By day, Michael L. Carter goes to work in the Duncan Technology Center. For over 27 years, Mike has worked in chemical research with Halliburton. His work has been in the area of Hydraulic fracturing fluid systems. This sometimes takes him into field locations doing quality control (QC) work for fluids as they are being pumped down the well. Mike holds a US Patent, a commercialization award, a Technical Excellence Award for work done in the area of encapsulation, and an MVP award for work in fluids technology. Carter, a native of Marlow, Oklahoma had a tough decision trying to determine his career path in life. In highschool, Michael won the Outstanding Senior art student award and had a chance at a full art scholarship. He also received a VFW award for Outstanding Science Student. Mike is a 1975 graduate of Southwestern Oklahoma State University holding a B.S. in Natural Science. After many years working in the Science field, Mike says, "I love working In the Lab and it's challenges in the field of science, but it is not my passion. I have found my passion in my music in the past few years." In the fall of 2001, Michael was nominated and inducted into the International Who's Who Society for Professionals. The nomination came because of technical accomplishments, scientifific papers, and patents in the area of Chemistry with Halliburton Company. "My inductance into this society was also due to my work in music and formation of the M & K Music. The president of Sony records, Columbia Records, and MCA records are also inducted members. I was told that my membership would give me access to these guys to assist me in furthering my music if I so chose to contact them. They have private emails addresses, etc. only accessable to other members of this society, I was told." By evening and weekends, Michael puts on another hat. That hat is owner and president of M & K Music, his and his wife, Kathy's music production company. This was formed to help produce and publish Mike's music and his concerts. Mike and his family often have averaged several thousand miles a year doing the concerts, which have taken him into several states. The songwriting began seriously as a sophmore in college at Southwestern Oklahoma State University. In 1986, Michael began to copyright his material through the Copyright Office of the Library of Congress. He now holds a number of copyrights on his music. A collection of these can be found in his CD and cassette release, Finished Vessel, which is available at Hasting's Video. This CD contains 10 songs that Michael wrote. He co-produced the album, does all the vocals, and the guitar work on the album. Carter used his computer graphics and personal interest in art to design the CD cover and inside layout for the jacket and cassette J-Card. He is a professional member of ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers), past member of the GMA (Gospel Music Association), and M & K Music are new publishers with CCLI (Christian Copyright Licensing International). His music is catalogued and licensed in over 100,00 churches in 5 countries which include: United Kingdom, USA, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Through CCLI, M & K Music can now be found on the Internet. The address is www.ccli.com. Churches or individuals interested in Mike's music can access it via a new SongSelect Online capability. If the churches are not online, they can still find M & K Music listed in the biannual catalog. Mike has received royalty checks through CCLI as a result of usage of his copyrighted, licensed songs. Future plans are in progress for M & K Music. They have hired a webmaster to make their new webpage available July 15, 2002. This will allow people globaly to download wave files of present music and new music that Michael is working on, order the lyric sheets, soundtracks, scored music, etc. Mike has hired 3 current empoyees to follow inventory on the new webpage and handle mail orders. Michael uses this...
