Kendall J. Powell
Chief Executive Officer,
Chairman of the Board
Kendall J. Powell became chief executive officer of General Mills on Sept. 24, 2007, and chairman of the board on May 24, 2008.
Powell was previously elected president and chief operating officer of General Mills in June 2006. Prior to that, he was elected executive vice president and chief operating officer, U.S. Retail, in May 2005. Powell served as executive vice president of General Mills starting in August 2004, with responsibility for the company’s Meals, Pillsbury USA, Baking Products, and Bakeries & Foodservice businesses.
From September 1999 to August 2004, Powell was chief executive officer of Cereal Partners Worldwide (CPW), a General Mills/Nestlé joint venture with headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Powell joined General Mills in 1979 as a marketing assistant and advanced through a series of assignments of increasing responsibility including positions in the Yoplait, Betty Crocker and Big G cereal divisions, and CPW where he was marketing director from 1990 to 1996.
Powell was named marketing director for Cereal Partners UK based in the United Kingdom in 1990, then became vice president and marketing director of CPW. He returned to the United States in January 1996 to become president of Yoplait USA. Powell was named president of General Mills Big G division in October 1997 and appointed senior vice president of General Mills in May 1998.
Powell serves on the boards of General Mills and Medtronic and is a member of the Supervisory Board of CPW. His community service includes board memberships for the Twin Cities United Way and the Minnesota Historical Society.
Powell earned his bachelor’s degree in biology from Harvard in 1976 and an MBA from Stanford University in 1979.
Ann Simonds

Ann Simonds became president of the Baking Products Division in June of 2006.
Simonds joined General Mills in 1995, and has had been both marketing manager and marketing director of Big G and Yoplait. In 2001, she was promoted to vice president of marketing for Big G, and in 2005 was named vice president and general manager of Bakeries and Foodservice.
During her career at General Mills, she has stewarded leading brands such as Yoplait, Betty Crocker, Cheerios and Wheaties. Her teams have received two Chairman’s Awards and several Effie’s for outstanding advertising.
Her work has also involved in strategic philanthropy, driving profitable growth through programs such as the Cheerios Spoonfuls of Stories Literacy Program and the Circle of Healthy Hearts Women’s Heart Health initiative. She is a pioneer in Multicultural Marketing and has held leadership roles in the Women’s Forum helping General Mills achieve the Catalyst Award and Top Ten Companies for Working Mothers. She is currently serving as the Chairman of the 2006 United Way Campaign at General Mills.
A 1990 graduate of Harvard’s MBA program, she spent five years as a marketer for Johnson & Johnson in the U.S. and Europe.

As president of General Mills Canada, David Homer oversees one of the largest food companies in Canada. The company markets Big G cereals; Betty Crocker desserts, snacks and Helper dinner mixes; Pillsbury ready-to-bake goods; Old El Paso Mexican foods; and Green Giant vegetables and meal starters.
Before becoming president of General Mills Canada, Homer was managing director of Australasia where he was responsible for the company's operations in Australia and New Zealand including the manufacturing, distribution and sales of Old El Paso Mexican foods, Latina and Frescarini fresh pasta products, Betty Crocker dessert mixes and van den Bergh’s frozen dough products. While there, he led the acquisition of distribution rights for Patak’s Indian foods and Croissant King, a local producer of frozen dough products for institutional use.
Homer joined General Mills in 1987 as a financial analyst in the Corporate Growth and Development department where he worked on divestiture and acquisition activity before moving into marketing in 1989. Homer held a variety of marketing positions within General Mills, including marketing manager for Big G New Enterprises, where he was responsible for new cereal products, and was marketing director for the Flour and Baking Mixes business unit. In 2008, Homer became senior vice president, president, of General Mills Canada.
Homer earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City in 1985. In 1997, he received an MBA in finance from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business.
As president of EMEA and Latin American, Giuseppe A. D’Angelo oversees the Europe, Latin America and Africa regions.
D’Angelo joined General Mills in 1997 as director of International Sales and in 2000 was named managing director of General Mills Argentina. He was regional vice president of Europe in 2002 and became president of Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and Latin America in June 2006.
In 1988, D’Angelo earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Luiss University of Rome. He received certification from Harvard Business School in the advanced management program in 2004.
D’Angelo is also director of the Swiss America Chamber of Commerce, a 2,500-member, nonprofit organization that promotes business relations between the United States and Switzerland.

As President of General Mills Bakeries & Foodservice, Machuzick has responsibility for numerous business channels including Foodservice Distributors, Restaurant Accounts, Convenience Stores, Vending, Schools & Universities and Bakery Accounts.
Since Machuzick joined General Mills in 1978 as a retail sales representative, he has held various sales positions and was named Director of Strategic Planning for Consumer Foods Sales in 1991. He became Director, Customer Service in 1992. Machuzick was named Vice President, Trade and Promotion Marketing in the Big G Cereal division in 1994 and was appointed Vice President, Trade Marketing and Promotion for General Mills, Inc. in 1997. In 1999, Machuzick was named Sr. VP, Sales, Strategic Channels.
Concurrent with the GMI acquisition of the Pillsbury Company in 2001, Machuzick joined the General Mills Bakeries & Food Service Division as Sr. VP, General Manager, Convenient Food Solutions group. In this position, he was responsible for business segments including Top Quick Serve Restaurants, National & Regional Restaurant chains, Convenience Stores and Vending businesses. He was named Sr. VP, President, General Mills Bakeries & Foodservice in June 2003.
Machuzick earned a bachelor’s degree in food marketing from St. Joseph’s University in 1978, and an MBA from Pepperdine University in 1990.
He is a Board Member of the International Foodservice Manufacturers Association, Board Member of the Northern Star Council - Minnesota Boy Scouts of America, Board Member of St. Joseph’s University – Academy of Food Marketing, involved in the Greater Minneapolis United Way and enjoys coaching youth sports in the community.
Juliana Chugg became a senior vice president, and president of Pillsbury USA, in 2006.
Before that, she was a company vice president, and president of General Mills' Baking Products division She also spent five years as managing director of international operations in Australia.
In 1996, Chugg joined Pillsbury in Australia as marketing director, bringing nearly 10 years of marketing experience to the position. In Australia, she led the company's sizable international business unit to double-digit top-line and bottom-line.
Kim Nelson

Kim Nelson is the president of General Mills Snacks Unlimited Division, where she is responsible for the profitable growth of some of America’s favorite snack brands, including: Nature Valley Granola Bars, Betty Crocker Fruit Snacks, and Chex Mix. Her portfolio of businesses contributes $1.1 billion in reported net sales to General Mills. Kim has been a corporate officer of General Mills since 2000. Her 18 year career spans leadership roles on a variety of brands including Hamburger Helper, Old El Paso, Cheerios, Wheaties, Yoplait, Nature Valley, and Chex Mix. She received her MBA from Columbia University in 1988 and a B.S. in International Relations from Georgetown University in 1984.
Kim is an active member of the General Mills community and was a founding member of both the Black Champions Network and the Women in Marketing Network, organizations focused on enhancing the experiences of African Americans and women within General Mills. Kim is Chair of the Minneapolis YWCA board, and serves on the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Board. She is also a member of the Executive Leadership Council and the National Executive Women Network.
Maria Morgan was appointed president of General Mills' Foodservice in June 2007. Previously, Morgan led the company's organic division, Small Planet Foods.
Morgan began her career in Big G cereals with various marketing assignments on child, adult and all-family brands. She held marketing roles in Baking, Yoplait USA and Meals, prior to being promoted to marketing director in the Snacks division in 1996.
She returned to Big G in 1998 and was named a vice president of General Mills in 1999. She moved cross-functionally to Sales in 2002, where she led a sales region during the integration of Pillsbury.
Morgan graduated Phi Beta Kappa, magna cum laude from Wellesley College with a double major in history and political science. She obtained her MBA from Harvard University in 1990.
As president of U.S. Retail Sales, Shawn O’Grady has responsibility for the organization selling to all traditional grocery customers, including Kroger, Supervalu and Safeway
O’Grady joined General Mills in July 1990 as an assistant marketing manager. He has held a number of positions across the Snacks, Meals and Big G divisions. Most noteworthy was his work on Wheaties, which he led during the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. He was promoted to vice president in 1998, and concurrent with the General Mills acquisition of The Pillsbury Company in 2001, took the helm of the Refrigerated Baked Goods business.
Late in 2004, O’Grady joined General Mills’ Consumer Foods Sales division with responsibility for Supervalu and retail customers in the Midwest. He then added the Club and Discount, Drug and Dollar regions in 2006, accelerating growth in both.
Prior to joining General Mills, O’Grady graduated with honors from Notre Dame with a Bachelor’s of Science in chemical engineering. He worked two years as a chemical engineer for Air Products and Chemicals in Allentown, Pa., before attending Harvard Business School where he earned an MBA in 1990.
Christopher D. O'Leary was appointed executive vice president, chief operating officer international, of General Mills, as of June 1, 2006. Previously he was a senior vice president of General Mills since 1999. In addition, he was the president of the General Mills Meals division between 2001 and 2006 and was president of the Betty Crocker division between 1999 and 2001. Mr. O'Leary joined General Mills in 1997 after a 17-year career with PepsiCo, where his assignments included leadership roles for the Walkers-Smiths business in the United Kingdom and the Hostess Frito-Lay business in Canada.

Daralyn Peifer leads the company’s Treasury function and oversees the investment of General Mills’ retirement assets and corporate venture program.
Over the past 20 years, Peifer has successfully managed the company’s pension and savings plan assets with return performance in the top 2 percent the last 10 years. She brings a wealth of capital markets experience, including managing through a range of credit market conditions. Her investment expertise provides a unique perspective in the areas of financing plans, capital structure and corporate investment opportunities.
Peifer joined General Mills in 1988 in the Benefit Finance organization as manager, Investment Finance. She was later promoted to Chief Investment Officer in 2001 and vice president, Investment Finance in 2002.
Prior to joining General Mills, Peifer was employed by the Minnesota State Board of Investment, where she was instrumental in building the private equity, energy and fixed income programs, participated in the U.S. equity and real estate programs, and ran the performance evaluation and manager monitoring systems.
Peifer holds M.B.A. and M.A. degrees from the University of Minnesota and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul, Minn.
Peifer is a chartered financial analyst and a member of a number of investment organizations, including the Twin Cities Society of Security Analysts. She currently serves on the board of Matador Resources Company and is a volunteer member of the Investment Advisory Committee of the Minnesota State Board of Investment.

Ian Friendly has corporate oversight of Big G, Yoplait, Meals, Pillsbury U.S., Snacks and the Baking Products Division.
Previously as president and CEO of Cereal Partners Worldwide (CPW) - General Mills’ joint venture with Nestlé – he was responsible for a billion-dollar-plus global cereal business which distributes to over 130 countries outside of North America.
Ian Friendly brings to his current executive position extensive experience in the cereal business both internationally and domestically where he once served as president of the Big G cereal division. This division is home to General Mills’ large U.S. cereal business, which has a portfolio of consumer favorites that include Cheerios, Lucky Charms and Wheaties. From 1994 to 1998, he served as vice president of CPW, where he led expansion throughout Asia, Latin America and the Middle East.
Friendly was named president of Yoplait-Colombo in 1998. In the four years under his leadership, the yogurt business achieved extraordinary growth, and Yoplait became the No. 1 selling yogurt in the United States.
Friendly began his career in 1983 as a marketing assistant with General Mills Canada. A year later, he moved to the U.S. cereal business.
Over the next decade, Friendly held progressively broader marketing assignments in the Big G and Betty Crocker divisions. Friendly was elected a senior vice president in 2000.
He serves as an advisory board member of the Queen’s University School of Business in Kingston, Ontario, and as a Board Member of Artspace Projects, Inc. in Minneapolis.
Friendly received his bachelor’s degree in commerce from Queen’s University in 1983.

As senior vice president, chief marketing officer, Mark Addicks has overall responsibility for the company’s world-class marketing function and its marketing services organization, Gcom.
In his role, Addicks has oversight responsibilities for the company’s global brand-building strategy, including its advertising, promotions, public relations, design, packaging, online, licensing and multicultural initiatives. He also oversees some of the industry’s most recognized equity platforms, including Box Tops for Education and the Pillsbury Bake-Off contest. Since joining General Mills in 1988, Addicks has held marketing positions with the Yoplait USA and Big G cereal divisions. As vice president of Big G New Enterprises, he led highly successful new product development efforts, including Frosted Cheerios.
Addicks was named vice president of Marketing Communications in Jan. 2000, and led the successful integration of the General Mills and Pillsbury marketing functions in 2001. He was named chief marketing officer in Jan. 2004, and was promoted to his current position in June 2007.
Before joining General Mills, he led marketing communication programs for Anderson, Clayton & Company, a diversified foods company based in Houston. During the same period, he started and managed three entrepreneurial businesses in Houston.
Addick’s work has been widely recognized with numerous industry awards, both for his innovation and marketing expertise. Advertising Age named him one of the top 100 marketers in 1999, and one of the top 25 Power Brokers in both 2003 and 2004. In addition, he has been invited to guest lecture at some of the nation’s leading business programs, including Harvard, Tuck and the University of Chicago.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in government from the University of Texas in 1978 and an MBA from Harvard University in 1988.

Rick Palmore has overall responsibility for the company's global legal activities, corporate ethics and compliance, and corporate security. He is chair of the company’s Enterprise Risk Management Committee.
Rick joined General Mills in 2008. In his previous position at Sara Lee, he served as executive vice president and general counsel. He had joined Sara Lee in 1996 as deputy general counsel. Rick was promoted to senior vice president, general counsel, and secretary in 1999, and was named an executive vice president in 2004.
Rick has made a broad impact on the legal profession through his leadership of “Call To Action,” an initiative he helped to launch with his peers to improve minority representation and mobility within law firms that provide services to major corporations.
Earlier in his career, Rick was a partner with two major Chicago law firms, where he focused on business litigation. He joined Wildman, Harrold, Allen, and Dixon in 1983 as an associate and was elected a partner in 1986. He subsequently moved to Sonnenschein, Nath, and Rosenthal as a partner in 1993.
Previous to that, Rick spent three years as assistant U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Illinois.
Rick earned his undergraduate degree in economics from Yale University and his law degree from the University of Chicago. He is currently on the boards of both the Chicago Board Options Exchange and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

Donal Leo Mulligan

Donal Mulligan was named executive vice president and chief financial officer of General Mills in August 2007.
Mulligan joined General Mills from the Pillsbury Company in 2001. He served as vice president, Financial Operations for the International division until 2004, when he was named vice president, Financial Operations for Operations and Technology. He was appointed vice president and treasurer in January 2006, and was elected senior vice president, Financial Operations earlier this year. Mulligan joined Pillsbury in 1998 following 11 years with PepsiCo, Inc. and YUM! Brands, Inc., where he held various international finance positions.
Mulligan holds a MBA from the University of Michigan and a BA from Duke University. He is on the board of Twin Cities Catholic Charities and serves on the University of Michigan’s Ross Business School Corporate Advisory Board.
Jeffrey J. Rotsch

As executive vice president, Jeff Rotsch leads the function responsible for all retail sales of General Mills consumer foods products worldwide, and is responsible for worldwide Channel Development, including oversight of the company’s Bakeries & Foodservice business.
He was named to his current position and elected executive vice president of General Mills in May 2005.
Since joining General Mills in 1974, Rotsch has held various marketing positions throughout the company, ranging from product manager in the Betty Crocker division to president of the Betty Crocker and Big G divisions. He was named to president of Consumer Foods Sales in 1997, and was elected a senior vice president of General Mills in 1993.
Rotsch holds a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering and a master's degree in business administration from the University of Wisconsin. He was a member of the University of Wisconsin hockey team from 1968 through 1972 and was team captain and made the All American Team his senior year. The following two years, he was an assistant coach of the Wisconsin team, which won the NCAA championship in 1973. He was also a member of the 1972, 1974, and 1975 U.S. National Hockey Teams. Rotsch serves on the board for the University of Wisconsin School of Business, CASB Board of Directors and the “W” Club Board. In the past, he has served on the Family and Children’s Services plus Minnesota Public Radio. In November of 2004, he received the Distinguish Business Alumni Award from the University of Wisconsin.
Michael A. Peel has served as a member of the Select Comfort Board of Directors since February 2003. In October 2008, Mr. Peel was appointed as the Vice President for Human Resources and Administration of Yale University. From 1991 to 2008, Mr. Peel served as Senior Vice President, Human Resources and Corporate Services of General Mills, Inc., a manufacturer and marketer of packaged consumer foods, since 1991. As senior vice president, External Relations, and president of General Mills Community Action and the General Mills Foundation, Christina L. Shea oversees and coordinates the company’s relationships with key external constituencies, including policy makers, industry associations, and the media.
She oversees Corporate Communications, Government Relations and General Mills’ Community Action initiatives, including the General Mills Foundation’s $20.2 million (2006) awarded to education, social service, youth nutrition and fitness, arts and cultural programs and organizations around the country. Her responsibilities include corporate contributions, strategic philanthropy, food donations, direct social investments and employee volunteerism.
Under Shea, General Mills’ total corporate philanthropy exceeded $74 million in 2006.
Shea was named president of General Mills Community Action and the General Mills Foundation in June 2002, and to her current position in May 2005.
Shea comes to General Mills’ community programs with more than 25 years of marketing and general management experience. She began her General Mills career in 1977 as a marketing assistant, and her career has included leadership positions in the Big G cereal, Yoplait/Colombo, Gold Medal, Snacks and Betty Crocker divisions.
She led the Betty Crocker division as president from 1994 to 1999, before assuming leadership of the New Ventures division, where she led a multidisciplinary team dedicated to identifying and executing strategies that capitalize on growth opportunities. Shea was elected a senior vice president of General Mills in 1998.
Shea serves on the board of Amos Tuck School of Business, as well as in various community leadership roles, including the Conference Board Contributions Council, which focuses on corporate charitable giving and on the board of Minnesota Women’s Economic Roundtable. Past leadership assignments include the Minnesota Keystone Advisory Committee, the Walker Art Center Board, the Minneapolis Children’s Theatre Board, Success by Six, Interfaith Outreach Community Partners and the Minnesota Citizens League.

He also serves on the board and is vice chairman of the Employee Benefits Research Institute. Richard (Rick) Lund was appointed vice president, controller and principal accounting officer of General Mills in December 2007 and is responsible for the company’s planning and analysis, external and internal financial reporting, accounting policy and systems, and internal controls.
Lund joined General Mills in 1981 as assistant director of accounting and analysis. He was named director of administration, systems and control for the restaurants and nonfood group in 1982 and held various division controllerships from 1983 through 1987. In November 1987, Lund was named chief financial officer of Gorton's Seafoods, a position he held until May 1993, when he was appointed director of financial operations, Gold Medal division. He was appointed vice president in 1994 and named vice president, financial operations for the Betty Crocker division in 1998. In April 2000, Lund was appointed vice president, corporate financial operations, which he held until his appointment as controller.
Lund graduated from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, in 1972, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in accounting and economics. Lund joined Coopers & Lybrand (now PricewaterhouseCoopers) in Minneapolis. Between 1972 and 1981, Lund held various positions, including four years as audit manager, in the firm’s Minneapolis and Brussels, Belgium, offices. In addition, Lund was a member of the Minnesota Army National Guard from 1972 to 1981.
Lund is a member of the board of trustees of the Science Museum of Minnesota, was a member of the Courage Center board of directors from 1996 through 2006, and served as chair of the Courage Center board from 2002 to 2004. He is a member of Financial Executives International, the Controllers’ Leadership Roundtable of the Corporate Executive Board, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Minnesota Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Mr. Hall brings 30 years experience consulting with global 1000 and market leading multi-national companies in the consumer product goods, retail and food & beverage segments. Mr. Hall is the Platform Development Practice Leader and manages execution excellence in growth strategy development for the firm. His experience has been in developing significant growth platforms outside the core business, new channel growth strategy, consumer segmentation, retail experience consulting and global brand strategy development. Mr. Hall's background and executive experience brings objectivity to implementing market strategy. Prior to joining The Valen Group, Mr. Hall was a Senior Manager in Cap Gemini Ernst & Young's Global Business Unit of the Consumer Products, Retail and Distribution practice in Chicago. Mr. Hall is a seasoned executive, having held positions as President for Apriori Consulting Advertising, consulting with advertising agencies and clients searching for new ad agencies; as Senior Vice President New Business Development for J. Walter Thompson working with Miller, Oscar Mayer and Kraft; and as Vice President for Leo Burnett Advertising. He has experience consulting for companies such as Kelloggs, Best Buy, Ahold, General Mills, PepsiCo/Tropicana and Kraft. He holds a BA and an MBA from the University of Illinois, Urbana.
Mr. Redding has 18 years of experience in controlled release products. With seven issued and six pending patents, he has been involved in the development of more than twelve commercial products including products using ultrasound. In 1988 he co-founded Encapsulation Systems Inc. After licensing technology to DuPont in 1991, he joined M-Cap technologies (a DuPont/ConAgra joint venture) as executive Vice President, where he designed and built two production plants and three laboratories, producing products, which had nearly $25 MM in contract sales prior to his departure in 1994. Mr. Redding has extensive experience in technology transfer, having negotiated license or R&D agreements with such firms as Church & Dwight, Ottens Flavors, GNC, Sandoz, Nabisco, and General Mills. Mr. Redding received his B.S. degree in Engineering Technology from Temple University has written several articles on microencapsulation in trade publications and scientific journals and has attended a number of management seminars with the American Management Association. In the past he worked as Materials Engineer for Insulated Technologies Corp., Chief Engineer of Insulated Technologies Corp., Executive Vice President/Technology Director of M-CAP Technologies Intl. (A DuPont/ConAgra Joint venture), and Acting CEO for Delta Food Group.

Jeff Harmening was appointed president of General Mills’ Big G cereal division in June 2007. Previously, Harmening served as vice president of marketing for Cereal Partners Worldwide (CPW), a General Mills/Nestlé joint venture with headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland. In this role, Harmening led CPW’s marketing strategy and activity in markets around the world.
Prior to his role with CPW, Harmening led Big G New Enterprises, where he successfully launched Berry Burst Cheerios.
Harmening began his career at General Mills in 1994. Since that time, he has served in various marketing roles in the Betty Crocker, Yoplait USA and Big G divisions. Harmening was promoted to marketing director in 2000, and held marketing director leadership roles in Big G New Enterprises and Foodservice New Business. He was promoted to vice president of the company while at CPW in 2004.
Harmening graduated from DePauw University in 1989 and earned an MBA from Harvard University in 1994.

John Church is the senior vice president of Supply Chain and has responsibility for worldwide sourcing, product logistics, manufacturing and global engineering. He assumed this position in 2008.
Church joined General Mills in 1988 as a product developer in the Big G cereal division. He led several new product initiatives including the development and commercialization of Multigrain Cheerios in 1991. Church returned to Minneapolis in 2001 as director of Operations, Integration where he led the successful integration of the manufacturing and logistics networks of The Pillsbury Company and General Mills. He was named vice president, Engineering in 2003.
Church holds a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from the University of Wisconsin. He represents General Mills as a board member for Cereal Partners Worldwide, a joint venture with Nestle, S.A. He is also a board member of the Courage Center in Golden Valley, Minn., a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancement of individuals with disabilities.
Judy Miao is the Executive Director & CEO of The Arc of Somerset County that serves persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Judy's career spans both for-profits and non-profits, including Campbell Soup, General Mills, SC Johnson Wax, Methodist Hospital of Indiana and consulting firms specializing in continuous process improvement. Judy is a Certified 6-Sigma Green Belt, TQM Trainer, and received her MBA in Marketing and International Business from The University of Michigan, BA cum laude in Business Administration from Mount Union College and AA from Cottey College, where she first took part in Model United Nations in Kansas City, MO.
