David McAleavey is the Director of the Creative Writing Program in the English Department at George Washington University, where he teaches creative writing and American and English literature, especially poetry. He's had four books of poems published, a chapbook (David McAleavey: Greatest Hits 1971-2000, Pudding House Publications, 2001), and his newest book, Huge Haiku, is forthcoming from Chax Press.

Jonathan P. Deason, Ph.D., P.E., is a Senior Advisor to Dawson & Associates. As Director of the Office of Environmental Policy and Compliance at the Department of the Interior (1989-1994), Dr. Deason oversaw the environmental compliance programs of the Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Land Management, Minerals Management Service, Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement, and six other bureaus. He also served in five other senior executive and management positions during a 28 year federal career. After leaving the federal government in 1994, Dr. Deason served for two years as Vice President for Environmental and Educational Affairs at the American Road and Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) in Washington, D.C. ARTBA is a federation of 4,000 transportation planning and design, construction, and materials and services companies, universities and public agencies. At ARTBA, Dr. Deason worked extensively with federal agency and congressional personnel on environmental compliance issues. Since 1996, he has been Professor and Director of the Environmental and Energy Management Program at the George Washington University. He also has served a 30 year career as a reserve Army Corps of Engineers officer, the last six years of which he held the position of Chief of Staff (Reserve) at the Corps. Dr. Deason holds a Ph.D. degree in environmental systems engineering from the University of Virginia, an MS degree in environmental engineering from the Johns Hopkins University, an MBA degree from Golden Gate University and a BS degree from the U.S. Military Academy. He is the recipient of the Founder's Medal of the National Society of Professional Engineers for being honored as the 1992 Federal Engineer of the Year. He also received a 1993 Meritorious Executive Award from the President of the United States, the 1993 Engineering Achievement Award of the Virginia Engineering Foundation, and the 1984 Arthur S. Fleming Award. He has served on the national boards of directors of the American Water Resources Association and the Renewable Natural Resources Foundation, and is a past President of the American Society of Civil Engineers, National Capital Section. He is a licensed professional engineer and has authored more than 60 publications.

ANITA L. AUERBACH, PH.D., Director, was formerly Chief of Psychological Services at the Northern Virginia Training Center. She is a Diplomate of the International Academy of Behavioral Medicine and the American Board of Medical Psychotherapists. Dr. Auerbach has served as an instructor at several area universities and is presently Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychology at George Washington University. She has been a consultant to various community agencies, mental health clinics, hospitals, courts, school systems, group medical practices, corporations, and area sports teams. She has lectured extensively, appeared on national television, and has assisted the media in the development of television programs and articles on mental health topics. Dr. Auerbach is a member of the American Psychological Association, the Virginia Psychological Association, the Virginia Academy of Clinical Psychologists (where she serves on the Executive Council), the Association for the Advancement of Applied Sports Psychology, and the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis, and is also part of the Red Cross Disaster Response Network.

Having spent the first 15 years of her career as a nurse, Langford joined the administrative team of the Johns Hopkins Geriatrics Center in 1989. She currently oversees all programs of the Geriatrics Center and PACE (Program of All Inclusive Care for the Elderly) program. In addition, she works to develop new housing and community outreach programs and services for our community. Langford is also an adjunct faculty member of George Washington University.

Anna is the founder and coordinator of Girls Kick It!, GYPA's sports education and empowerment program for young women in northern Uganda. She is a student at the George Washington University pursuing a degree in Peace Studies. She recently returned from six months in Uganda, and is currently studying at Haifa University in Israel and interning for a human trafficking prevention organization.

Dr. Anthony Bruno received his medical degree from the College of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Bruno served his internship at the General Surgery Glendale Community Hospital in Glendale, CA. He also served as the chief of emergency medicine at General Surgery Harbor General Hospital/University of California at Los Angeles Torrance, CA. Dr. Bruno served his cardiovascular surgical fellowship United States Public Health Service NIH/National Heart Institute, University of Rome, Italy. He also served a fellowship in cardiovascular surgery for the University of Southern California, Los Angeles County Hospital. Dr. Bruno did a post-doctoral fellowship in oncological surgery at the University of Los Angeles California City of Hope Medical Center, Duarte, CA. Dr. Bruno is a member of the St. Louis Society. He was also member of the United States Public Health Service Associate Bureau holding the position of a director, in the Bureau of Community Health. Dr. Bruno is an assistant clinical professor at George Washington University. In addition to English, he is fluent in Spanish, Italian, French, and speaks some Russian.

Dr. Babur Lateef is a Board Certified ophthalmologist who specializes in laser vision correction, cataract surgery, diabetes, glaucoma, and comprehensive eye care. Over the past six years, Dr. Lateef has performed over 8,000 refractive procedures, including LASIK, PRK, and LASEK. Dr. Lateef's level of experience and commitment to patient care place him amongst some of the most highly respected and most sought after surgeons in the country. Dr. Lateef graduated from Northeastern Ohio University College of Medicine, completed residency at the University of Rochester, Strong Memorial Hospital, and completed an internship at Western Reserve Healthcare. Dr. Lateef is an Assistant Clinical Professor at George Washington University.

Betsy Bowers is an adjunct Professor at George Washington University, a museum consultant, and a lead teacher and mentor for LLF programs. Before joining LLF's team, Betsy served as a teacher and administrator at the Smithsonian Early Enrichment Center. An editor of Maryland's Association for the Education of Young Children, she frequently teaches LLF strategies through DC's Office of Early Childhood Development. Betsy holds a degree in early childhood education and a masters degree museum education.

In August Associate Betsy Siegmund came to live at the convent, helping out in the day-to-day operation of the house and generally being a "Mom" to all the Sisters. Betsy is a retired administrator of the George Washington University Medical Center and a parishioner of St. Paul's, K Street.

Brian Gray is a professional Firefighter with the District of Columbia Fire Department and has been an active member of the fire service since 1993. He serves his community as a Captain with the Hyattsville Volunteer Fire Department (HVFD) where he has received several commendations for his service. The most notable being named Firefighter of The Year and the HVFD Presidents award for his achievement and dedication to the department. He is currently on the department's training committee and serves as an instructor for all major drills for department members. Brian has worked for the Congressional Fire Services Caucus (CFSI) on Capitol Hill, a non profit non-partisan caucus that works to educate congress on the fire service. CFSI Acts as a source for accurate and objective information on fire service issues. He has also served as Content Editor for Firehouse.com, a nationally renowned website that provides comprehensive news, training and information to fire service members. Brian has a Bachelor of Science degree in Fire Science and a minor in Criminology from the University of Maryland University College. He also received an Associate in Applied Science degree from Onondaga Community College specializing in Fire Science. In addition he has also received Nationally Accredited Fire Service Instructor Certification and teaches in several capacities regarding the emergency services. Along with this professional certification, he has worked as a support instructor for the Maryland Fire and Rescue Services and also on the Logistical Support Staff. He also serves as an instructor for George Washington University in their Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program.

Carolyn A. Brown, PhD is an Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership and Policy at George Washington University. Dr. Brown consults on institutional management and finance, and on curriculum development for elementary, secondary and tertiary education in the U.S. and abroad. She has been a teacher educator for California State University and the University of California, Los Angeles where she received her PhD in Education. Her research has included a study of U.S. urban school management and finance with the Anderson School of Management at UCLA and an evaluation study of Special Education for the State of California. Dr. Brown has consulted for the World Bank in Jamaica and was a visiting professor at the University of Skopje, Macedonia where she worked to help implement the Bologna protocols. She has been a teacher and administrator in both public and private elementary and secondary school. She has managed public, non-profit institutions and private businesses. Her current research interests are U.S and global educational finance policy and the development of leaders for public institutions. Dr. Brown brings an integrated and entrepreneurial approach to her work with public and educational institutions.

Charles E. Parks, Ph.D. is a Teaching Analyst and Child Supervisor at the Baltimore Washington Institute for Psychoanalysis where he is also Chair of the Child and Adolescent Training Committee and Director of the Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy Training Program. In addition, Dr. Parks is Associate Professorial Lecturer in Professional Psychology at The George Washington University. For ten years, he was Associate Professor of Clinical Psychology at the George Washington University and Director of the Center Clinic, the university's community mental health training clinic. Dr. Parks also serves on the Certification Committee of the American Psychoanalytic Association and is a member of the Executive Council of the Association for Child Psychoanalysis.

Forensic examiner Christopher Morales was an International Police Technical Advisor for the U.S. Department of Justice International Criminal Investigative Training Assistance Program (ICITAP) and a Special Agent and examiner of questioned documents for the U.S Secret Service. He has planned, developed, and equipped complete forensic laboratories in Latin America and Caribbean ad is a court qualified forensic science expert. In addition, he is a Faculty Advisor and Adjunct Faculty Member of the Forensic Science Department at George Washington University. He holds a Dual Masters Degrees in Forensic Science and Security Management, GWU. Mr. Morales currently owns Morales Forensic Investigation, a private forensic services and investigative company. The company provides services in all areas of questioned documents, including handwriting and hand printing examination, typewriting, stamp impressions, photocopies, writing instruments, ink, paper, detection of erasures, alterations, erased and obliterated text and paper. The company also conducts fingerprint examinations, crime scene work, and other forensic science disciplines. Mr. Morales is a member of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences, the International Association for Identification and the International Homicide Investigators Association.

Costis Toregas has been a Director of the Company since March 1988. He is currently a Researcher and Adjunct faculty member of the George Washington University in Washington DC, as well as the President Emeritus of Public Technology Institute, a public interest corporation, where he has held various positions since 1971.

Cynthia was affiliated with a Washington DC law firm for eight years where she was primarily responsible for advising clients regarding securities offerings, reporting requirements and other issues under the federal securities laws and state "Blue Sky" laws. She has been involved in numerous public and private securities offerings, and has advised clients in connection with a wide variety of corporate transactions including mergers and acquisitions, exchange and rights offerings and reorganizations. In addition, she has advised clients in regard to a variety of securities matters including short swing profit rules, Exchange Act reporting requirements and general disclosure issues as well as various corporate governance issues. Through her work in the securities area, she has come to represent a number of emerging internet-based operating companies. Cynthia's work in that area includes all aspects of business formation, operations, joint ventures and regulatory compliance. She has also advised clients in connection with the establishment and operation of private and public venture funds, including small business investment companies (SBICs) and business development companies (BDCs). Cynthia is currently an Adjunct Professor at George Washington University teaching a course in Takeovers and Tender Offers. Cynthia has also been responsible for the presentation of several securities seminars. Cynthia is currently a Managing Editor of M&A Lawyer.

Dan Hanfling, MD is the Director of Emergency Management and Disaster Medicine for the Inova Health System in Falls Church, Virginia. He is also the State Medical Director for PHI Air Medical Group Virginia, the largest private rotor-wing air medevac service in the Commonwealth of Virginia. He serves as a Medical Team Manager for Virginia Task Force One, a FEMA and USAID sanctioned international urban search and rescue team, and has been involved in the response to international and domestic disaster events, including the response to the Pentagon in September 2001 and the response to Hurricanes Rita and Katrina in 2005. Dr. Hanfling was intricately involved in the response to the anthrax bioterror mailings in the Fall of 2001, when two cases of inhalational anthrax were successfully diagnosed at Inova Fairfax Hospital. Dr. Hanfling was the founder and co-chairman of the Northern Virginia Emergency Response Coalition, and founder of the Northern Virginia Hospital Alliance. He has been appointed to the Virginia Secure Initiative Health and Medical Subpanel, the Virginia Department of Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Advisory Committee, and the Virginia Health and Hospitals Association Hospital Emergency Management Committee. He has testified before Congress on the issues of disaster preparedness. He lectures nationally and internationally on pre-hospital, hospital and disaster related subjects, and has co-authored numerous peer-reviewed articles on the subject of healthcare facility disaster preparedness. Dr. Hanfling received an A.B. in Political Science from Duke University and a Medical Degree from Brown University. He completed an internship in Internal Medicine at The Miriam Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island, and an Emergency Medicine Residency at George Washington/Georgetown University Hospitals. He is Assistant Clinical Professor of Emergency Medicine at George Washington University, and adjunct Distinguished Senior Fellow at the George Mason University School of Public Policy.

Organist-Choir Director Daniel Ryan has served as a church musician for over twenty-five years, first as a boy chorister at St. Pius V Roman Catholic church in Lynn, Mass., then as organist and choir director at many churches in Massachusetts, including First Parish, Malden and St. James Church, Arlington. He has served as an assisting organist at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul, Boston . Mr. Ryan received his musical education at Boston University as a cello major. He studied organ with Joseph Policelli and is the recipient of the Colleague and Associate certificates from the American Guild of Organists. He is co-Artistic Director of Musicians of the Old Post Road, an award-winning period instrument ensemble, and has recorded for Meridian , Koch, and WGBH.

Dr. Campbell received his Dr.Phil. in Political Science from the University of Vienna in 1996. He teaches at George Washington University and at the University of Vienna, and is also a Research Fellow at the University of Klagenfurt, IFF Faculty, Austria. His research interests focus on: (1) research of knowledge, such as research (R&D) and research policy (research evaluation), science and technology (S&T) and S&T policy, innovation and innovation policy, and the knowledge-based economy and society; (2) research of democracies, such as political dynamics and trends of advanced democracy, political swings and the quality of democracy in international comparison, and the supranational integration of the EU. A founding member of counter)induction, composer Douglas Boyce writes chamber music that bridges the medieval and the modern, the visceral and the cerebral. Praising his Quintet "l'homme arme", Allan Kozinn in The New York Times, wrote "he couches [the medieval melody] in such thoroughly modern scoring that the ear is lured to other things, including the juxtaposition of eerie string writing with playful material for the clarinet and piano, or the lively interplay among all five instruments." Mr. Boyce was born in New York City in 1970. After performing with various punk rock bands in the greater New York metropolitan area, he attended Williams College, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Physics and Music, with honors, in 1992. He holds an MM from the University of Oregon, and a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania, where, in 1999, he was awarded the Weiss Prize in Composition for Trois Complaintes. He has attended the Master-Class in Composition at the Aspen Festival, the Czech-American Summer Music Institute in Prague, and the Oregon Bach Festival Composers Symposium. During the summers of 2000 and 2002, he was a resident fellow at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. He has studied with George Crumb, James Primosch, Kathryn Alexander, Robert Kyr, Judith Weir, Ladislav Kubik and Robert Suderburg. His works have been performed in Philadelphia, New York, Aspen, Frankfurt and Prague. His work Palimpsest: A Composition of Maps, commissioned by Concert Artists' Guild for violinist Asmira Woodward-Page, was recently premiered at Carnegie Hall's Well Hall in New York. His work Song of Rain and Wind for violin, cello, piano, mezzo-soprano, tenor, and baritone was commissioned by the Benjamin T. Rome School of Music of Catholic University as part of the Songs of the Forgotten War project, which commissioned nineteen different composers honoring the 50th anniversary of the Korean War. The score of his La Guerra de la Driada, commissioned by the George Washington University for tenor Robert Baker, will be published in the Society of Composers, Inc. Journal of Music Scores, and his work Quintet "l'homme arme" was a winner in the 2005 League of Composers/ISCM Composers Competition. Recently, his work 102nd & Amsterdam for string trio won the 2005 Salvatore Martirano Memorial Composition Award. Mr. Boyce remains active as a scholar of medieval music, an improviser, and conductor. Current projects include A Book of Songs, for tenor Robert Baker, Etudes for clarinet, cello and piano for the Contemporary Music Forum, and Forks of Buffalo, a work for guitar and percussion, commissioned by the Irving Lippel Project. He currently serves as Assistant Professor of Music at the George Washington University in Washington, DC.

A third generation Washingtonian, Dr. Elliott attended the Holton-Arms School and graduated from Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School. She completed undergraduate studies at Bucknell University. She earned M.S. (Biochemistry) and M.D. degrees at George Washington University, where she was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Honor Society and valedictorian of the medical school class of 1976. Leaving the East Coast, Dr. Elliott completed her internship and residency at the University of Oregon (UOHSC). During training she did basic research in immunologic aspects of atopic eczema and in the effects of retinoids on skin disease. She won awards from The Society for Investigative Dermatology and won the UOHSC Alumni Award for these studies. She is board certified by the American Academy of Dermatology. Dr. Elliott began clinical practice in Marin County, California while continuing to participate actively in research on retinoid chemistry at the University of California-San Francisco as a clinical instructor in dermatology. Growing tired of sunshine and good weather, Dr. Elliott returned to Washington D.C. in 1990 and has been in practice in the city and in McLean, Virginia since then. Dr. Elliott is on the staff of Sibley Hospital and is an assistant clinical professor of dermatology at George Washington University. She is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha, the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Society of Laser Medicine, and the American Medical Association. She has been named to the "Top Physicians of America" list of the Consumers Research Council and to the list of "Top Doctors" in Washingtonian magazine. Her areas of special interest include skin cancer surgery, immunologic treatments of dermatologic disease, and adolescent medicine.

Elaine P. English is an attorney and literary agent in Washington, D.C. As an attorney, for more than twenty years, she has focused her practice on literary, media and entertainment law, with a special emphasis on publishing. She regularly advises authors on matters involving contracts, copyright, trademark, libel, privacy and other issues relating to the publishing business. Her clients also include some small publishing companies, including several electronic publishers, photographers, and television and video production companies. She serves as general counsel to the Washington Romance Writers and Hatchet Publications, Inc., the student newspaper at The George Washington University. Elsa Barnett is a member of the Grant Committee of Cutting Edge Foundation. She is married to Thomas E. Barnett, Chairman of the Grant Committee. Elsa graduated from Eastwood High School, Syracuse, New York in 19 and then received a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology from George Washington University, Washington, D.C. in 1967. Her work experience has been as a medical technologist in the George Washington University Hospital, St. Bernadine's Hospital, San Bernardino, California and South Laguna Hospital, Laguna Beach, California. She has also been employed in Dr. Barnett's office as a bookkeeper. Her church activities have been with the First United Methodist Church of Lodi, California as Education Chairperson; she was also involved with Vacation Bible School leadership for several years and children's Sunday School teacher for many years; she was on the Mission Commission as well and helped organize and develop many mission trips. She presently attends Calvary Bible Church of Lodi where she has sung in the choir and teaches in the 3 4 year old class. Her Christian Mission experience has been on short term mission trips: Tijuana, Mexico working on a pastor's home. She was very involved at the Methodist church on "Mission Outreach" helping with renovation of many small Methodist churches in Northern California. At Calvary Bible Church she has been on a construction team in Glennalen, Alaska remodeling a home for missionaries and in Guatemala City, Guatemala, construction a small church and working with a Vacation Bible School.

Mr. Sterling was Counsel to the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on the Judiciary from 1979 until 1989. On the staff of the Subcommittee on Crime, (Rep. William J. Hughes (D-NJ), Chairman), he was responsible for drug enforcement, gun control, money laundering, organized crime, pornography, terrorism, corrections, and military assistance to law enforcement, among many issues. He was a principal aide in developing the Comprehensive Crime Control Act of 1984, the Anti-Drug Abuse Acts of 1986 and 1988, and other laws. Frank Chang, MD is a board certified reproductive endocrinologist and founder of the former Mid-Atlantic Fertility Centers. He is a native of Washington, D.C. and completed his medical training at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas after graduating from Stanford University. His post-graduate training included a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Ohio State University and a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology, also at Ohio State. He began clinical practice in Bethesda, MD in 1985. Dr. Chang is a Clinical Associate Professor of Reproductive Endocrinology at George Washington University.

Frank Kavanaugh, Ph.D. (President) is president of Kavanaugh Associates, and Vice President of the Airlie Foundation. Dr. Issa earned his medical degree from Aleppo University, Syria and trained in Psychiatry at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio where he served as Chief Resident, then as a junior faculty. Afterwards he was awarded a fellowship in Clinical Psychopharmacology at the National Institute of Mental Health, Washington, DC, where he spent over five years conducting clinical and basic research. Dr. Issa is a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at George Washington University; Medical Director, Psychiatric and Addiction Services at Virginia Hospital Center Arlington; and Medical Director, Arlington Hospital Psychiatric Group. He is Board Certified in Psychiatry, is a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association (FAPA), and a member of Society of Biological Psychiatry, American Society of Clinical Psychopharmacology, and American Medical Association. Ghassan N. Atiyeh, MD. F.A.A.P. . Ghassan Atiyeh received his medical degree from The George Washington University. He underwent training in Pediatrics and served as Associate Chief Resident at Children's National Medical Center in Washington, DC. He is board certified and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. In his capacity as Assistant Clinical Professor at The George Washington University and the University of Virginia, he enjoys training medical students and pediatric residents. Professor Ginsburg, former full-time Law Professor and Director of the Government Contracts Program at the George Washington University and former partner in a national law firm, now is in private practice in Washington, D.C. He has over 40 years experience in litigating bid protests, claims, and wage and hour cases; and advising clients and teaching students in the areas of Government contracts, A-76 and outsourcing, small and small disadvantaged business, commercial and construction claims, cost and pricing issues, termination claims, contract liability and damages issues and wage and hour problems. Professor Ginsburg is also an Adjunct Professor of Law and a Visiting Lecturer in Government Contracts at the George Washington University. Professor Ginsburg is Co-Director of the A-76 Institute, which twice a year holds institutes on A-76, privatization and outsourcing in Washington, D.C. and a West Coast location, in partnership with NASA's Office of Small and Small Disadvantaged Business Utilization and the U.S. Department of Defense. Glenn D. Mickelson, CFP is the president of Professional Financial Solutions, LLC. He completed the College for Financial Planning's CFP (Certified Financial Planner) Professional Education Program in 1996 and became a CFP licensee in 1997. Mr. Mickelson received a bachelor's degree in accounting and finance from Central Washington University in 1985. Prior to his academic career, Dr. Beazley served in a variety of financial and strategic planning positions in the American oil industry. Heidi Hartmann is the President of the Washington-based Institute for Women's Policy Research, a scientific research organization that she founded in 1987 to meet the need for women-centered, policy-oriented research. Dr. Hartmann is also a Research Professor at The George Washington University.

As a founding co-director of the Mid-Atlantic Teacher Institute and a reading teacher, Holly has the opportunity to observe educational theories turn into best practices on a daily basis. Her six years as a Norwood parent and three as a faculty member have allowed her to experience firsthand the passion and dedication the entire faculty and staff bring to the Norwood School community. Her current research interests include exploring models of school organization that develop teacher leaders and attracting and supporting new educators through improved induction and mentoring programs.

Dr. Harrison received her bachelor's degree from Harvard University (cum laude, Social Studies) and obtained her master's and doctorate degrees in Political Science from Columbia University, including a Certificate from the Harriman Institute. She taught at Brandeis University and Lafayette College where she was an assistant professor. Professor Harrison has held research fellowships at the American Academy in Berlin, the Council on Foreign Relations, the Norwegian Nobel Institute, the Kennan Institute for Advanced Russian Studies of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, the Davis Center at Harvard University, and the Free University of Berlin. Dr. Harrison's current book project examines how Germans are dealing with the East German communist past. Her work focuses on recent debates about different approaches to depicting the Berlin Wall and other remnants of the division and the former communist regime.

Ines Azar has an educational background in Language, Classics, and Linguistics that she received from the University of Buenos Aires and Johns Hopkins University. Over the past 30 years she has published a book and several articles on language and literature. Dr. Jay Fitch is internationally recognized for his leadership as a consultant, educator and innovator in the fields of EMS and public safety. His body of work, spanning nearly 30 years, includes the development and implementation of original operational and strategic solutions for both individual EMS organizations as well as the broader systems in which they operate. Dr. Fitch's knowledge of the industry and his expertise in organizational development is built on real-world experience. He was among the first paramedics trained in the U.S. and was named EMS Director in St. Louis at the age of 24. He was responsible for the operational implementation of the public utility model EMS system in Kansas City and served as president of a large private ambulance service. Since creating Fitch & Associates, he has personally led numerous, complex projects reflecting the entire public safety spectrum, with results that have transformed emergency care for those communities. From these varied experiences, Dr. Fitch learned to value the many perspectives from patient to emergency provider to public official that go into creating an exemplary EMS program. Jessica Luke has a background in art museum education and research, and specializes in the areas of youth development and family-school-community partnerships. Since joining the Institute in 1997, she has directed evaluation and research projects with dozens of museums and cultural organizations, including the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.; Walters Art Museum , Baltimore ; Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum , Boston ; Walker Art Center , Minneapolis ; Cincinnati Art Museum , Cincinnati ; and The Children's Museum of Indianapolis , Indianapolis . Recent publications include articles in Curator and Art Education, as well as a chapter soon to be published in the Anthology of Art Museum Education. In addition, Jessica is affiliated with two local universities. As an adjunct instructor in the Museum Studies Department at The George Washington University, she teaches a graduate course on museum evaluation. As a Ph.D. student in Educational Psychology at the University of Maryland , College Park , Jessica teaches an undergraduate course on child development and societal institutions.

Jonathan is a graduate Research Assistant at Adfero Group. He is responsible for client outreach, including new members-elect, as well as non-Congressional clients. He also does work with social networking and viral campaign implementation. Before Adfero, Jonathan worked on a number of campaigns, including the Small Business Outreach team for Bush-Cheney '04 and GOTV for Michael Steele in Maryland in 2006. Jonathan graduated from the University of Michigan with a B.A. in Political Science and Near Eastern Studies, with a concentration in Hebrew and Jewish Cultural Studies. He is currently a student at The George Washington University where he is pursuing his M.A. in Political Management, with a concentration in Corporate Public Affairs. Josh is a senior pre-medical student at The George Washington University, majoring in biology and minoring in political science. After 2 years as Event Coordinator, he has taken the reins for 2008. In addition to preparing for B4C, he spends his time at GW researching hookworms in the GW Medical Center and working as a scribe in the GW Emergency Room. Julia Gaspar-Bates, M.A., is a certified cross-cultural trainer and consultant who works with individuals and groups from the U.S. and abroad to facilitate the challenges of working and communicating across cultures. Julia brings a wealth of personal, professional, and educational experience to her work. With over 15 years experience working in international business and educational environments Julia has held positions for a variety of companies and organizations such as Michelin, UNESCO, the American Embassy of Paris, and the Center for Global Education. Her varied background includes intercultural negotiations and contracting, international market research, export sales, product development, translating and interpreting. She currently designs and delivers customized programs and seminars for executives, entrepreneurs, and educators from around the world. Julia is also able to share her insights and expertise from a personal perspective. A bi-cultural British-American, she was born in London and grew up in the United States. With an undergraduate degree in the Romance Languages, Julia is fluent in French, Spanish, and Italian and is able to incorporate a deep understanding of the complexities of communicating across linguistic barriers into her work. She lived and worked in Paris, France for seven years, as well as in Mexico, Italy, and Switzerland and has traveled to more than 40 countries in both a personal and professional context. Juliet Moser hails from Medfield, Massachusetts, from a public school with a strong music program. She abandoned the violin in fifth grade after 6 years of torturing those around her and moved into wind instruments the following year. Juliet has played a wide range of instruments (B flat clarinet, tenor and baritone saxophone, and flute) in a large collection of settings, including orchestras, concert bands, and jazz ensembles. Juliet is currently a student at the George Washington University, studying international affairs and political science.

Kenneth A. Gross is a partner in the Washington office of the law firm of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher and Flom, with expertise in campaign law compliance, lobby registration provisions, and securities laws regulating political activity and municipal securities transactions. He counsels corporations and political candidates at the state and federal level. He is a member of the American Bar Association's Standing Committee on Election Law and chaired the Election Law Committee for the Federal Bar Association. Mr. Gross was associate general counsel of the Federal Election Commission from 1980-1986.

Kent has worked internationally in a variety of executive, operations, technology and business renewal roles in the energy and engineering industries. Laura Blythe is a doctoral student at George Washington University in the School of Education and Human Development. After earning her B.A. in English and M.A. in Education from Stanford University, she taught high school Literature and ESL for five years. She co-authored an article on high school ESL programs and directed an ESL program for three years before earning her National Board for Professional Teaching Certificate in English. She has taught English to English teachers in China and hopes to continue studying Chinese and French while researching learning strategies for less-commonly spoken languages at the National Capital Language Resource Center.

Rabbi Leila Gal Berner received ordination from the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College and a doctorate in medieval Jewish Studies from UCLA. She received her Bachelor's Degree from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where she lived for ten years. A citizen of both Israel and the United States, Rabbi Berner is also a licensed Israel Government Tourist Guide. For two decades Rabbi Berner has combined rabbinical and academic work, and has taught at Swarthmore and Bryn Mawr Colleges, the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College and Emory University. She currently teaches at the George Washington University and American University. She has served Reconstructionist congregations in Maryland, Pennsylvania and Georgia and an unaffiliated congregation in Washington DC. Rabbi Berner was the founding director of the Center for Jewish Ethics and has taught and written extensively on a values-based approach to Jewish ethics A nationally known creator of new Jewish liturgy, she is also a commentator in the Kol Haneshamah prayer book series published by the Reconstructionist Press. Rabbi Berner has also authored many articles on Jewish feminism, Jewish spirituality, new Jewish life cycle rituals, and innovative approaches to Jewish family and community. Rabbi Berner came to learn about Reconstructionism in her late 20's and has been a dedicated and passionate advocate for a Reconstructinist approach to Judaism. In a recently published article Rabbi Berner commented, "I find that Reconstructionism is an approach that allows me to embrace Judaism intellectually, spiritually and emotionally. Its theology speaks powerfully to me, as does its approach to Jewish peoplehood, history and issues of social justice." Most recently, Rabbi Berner has been trained as a Jewish Spiritual Director at the Lev Shomea (Hearing Heart) program sponsored by Aleph: The Alliance for Jewish Renewal. She now works actively as a spiritual director to individuals and groups and is working with a colleague on creating and developing Lev Tahor: A Center for Jewish Spirituality and Learning in the Washington DC area. Rabbi Berner lives in Kensington, Maryland with her life-partner, Franna Ruddell, and their daughter, Kayla Moriya Gal.

The newest board member, Ms. Marcano has spent years working at Unity Healthcare, Inc.; the largest community health organization in Washington, D.C., where she provides direct HIV/AIDS and substance abuse services to underserved populations. Building on working in public health for 7 years combating stigma and discrimination against HIV/AIDS and LGBT issues, Ms. Marcano is a full-time student at George Washington University, where she is receiving her Masters in Global Public Health-Health Promotion.

King is Washington Representative for the Sustainable Profitability Group, a consulting, investment, and research firm focused on emerging opportunities in alternative and distributed energy technology. Since 2002, he has also served as Research Director of the Sustainable Energy Institute (SEI). At SEI he works with large corporate energy producers and consumers to promote dialogue on clean energy policies and technologies. Prior to SEI, King was Senior Manager for Energy and Security Programs at Numark Associates, a DC-based energy and environmental consulting firm where he represented and prepared reports for corporate clients engaged in power generation, climate change and waste clean-up related activities. Previously, King worked directly for the Deputy Under Secretary for Environmental Security at the Department of Defense. With an annual budget of over $5 Billion, the Deputy Under Secretary was DoD's Chief Environmental Officer responsible for all environmental programs including waste clean up. Prior to DoD, Mr. King served as research assistant to the Deputy Secretary and Under Secretary of the Department of Energy. These officials maintained oversight of all issues relating to the national laboratories and the nuclear weapons complex, including environmental and radioactive waste management. King received a B.S. in Foreign Service from Georgetown University and an M.A. in Law and Diplomacy from The Fletcher School at Tufts University with concentrations in International Environmental Policy and National Security Studies. He is currently writing his Fletcher Ph.D. dissertation on the national security implications of climate change and holds a position as an adjunct faculty member at The George Washington University. Dr. Jerome has practiced obstetrics and gynecology in Washington, D.C. since 1982. Upon completion of her residency at George Washington University Hospital she joined Foxhall OB/GYN Associates. Dr. Jerome is a Clinical Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at George Washington University and has enjoyed teaching medical students, residents and physician assistants throughout her career. Dr. Jerome was born in Cleveland, Ohio and received her undergraduate degree from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. She received her medical degree from the University of Cincinnati and moved to Washington, D.C for her residency training. For the first seventeen years of her practice, Dr. Jerome managed and delivered thousands of obstetrical patients. Her practice in the last eight years has focused on gynecology, and she is especially interested in the hormonal changes that women experience throughout the various phases of their lives. Dr Jerome is married and has two sons. She is involved in two organizations as a board member. The Children of God Relief Fund is an organization that funds three programs in Kenya for HIV infected orphans. The Jesuit Refugee Service administers and advocates for refugees around the world. In her free time, Dr. Jerome enjoys travel, gardening and cooking.

Mark Hannum has been teaching in the District of Columbia Public Schools for nine years. He has taught all levels of high school mathematics, as well as physics, chemistry and biology. His teaching style is grounded in experiential learning that attempts to engage students in activities that encourage intuitive mathematic and scientific skills. He also works with his students every year to compete in the FIRST robotics competition that requires students to design, build and compete with a 120-pound robot in six weeks. Mark has earned a Bachelor of Arts in Physics, a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics, and a Master's of Science in Applied and Engineering Physics. Mary Anne Saunders is the Associate Professor of Human Services and Sociology at The George Washington University. She received her Ed.D. in Human Development in 1991 from The George Washington University. Her research interests include: developing leadership in the non-profit sector; the role of the third sector (NGO's, PVO's, non-profits) in human rights conflict resolution and social gerontology. Saunders sabbatical research in Zagreb, Croatia, investigated two interest areas, the role of the third sector in transition countries, especially in central Europe and the development of leadership skills in the executive sector in transition countries. The second of these interest areas has evolved into a longer-term training project of the governmental, corporate as well as the non-profit sectors in Croatia and has been endorsed by a number of ministries and large private firms. Saunders was recently elected Chair of the Board of Directors of the Meridian International Institute for Cooperation and Development of countries in transition in Zagreb, Croatia and has been selected as an advisor to Dr. Dragan Primorac, Minister of Science, Education and Sports of the Republic of Croatia.

Rabbi Max Ticktin is the Associate Director of Judaic Studies and Assistant Professor of Hebrew Language and Literature at George Washington University. His interests include the study of stem cell transplantation for immunodeficiencies and other non-malignant pediatric diseases and immune reconstitution following hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.

Patricia Griffith is the author of four novels, the latest Supporting the Sky, was a Literary Guild selection. Her third novel, The World around Midnight, was named one of the best books of the year by the American Library Association. She has had four plays produced and her short stories have twice been included in the O. Henry Prize Stories. She is a co-chairman of the PEN/Faulkner Foundation and an associate professor at The George Washington University.

Paul Curcio has written and produced advertising for candidates in every region of the country at every level from president to mayor. His campaigns include Governor Matt Blunt (MO) and U.S. Senators Bill Frist (TN), Don Nickles (OK), Gordon Smith (OR), Pete Domenici (NM), and John McCain (AZ). In the U.S. House, Paul has produced advertising for Cathy McMorris (WA), Ander Crenshaw (FL), Ron Lewis (KY) and John Kline (MN). He also wrote and produced advertising for mayors John Peyton of Jacksonville and Bob Corker of Chattanooga. Paul began his political career at the National Republican Senatorial Committee in 1984 as the Director of Advertising Services. He served as the NRSC's Political Director in the 1992 and 1994 election cycles, during which the Republicans captured the Senate majority with a gain of eight seats and reversed a decade-long decline in seats. Paul began his career in advertising in 1977 working for the advertising firm of Benton & Bowles in New York, working on such accounts as Crest, Scope, Zest, Pepto-Bismol, Planters Nuts, Emery Air Freight and Old Bushmills. Paul is an adjunct instructor at the George Washington University. He holds a BA in Political Science from Stanford University and an MBA in marketing from the UCLA Anderson School of Management.

Paul M. Maniscalco is an assistant professor at The George Washington University, a past president of the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT), chairman of the NAEMT National EMS Administrators Division, and a former Deputy Chief/Paramedic for the City of New York. Chief Maniscalco has over 30 years of public safety response, supervisory, and management experience. Chief Maniscalco has lectured extensively and has published widely in academic and professional journals on EMS, fire service, public safety, and national security issues. He is an appointee to the President's Homeland Security Advisory Council Senior Advisory Committee for Emergency Services, Law Enforcement, and Public Health and Hospitals. He is also a member of the Department of Defense, Defense Science Board (DSB), Transnational Threat Study and the Defense Science Board Homeland Defense Chemical Weapons Task Forces, a member of the DoD/DoJ Interagency Board (IAB), an advisor to the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency ECOMPASS project, a member of the board of advisors for the Oklahoma City Memorial Institute for the Prevention of Terrorism, and an appointee to the Centers for Strategic and International Studies' Homeland Security Task Force. Paul M. Maniscalco also holds an appointment to the United States Congressionally mandated National Panel to Assess Domestic Preparedness (Gilmore Commission) and to the Harvard University, John F. Kennedy School of Government and U.S. Department of Justice Executive Session on Domestic Preparedness.

Rebecca Ray is working toward her M.A. in International Development Studies, with a concentration in Economic Development Policy, at the Elliott School for International Affairs at the George Washington University. Her academic fieldwork has included consulting for the Partnership for Food Industry Development in Nicaragua and the Institute for Sustainability Education and Action in Salt Spring Island, Canada.

Rick Ducey is co-creator and President of SpectraRep . He also serves as Executive Vice President of BIA Financial Network (BIAfn), the parent company affiliate of SpectraRep . BIAfn, formed in 1983, is an established expert in strategic and financial advisory services, including merger and acquisition assistance, business plan review and development, fund placement, expert valuations, data management and research. SpectraRep specializes in wireless broadband datacasting solutions via satellite and digital television (DTV-IPcastTM). Prior to joining BIAfn and SpectraRep , Ducey was a top executive at the National Association of Broadcasters for 17 years. He was Senior Vice President of NAB's Research and Information Group. In this position, he was in charge of the association's new technology assessment, audience and policy research, strategic planning, and information systems, including all Internet operations. He also developed publications and seminars. He has served on the faculties of several major universities teaching and conducting research in new media technologies, strategic marketing, research methodology and statistics. Before joining NAB in 1983, Ducey was a faculty member in the Department of Telecommunication at Michigan State University where he taught and did research in the areas of emerging telecommunication technologies and strategic market research. He also served on the faculties of the George Washington University Graduate Program in Telecommunications Management and the University of Maryland, where he taught strategic market management and research methodologies. He has published a number of research articles and papers in these areas and serves on editorial boards of leading scholarly journals in the communications field. He worked at radio stations WSOQ-AM/WEZG-FM and Upstate Cablevision in North Syracuse, NY. Ducey received his Ph.D. from Michigan State University, M.S. from Syracuse University and B.A. from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

Rob McCracken is the Head Coach at George Washington University. Rob competed for Duke University, playing an integral part in the program's success. He helped form the foundation at Indiana University and has been actively involved in rowing for over 12 years.

Robert Sharpe is the Medical Director for Esoterix Oncology in San Diego, California. Concurrently, Dr. Sharpe serves as a staff hematopathologist at the Scripps Clinic in San Diego. He holds board certification in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and Hematopathology. He came to Esoterix from the Naval Hospital/Medical Center where he was a staff hematopathologist. Presently, Dr. Sharpe is the Associate Clinical Professor of Pathology at the University of California, San Diego. In addition, Dr. Sharpe is an Adjunct Professor of Pathology at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. Dr. Sharpe earned his M.D. from Hahnemann Medical College in Philadelphia. He subsequently did his residency in pathology and fellowship in hematopathology at the Naval Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland.

Robert Work is an Adjunct Professor at George Washington University, where he teaches defense analysis and roles and missions of the armed forces.

Sarah Johnston, research coordinator, received her degree in psychology from George Washington University. Her previous experience includes working as a research assistant at GWU on a study of adolescent parenting.

Times, New York Times Upfront Magazine, Roll Call, Newsday, and the Washington Post. Spencer graduated with honors from both Hampton University and Harvard Law School. Spencer is married to Leslie Overton and the couple have two young children, Sterling and Langston.
