Founded in 1995 and headquartered in Eden Prairie, MN, Golf Galaxy, Inc. is the operator of more than 60 golf specialty stores throughout some 25 US states. Its retail centers offer golf equipment, gifts, accessories, shoes, apparel, books and videos. On-site technicians do everything in their power to help one's golf score, from providing full-sized putting greens to computer video swing analysis. It employs about 1,460 people and it had 2006 revenue of $200.1 million. In March 2006, the company completed the acquisition of The GolfWorks, one of the golf industry's most complete sources for golf club components, clubmaking tools and supplies, and technical information.

Mr. Gellman co-founded FdG in 1995. Previously, Mr. Gellman was a Managing Director at AEA Investors Inc., an established New York-based leveraged buyout firm, where, in addition to his investment activities, he served as Chief Executive Officer or Chief Financial Officer of several portfolio companies. Prior to his seven years with AEA Investors Inc. and four years with the Trump Group's private equity division, Mr. Gellman began his business career in acquisition finance at Bankers Trust Company, where he was a member of the New York leveraged finance group.
