Mel Lisiten began his career in the fashion industry as a design and marketing entrepreneur with a business and art background. He soon built several fashion companies and sold them in 1978. One was the brand "Ocean Pacific". During this time, he also began investing in real estate as a hobby. After a short while, his real estate venture "Instahouse" grew to become a multi-million dollar sized company engaged in the business of purchasing, renovating, furnishing, and renting homes in both California and Colorado. Mel sold "Instahouse" Corp. in 1980. He then began consulting, for the next 10 years, to major companies in the fashion business that had brand names with global recognition. Among them Levi-Strauss, J.C.Penney, Marubeni Corp.-Japan, Lego-Sweden, The Gap, Banana Republic, Bloomingdales and others.
