HealthSouth is an inpatient rehabilitative health care services provider. Co. operates inpatient rehabilitation hospitals and long-term acute care hospitals (LTCHs) and provides treatment on both an inpatient and outpatient basis. At Dec 31 2007, Co. operated 94 inpatient rehabilitation hospitals, six freestanding LTCHs, 60 outpatient satellites located within or near (and operated by) its hospitals, and 25 home health agencies. Co. also manages 11 inpatient rehabilitation units, three outpatient satellites, and one gamma knife radiosurgery center through management contracts. Co.'s inpatient hospitals are located in 26 states, mainly in Texas, Pennsylvania, Florida, Tennessee, and Alabama.
