United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC) is a leading global semiconductor foundry that provides advanced technology and manufacturing services for applications spanning every major sector of the IC industry. UMC's customer-driven foundry solutions allow chip designers to leverage the strength of the company's leading-edge processes, which include production proven 65nm, 45/40nm, mixed signal/RFCMOS, and a wide range of specialty technologies. Production is supported through 10 wafer manufacturing facilities that include two advanced 300mm fabs; Fab 12A in Taiwan and Singapore-based Fab 12i are both in volume production for a variety of customer products. The company employs approximately 12,000 people worldwide and has offices in Taiwan, Japan, Singapore, Europe, and the United States.

Peter Courture is UMC's Senior Vice President, Strategy and General Counsel, with responsibility for alliances, joint ventures and Intellectual Property and Legal Affairs. Mr. Courture joined UMC in 1983 as legal counsel, served as General Counsel since 1993 and as Chief Strategic Officer since 2000. He was elected to the board in May 2001 and served until February 2004. Mr. Courture earned his bachelor's degree (Phi Beta Kappa) in Economics from Yale College in 1976 and a J.D. degree (Order of the Coif) from Stanford Law School in 1979. Prior to joining UMC, Mr. Courture was a partner in the Silicon Valley law firm Wilson Sonsini Goodrich and Rosati representing semiconductor and other high technology companies. Mr. Courture also serves as a court appointed neutral for the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, as a Judge Pro Tempore for the Santa Clara County Superior Court and as a teacher at Stanford Law School.

Po Wen Yen currently serves as UMC's senior vice president responsible for 12-inch operations. Mr. Yen joined UMC in 1986 and was responsible for the operation of fabs 8AB and 8C.
