats, one of the leading experts in the world on engineering design optimization. As an attorney, Mr. Hansen specializes in intellectual property litigation, prosecution, and licensing. He has run numerous patent, trademark, trade secret and unfair competition law suits on a day-to-day basis. He recently conducted a full trial before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, and argued to a three judge panel in Washington, D.C. He is also well versed in patent and trademark prosecution and opinion work. Mr. Hansen is co-author of California Causes of Action, a widely-used treatise relating to state causes of action. He authored chapters on trademark infringement, trademark dilution, trade dress infringement, and statutory and common law unfair competition. For the past several years, he has delivered an annual update to the Century City Bar Association on developments in patent law. Mr. Hansen is also immediate past Editor of New Matter, a law journal of the California State Bar. He currently serves as a member of the Executive Committee of the IP Section of the State Bar. Scott is a past recipient of a Volunteer of the Year award from the Harriett Buhai Center for Family Law for his extensive pro bono work on behalf of low-income clients in Los Angeles. He has served as an officer on the Barristers Board of Directors of the Beverly Hills Bar Association, and on the Board of Directors of the Los Angeles Intellectual Property Law Association. Mr. Hansen joined Fulwider after serving as a Partner in the Los Angeles and Newport Beach offices of Oppenheimer Wolff & Donnelly LLP. He is admitted to practice in California, and before numerous courts, including the Central, Southern, Northern and Eastern Districts of California and the Court of Appeals for the Federal and Ninth Circuits. STEPHEN J. STRAUSS received his B.A. and M.A. in Political Science from American University in 1980 and his Juris Doctor in 1983 from Southwestern University . He specializes in trademark, copyright, unfair competition and trade secret law, including prosecution and litigation matters. Mr. Strauss also has extensive experience in prosecuting and litigating trademarks in foreign countries. Mr. Strauss has represented a wide range of diverse clients including biomedical device manufacturers, restaurants, Las Vegas hotels and casinos, clothing and toy manufacturers, magazine and book publishers, advertising agencies, computer software developers and media and entertainment companies. Mr. Strauss' roster of clients also includes a number of well known celebrities, sports personalities and recording artists. He has authored Don't Be Burned by Berne: A Guide to the Changes in Copyright Laws as a Result of the Berne Convention Implementation Act of 1988, Journal of the Patent and Trademark Office Society (1989); Beat the Clock: The Effect of Section 412 of the Copyright Act on Post-Infringement Registration, Journal of the Patent and Trademark Office Society (1990); Don't Be Burned by Berne II: Recent Changes to the Copyright Act Regarding Architectural Works, Copyright World (1992). Also, he has lectured extensively on various aspects of intellectual property law before the International Trademark Association, Los Angeles Intellectual Property Association, Beverly Hills and Century City Bar Associations, California Furniture Manufacturers Association and others. Mr. Strauss has also been featured in articles published in the Los Angeles Times, Los Angeles Business Journal, Los Angeles and San Francisco Daily Journal, Louisville Courier-Journal and the Las Vegas Sun. He has also been the co-editor of the California State Bar's Intellectual Property Law Journal, New Matter. Mr. Strauss has also been a consultant to the United States Secret Service and the United States Internal Revenue Service on intellectual property law related matters. He is admitted to practice in California and the District of Columbia . He is also admitted in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third, Ninth and Federal Circuits, and the U.S. District Court for the Central and Southern Districts of California. Mr. Runk joined the firm in 1989 and became a partner in 1995. Before that time, he was Associate Patent Counsel for the Ground Systems Group of Hughes Aircraft Company and was responsible for the protection of its radar technologies, spread spectrum communications technologies, display consoles, sonar and radar processor technologies, software products, and its computer products.

THOMAS H. MAJCHER received his B.E. in mechanical engineering, with an emphasis in machine design, from Stevens Institute of Technology in 1979 and his Juris Doctor from Southwestern University School of Law in Los Angeles in 1982. He concentrates his practice primarily in the prosecution of patents and trademarks and in litigation of patent, trademark, unfair competition and trade secret matters in both state and federal courts. Mr. Majcher joined the firm as an associate in 1988 and became a partner in 1995. Before joining the firm he was an associate with another Los Angeles patent law firm working primarily in litigation support on patent, trademark and unfair competition matters, including ongoing investigations of trademark and copyright counterfeiters, along with working on patent and trademark prosecution matters.
