J. Blair Miller earned his Bachelors Degree in Biological Sciences from Michigan State University and his Juris Doctor from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law. While attending law school, Mr. Miller followed a specialized Intellectual Property Law track with studies in patents, copyrights, trademark law, trade secrecy, and unfair competition. During his law school career, he began working as a Law Clerk at Harness Dickey, assisting in research and prosecution of patent applications. Mr. Miller is admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and his current practice includes preparing and prosecuting patents of various technical disciplines, trademark prosecution, and researching various legal aspects of intellectual property litigation. Mr. Miller is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, Michigan Intellectual Property Law Association, American Bar Association, and an affiliate member of the American Trial Lawyers Association. Currently, Mr. Miller is seeking his Masters Degree in Biomedical Engineering.

Matthew L. Cutler's practice includes all varieties of intellectual property contested matters, as well as counseling emerging businesses up to multi-national companies with regard to their worldwide intellectual property portfolios. His specialties include patent, trademark, copyright and trade secret litigation, freedom-to-operate opinions (non-infringement and/or patent invalidity), trademark oppositions, and due diligence relating to intellectual property acquisitions. Mr. Cutler also specializes in counseling emerging companies and established businesses regarding their contested intellectual property matters throughout the world.

Mr. Utykanski is admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, the U.S. District Courts for both the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan and the District of Colorado and the Courts of the State of Michigan.

David R. Haarz received his Bachelor's Degree from Oakland University with honors and a Juris Doctor Degree from the University of Michigan. Before practicing intellectual property law, Mr. Haarz practiced business and commercial law with a small law firm in Detroit, Michigan. Mr. Haarz has practiced in the areas of trademark and unfair competition for over twenty-five years. During that time he has represented and counseled a variety of clients in developing and protecting their trademark portfolios. He was Trademark Counsel at Borden, Inc. where he was responsible for maintaining a world-wide portfolio consisting of over 6,000 registrations. Prior to joining Harness Dickey, he was a member in a general practice firm where he prosecuted, enforced and maintained the domestic and international trademarks for companies of various sizes. Mr. Haarz has had considerable experience handling Internet domain name trademark disputes and has more than ten reported decisions under the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Procedure. He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and is admitted to practice in the State of Ohio and the District of Columbia. Mr. Haarz has testified before Congressional subcommittees regarding pending trademark and patent legislation and is a frequent speaker at continuing educational seminars in the field of trademark practice.

Matthew L. Cutler's practice includes providing counseling and management relating to the intellectual property portfolios of a wide variety of clients. Additionally, Mr. Cutler devotes a significant amount of time to intellectual property litigation (having taken several cases to a jury trial) and litigation avoidance (including rendering of freedom to operate opinions). Mr. Cutler also has considerable experience counseling clients relating to trade secret issues; providing services relating to transactional issues, including licensing; and providing training programs for employees of clients. Mr. Cutler has a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame and a J.D. degree from the Washington University School of Law. His engineering experience includes process engineering and production supervision for a major consumer products company prior to obtaining his law degree.

Anthony G. Fussner received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, magna cum laude, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering, magna cum laude, from the University of Missouri - Rolla. He received a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Missouri and was inducted into the Order of the Coif National Honor Society. He was a member of the Missouri Law Review, publishing a Comment ("Bad Faith Insurance Litigation in Missouri").

Edwin W. Bacon, Jr. holds a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from Oakland University and a Juris Doctor degree from Wayne State University Law School. At Oakland University, Mr. Bacon was a member of the Eta Kappa Nu Electrical Engineering Honor Society and served as the President of the University's Student Chapter of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). Upon receiving his Bachelor Degree in 1992, he began a career with DaimlerChrysler Corporation as an engineer and worked in a number of diverse disciplines, including engine control software, analog and digital electronics design and manufacturing, and engineering leadership. Prior to working with DaimlerChrysler Corporation, he also worked for six years as a research technician in General Motors Research Labs and in Eaton Corporation's Research Laboratory. Mr. Bacon earned his Juris Doctor degree in the evening while working with DaimlerChrysler Corporation. In 2001, he began working with DaimlerChrysler Intellectual Capital Corporation where he primarily prepared and prosecuted patent applications for DaimlerChrysler Corporation and the Research and Technology division of DaimlerChrysler AG. He also investigated issues relating to patent validity and patent infringement, drafted agreements, and assisted in performing due diligence associated with the divestiture of a large manufacturing subsidiary. Mr. Bacon joined Harness Dickey in 2004, and he specializes in patent application preparation and prosecution in electrical, electronic, electro-mechanical, and mechanical technologies. Ed is admitted to practice in Michigan and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Prior to earning her Juris Doctor degree from Wayne State University, Ms. Brock graduated from the University of Michigan, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Language and Literature. Ms. Brock is admitted to practice to the Bar of the State of Michigan, and is a member of the International Trademark Law Association (INTA) and the Michigan Intellectual Property Law Association (MIPLA).

Erica K. Schaefer received her Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering with honors from Kettering University (formerly G.M.I. Engineering and Management Institute) and her Juris Doctor from Wayne State University Law School. Prior to joining Harness Dickey, Ms. Schaefer was employed at Delphi Automotive Systems as a Product Co-op Engineer, specializing in vehicle steering systems and crashworthiness. She also worked as a research assistant in the Mechanical Engineering Department at Kettering University, with her work directed mostly to internal combustion engines. While attending law school, Ms. Schaefer has worked as a law clerk at Harness Dickey, assisting in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications in various technical arts.

Ms. Hoffman received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Chemistry from Wake Forest University in 2001, where she focused on inorganic chemistry, participating in a research fellowship on organometallic ligand chemistry. She also was a Poteat Scholar, a honorary scholarship for excellence in academics and community service. After graduating from Wake Forest University, Ms. Hoffman worked as a chemist for Alpharma, a generic pharmaceutical company, and Coca-Cola. Ms. Hoffman graduated from University of Richmond School of Law in 2005. Ms. Hoffman is a member of the Virginia State Bar, the District of Columbia Bar and is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Ms. Hoffman is also a member of the American Bar Association and the American Intellectual Property Law Association.

Geoff has worked as a legislative assistant for a member of Canada's Parliament, and has been a Trademark Examining Attorney for the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Geoff's background also includes two years as in-house trademark counsel for a Fortune 500 consumer packaged goods company. Geoff became a Principal in 2007 and is admitted to practice before the Courts for the States of Michigan, Virginia and Colorado. Geoff's practice focuses on trademark clearance and prosecution; opposition and cancellation proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board; drafting intellectual property agreements; and counseling clients in the enforcement of various intellectual property rights.

Mr. Stobbs received his law degree from the Ohio State University in 1976 and a B.S.E.E summa cum laude from Ohio State in 1973. He is a principal of Harness Dickey specializing in computer law, computer hardware and software patents and litigation. His prior experience before joining Harness Dickey included work as a patent attorney for Sperry Corporation (Univac Computer), and as a prosecuting attorney in Ohio where he obtained extensive first chair civil and criminal jury trial experience. Mr. Stobbs is author of a leading patent law treatise, Software Patents published by John Wiley & Sons. The book contains an in depth treatment of computer software technology to assist the patent attorney. It explains how software patent protection can be obtained in the United States and throughout the world, and describes how the software patent can be integrated with copyright protection. Software patents of several major corporations, such as Microsoft and IBM, are analyzed, and special software technology problems of the future are explored. Mr. Stobbs also writes a monthly column, Software Practice News, for The Law Works, a nationally distributed magazine for the intellectual property attorney. Mr. Stobbs is an experienced computer user with extensive knowledge of IBM microcomputer system architecture and operation. He has programmed computers in a number of different languages, e.g. C, C+ +, Fortran, Pascal, Basic, Forth and Assembler and is conversant in today's object oriented programming techniques, networking and Windows programming.

G. Gregory Schivley brings a broad spectrum of expertise to the firm. With over twenty-five years of experience in intellectual property law, Mr. Schivley has been involved in numerous areas of the practice including litigation, obtaining patents and trademarks, and client counseling. He began his career in 1972 with General Motors and entered private practice after also serving on the patent staffs of UNISYS (Burroughs) and Xerox Corporations. Mr. Schivley received his Electrical Engineering Degree with honors from Ohio University and a Juris Doctor Degree from Wayne State University Law School, cum laude. A large portion of his practice includes work in high technology areas, international IP matters, licensing, due diligence investigations and in the trademark arena. Mr. Schivley has authored several papers and is a frequent guest lecturer, having spoken to the European Patent Office and the American Intellectual Property Law Association. Greg is also a Certified Panelist for the National Patent Board, a AAA arbitrator and is a past President of the Michigan Intellectual Property Law Association.

Mr. Miller received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan, and his Juris Doctor Degree from the University of Detroit School of Law. Mr. Miller has over 35 years of experience in all areas of intellectual property, with a substantial portion of his practice involving the preparation and prosecution of patent and trademark applications (with emphasis on PCT protocol), the conveyance (sale, assignment and licensing) of technology and related intellectual properties, i.e., patents, trademarks, technical know-how, and trade secrets, throughout the world. Mr. Miller also has extensive strategic planning and valuation experience pertaining to all types of intellectual properties involved in corporate merger, acquisition and joint venture transactions.

J. Timothy (Tim) Keane is an Intellectual Property Law attorney having over 30 years of experience with emphasis on patent application preparation & prosecution, patent & trademark appellate work, due-diligence assessments, licensing & opinions. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Keane held attorney and IP Management positions at General Electric, Syntex Labs, PPG and spent 22 years with Monsanto-Searle-Pharmacia-Pfizer lineage of companies. Mr. Keane's patent prosecution experience is in mechanical, electro-mechanical, chemical, bio-chemical, pharmaceutical & bio-pharmaceutical fields, including development & issuance of over 500 U.S. patents in polymers, catalysts, super-conducting materials, electrostatic spray devices, dental instruments, ethical drugs & medical-treatment inventions. Mr. Keane has presented more than two dozen successful appellate briefs & oral arguments before the U.S. Patent Office & Court of Appeals Federal Circuit, including a trademark registration-cancellation appeal (Ilco v. Ideal Security, 188 USPQ 485) and often-cited case of In re Grabiak (226 USPQ 870) as to prima facie obviousness of oxygen-sulphur interchange in organic molecules.

Justin H. Purcell received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Oakland University and received his law degree from Wayne State University. Mr. Purcell's practice includes preparing and prosecuting patent applications in the electrical, computer, software, business method, electromechanical, and mechanical fields including various aspects of the satellite and aerospace industry, communications industry, automotive industry, and semiconductor industry. Mr. Siminski received a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Detroit and a Juris Doctor Degree from the Detroit College of Law. Prior to entering the practice of intellectual property law, Mr. Siminski was an analytical chemist in the oil/natural gas industry. During that time, he conducted analysis on soil and water for environmental contamination, directed tests on fuel recovery and designed an incineration fuel recovery system. In addition to litigation support, intellectual property portfolio analysis, valuation and opinion work, his current legal practice is concentrated in obtaining, enforcing and licensing patents, trademarks and copyrights for clients in various fields, including primarily the chemical and mechanical areas. Among the hundreds of patents obtained for various clients, Mr. Siminski has drafted and prosecuted chemical patents relating to adhesives, coatings, conductive materials, films, foams, nanotechnology, pharmaceuticals and small molecules. Jason M. Benedict received his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan in 2005 with a focus in digital circuits and micro electro-mechanical systems (MEMS). At the University of Michigan, Mr. Benedict's studies included the design and fabrication of a prototype MEMS tactile imager with content-addressable memory (CAM) for fingerprint identification applications. Mr. Benedict received his Juris Doctor from Michigan State University College of Law in 2008. While attending law school, Mr. Benedict worked for two summers as a summer associate for Harness Dickey, assisting in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications and conducting legal research.

Jennifer Woodside Wojtala is a registered patent attorney who counsels clients on various intellectual property matters. Her practice includes patent preparation and prosecution, as well as opinion work, including patentability, freedom to market, and validity searches and opinions in the chemical, materials, and mechanical arts. Ms. Woodside's practice also involves intellectual property litigation, including patent, trademark, and copyright infringement matters, as well as merger and acquisition due diligence activities related to intellectual property. Prior to joining Harness Dickey in 2001, Ms. Woodside was an engineer at a cement manufacturing facility. Ms. Woodside has a Bachelor of Science from the University of Michigan in Chemical Engineering and graduated magna cum laude from Wayne State University Law School. Lawrence F. Galvin received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from the U.S. Naval Academy, from which he graduated with distinction in 1978; his Master of Science Degree in Ocean Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology/Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution Joint Program in 1991; and his Juris Doctorate degree from the Georgetown University Law Center in 1998. Before entering the practice of intellectual property law, Mr. Galvin spent twenty years as a nuclear submarine officer in the U.S. Navy, where he gained extensive experience in the practical application of chemical, electrical, mechanical, nuclear, ocean, and systems engineering, as well as materials science. During this time, he also served on the faculty of the Naval Academy (Associate Chairman of the Physics Department, Master Instructor of Physics and Ethics) and the University of Southern California (Assistant Professor of Naval Science). Lindsay N. Kandow received her Bachelor of Science degree, with high honors, in Computer Science and Engineering and a minor in General Business/Prelaw from Michigan State University. Ms. Kandow graduated in 2000 as a member of the Michigan State University Honors College. Ms. Kandow received her Juris Doctor degree from Michigan State University College of Law in 2004. At the Michigan State University College of Law, Ms. Kandow was awarded a certificate of concentration in Intellectual Property Law. While attending law school, Ms. Kandow worked as a software engineer for General Motors Corporation. During such time, she gained technical experience in engine and transmission controls systems. Ms. Kandow participated in the design, testing, and vehicle integration of various engine and transmission software systems. Ms. Kandow also developed and maintained software applications used in the embedded controls systems development process. Ms. Kandow is a member of the State Bar of Michigan. Her professional affiliations include the American Bar Association, the Oakland County Bar Association, and the Michigan Intellectual Property Law Association.

Lisa M. DuRoss has practiced trademark and copyright law for over 19 years. Her practice is devoted to all phases of trademark and copyright procurement, licensing, maintenance and enforcement on a global basis. She joined Harness Dickey in 2000 and became an equity principal in 2004. Ms. DuRoss has been a frequent speaker on various intellectual property topics, including the Copyright Fair Use Doctrine in the educational arena. As an adjunct professor, she developed and taught a curriculum entitled "Protecting Your Ideas." She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in French and Dance from Mount Holyoke College and a Juris Doctor Degree from the University of Detroit School of Law (now University of Detroit Mercy). Admitted to practice to the Bar of the State of Michigan since 1986, Ms. DuRoss is also admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Her reported cases include Jones v. Nino Homes, 858 F.2d 274 (C.A. 6th 1988) and U.S. Structures v. J.P. Structures, 130 F.3d 1185 (C.A. 6th 1997). Ms. DuRoss has served as an expert witness in a number of trademark cases. She is an active member of the International Trademark Law Association ("INTA") and the Michigan Intellectual Property Law Association. She has lived and studied in Paris, France and is fluent in French.

Lukas Baldridge received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Michigan State University and his Juris Doctor from Santa Clara University School of Law. While attending law school, Mr. Baldridge worked as an intern at Harness Dickey assisting in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications and at a community law center in San Jose, CA focusing on Workers' Compensation claims.

Mark A. Frentrup is a Principal in the Troy office. He joined the firm in 2000 after an 18 year career in industrial research. He earned a B.S. in Chemistry, summa cum laude, from the University of Texas (Austin); a J.D. summa cum laude from Wayne State University (Detroit); and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Michigan State University. Dr. Frentrup practices in a wide variety of chemical and mechanical arts with specialties in organic chemistry and polymer chemistry. His practice includes preparation and prosecution of pioneering patents as well as opinions to support a client's commercial strategy. His clearance and invalidity opinions are marked by expert level technical analysis and rigorous legal analysis. He specializes in planning and executing patent strategies that cover a client's technology with multiple patent filings. Nicholas S. Drysdale received his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Oakland University, his Second Major in Systems Engineering from Oakland University, and his Juris Doctor from Thomas M. Cooley Law School. Mr. Drysdale joined Harness Dickey as a Law Clerk while he attended law school. While working as a Law Clerk, Mr. Drysdale primarily assisted in preparing and prosecuting patent applications. Paul Keller joined Isle of Capri Casinos, Inc. as senior vice president, chief development officer in 2008. Previously he was executive vice president of design and construction for Trump Entertainment Resorts and prior to that he served as vice president of design and construction for Argosy Gaming Company. He also held a leadership role for Walt Disney Imagineering and participated in the development of Epcot Center and Tokyo Disneyland. Paul holds a BSE degree in civil engineering from Duke University and an MBA from the University of Michigan. Paul has been leading teams of designers and contractors on major projects for over 25 years and has extensive experience in the entertainment, resort, and casino sectors. He is currently focused on creating shareholder value through the pursuit of organic growth opportunities and re-branding the Isle of Capri Casinos' portfolio into Isle and Lady Luck properties.

Ryan E. Alley received his Bachelor of Science in Nuclear Engineering from Purdue University in 2003, where he was a member of Alpha Nu Sigma, a nuclear engineering academic honorary fraternity. Mr. Alley received his Juris Doctor degree from The George Washington University Law School in 2006, where he specialized in intellectual property law. Before attending law school, Mr. Alley worked for Sandia National Labs in their Nuclear Modeling and Analysis Group. Mr. Alley specializes in patent application preparation and prosecution in mechanical, electro-mechanical, and nuclear technologies, including next generation nuclear plant and nuclear component design. Mr. Elchert received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte where he focused on optics and instrumentation and his Master of Science Degree in Biomedical Engineering from the Joint Program of University of Memphis and University of Tennessee at Memphis. Mr. Elchert's thesis is titled "Clinical Based Instrumentation for Gait Analysis." Mr. Elchert graduated cum laude from Florida State University College of Law in 2003. Scott T. Gray received a BS degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Missouri, Columbia, and a JD degree from St. Louis University, School of Law. Prior to attending law school Mr. Gray was employed by Coin Acceptors Inc. as senior lead engineer in the Reliability and Testing Department. Mr. Gray is licensed to practice law in the State of Missouri, is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Missouri, and the U.S. District Court, Western District of Missouri, and is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office. His current practice includes patent, trademark and copyright matters. Li-Hua Weng earned her B.S. and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from National Taiwan University in Taipei, Taiwan, and her Juris Doctor degree, cum laude, from the John Marshall Law School in Chicago, where she was a staff editor of the John Marshall Review of Intellectual Property Law. Ms. Weng has authored a law review article entitled "Preamble Interpretation: Clarifying the 'Giving Life, Meaning and Vitality Language'" in Boston University Journal of Science & Technology Law, vol. 11:1 (2005). Prior to entering law school, Ms. Weng worked for four years as a patent engineer in an intellectual property law firm in Taiwan and gained valuable experience in foreign patent prosecution. Ms. Weng focuses her current practice on patent prosecution in complex mechanical inventions. Ms. Weng is currently registered to practice in the state of Illinois and authorized to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office under 37 C.F.R. 11.9. Ms. Weng is a member of the State Bar of Illinois and American Bar Association. Ms. Weng speaks Chinese and understands Japanese.

Timothy D. MacIntyre is a principal who has been with the firm since 1996. Prior to joining Harness Dickey, Mr. MacIntyre earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan and a Juris Doctor Degree, magna cum laude, from Wayne State University Law School. Upon completing his undergraduate studies, he spent four years as a consultant with Andersen Consulting. During that time, Mr. MacIntyre designed and developed client-server software applications for a number of large companies.

William A. Ziehler earned a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio and then completed graduate studies at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where he earned a Ph.D. in biological chemistry. He earned his Juris Doctorate magna cum laude from Michigan State University College of Law with a concentration in intellectual property law. Dr. Ziehler's graduate work focused on biochemical, biophysical, and genetic studies of nucleic acid and protein interactions, in particular those involved in catalytic RNA enzymes. His graduate studies produced several peer reviewed publications and in addition he has coauthored chapters for Current Protocols in Nucleic Acid Chemistry and Methods in Enzymology. Following his graduate work, Dr. Ziehler went on to a biotechnology company where he contributed to development of a novel means of whole genome amplification, including unique nucleic acid manipulations, that culminated in a pending U.S. patent application. Other aspects of Dr. Ziehler's history include managing corporate research projects and developing and instituting corporate IP management polices. He has taught undergraduate biochemistry courses and is the recipient of achievement awards in both law school and graduate school. These include receipt of the NIH funded Cellular Biotechnology Training Grant and the Rackham Pre-doctoral Fellowship while at the University of Michigan.
