Rich Battista is chief executive officer of Gemstar-TV Guide International, Inc., a leading media and technology company which develops, licenses, markets and distributes technologies, products and services targeted at the television guidance and home entertainment needs of consumers worldwide. Gemstar-TV Guide owns and markets the TV Guide brand, one of the most respected television brands in the world. Mr. Battista is a 15-year veteran of the media industry, with a unique mix of operating and corporate strategy experience across numerous segments of the business. Mr. Battista has conceived of, built and managed media-centric businesses both in the U.S. and abroad, including nine cable networks and a new media business venture. Prior to joining Gemstar-TV Guide in December 2004, Mr. Battista enjoyed a long career at News Corporation/Fox. Most recently, he served as executive vice president, Business Development & Strategy for the Fox Entertainment Group. In this role, he oversaw corporate business development and strategy across Fox's businesses, which include Fox Broadcasting Company, Fox Filmed Entertainment, Fox Cable Networks, Fox Sports, Twentieth Century Fox Television, Fox TV Studios and Fox International Channels. Mr. Battista worked closely with senior corporate management and with the senior executives of the operating units in evaluating and initiating business development opportunities, crafting and advising on strategy and creating new businesses and revenue streams. During his tenure, Mr. Battista served on the Board of Directors of both the National Geographic Channel - U.S. and National Geographic Channels International. From 1999-2001, Mr. Battista left Fox to become co-founder and CEO of iFUSE, a now-dissolved youth culture media company. iFUSE sourced, developed and distributed youth culture-oriented content through its innovative convergent media platform comprised of traditional and new media outlets, such as the internet, wireless devices, television and print publications. Before launching iFUSE, Mr. Battista spent nine years at the News Corporation/Fox organization. He held numerous and diverse operating roles in such areas as cable television, sports, television distribution, and production, with senior operating roles at such divisions as Fox Channels Group, Fox Sports International, 20th Television, FX Cable Network and Twentieth Century Fox Pay TV. Mr. Battista served on the Board of Directors of both Fox/Liberty Networks and Fox Family Worldwide. Prior to joining News Corp/Fox, Mr. Battista worked as a financial analyst at the investment banking firm of Morgan Stanley. He holds a Masters in Business Administration from Harvard Business School and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Georgetown University where he graduated cum laude. Mr. Battista is actively involved in several organizations outside the workplace. In the television arena, he serves on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Television Program Executives (NATPE). An active alumnus, he is a member of the Board of Governors of the Georgetown University Alumni Association, a 50-person elected board which represents the school's alumni body, and is the founder and chairman of the Georgetown Entertainment and Media Alliance, a 900-person nationwide alumni network of media professionals. In addition, he serves on the Board of Directors of the non-profit organization, Hands of Change, which supports at-risk young women in the U.S. and abroad. Battista resides in Brentwood, CA with his wife Brenda.
