Prior to immigrating to Canada in 1980, Mr. Sykes worked for the British Military and Government in the tactical surveillance & electronic intelligence field. During this time he was assigned to various operations within the UK and in the Middle and Far East. He was also tasked with liaison duties between American, Canadian, and British intelligence analyst groups. After arriving in Canada he worked as an industrial engineer in Alberta and then became involved with the private security industry as a manager for an international security firm specializing in airport security. For the past 23 years he has worked in private and corporate security in senior management positions and owned a security electronics surveillance and investigations company. Prior to his current employment, Mr. Sykes provided security expertise to the airline industry, telecommunications industry, and leading international airline ground handling companies, in areas such as labour dispute management, fraud/theft investigations and electronic surveillance. Mr. Sykes is a designated, nationally recognized Accredited Security Practitioner (ASP). He is a past director of the Policing of Cyberspace Society, and was granted life membership in the Canadian Society for Industrial Security for his work with the National board of directors in Ottawa. His articles have been published in National industry magazines, and he has lectured on both security and business courses at various venues and educational institutes throughout Canada. Mr. Sykes currently holds the position of Vice President and is responsible for business development of the physical security sector in British-Columbia, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
