An expert in nutritional therapies, Chief Medical Editor Alan R. Gaby is a former professor of Bastyr University of Natural Health Sciences, where he served as the Endowed Professor of Nutrition. He is past-president of the American Holistic Medical Association and gave expert testimony to the White House Commission on Complementary and Alternative Medicine on the cost-effectiveness of nutritional supplements. Dr. Gaby has conducted nutritional seminars for physicians and has collected over 30,000 scientific papers related to the field of nutritional and natural medicine. Jane oversees the credentialing and recredentialing of the Medical Staff and Allied Health Professionals to ensure compliance with JCAHO and other regulatory agencies and requirements. Jane develops the implementation of credentialing policies, procedures and regulations. Jane also manages the Medical Staff Office including employees and volunteers.

Geraldine oversees the credentialing/recredentialing of Medical Staff & Allied Health Professionals. She is responsible for the Medical Staff Office and all duties of the Director in her absence.

Gerri prepares the monthly Medical Staff Newsletter, monthly ER call schedule, and monthly Section agendas. She is responsible for coordinating monthly Continuing Medical Education programs for the Medical, Dental and Allied Health Staff. She is also the executive Assistant to Greg Taylor, MD, Chief Medical Officer.

Ms. Messina specializes in vegetarian nutrition and has served as a senior editor of a vegetarian nutrition newsletter published by Loma Linda University. She coauthored two popular books on nutrition: The Vegetarian Way (Crown Books, 1996) and The Simple Soybean and Your Health (Avery Publishers, 1994); the first textbook on vegetarian nutrition, The Dietitians' Guide to Vegetarian Diets (Aspen Publishers, 1996); and three cookbooks.

Ms. Angell oversees the workflow for creating and updating Healthnotes content as well as the Healthnotes Newswire and Healthnotes Newsletter. She has been the managing editor at two Internet-based companies, a nonfiction book editor for Beyond Words Publishing, and an assistant editor at Simon & Schuster. She holds two master's degrees: a liberal studies degree from Reed College and a children's literature degree from Simmons College.

Dr. Rick Chester is a naturopathic physician, homeopath, acupuncturist, and pharmacist. He received his Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine degree from National College of Naturopathic Medicine in 1992 and his Masters in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from the International Institute of Oriental Medicine. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from Oregon State University and his Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Oregon. Dr. Chester taught pharmacology, geriatric medicine, pulmonology, and practice management at Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in Tempe Arizona. Dr. Rumack is Chairman Emeritus and founder of Micromedex, Inc., a provider of computerized and printed information for professionals and consumers on toxicology, pharmacology, acute care, patient education, occupational medicine, alternative medicine, chemical safety, and regulatory compliance. In addition, Dr. Rumack is Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and a Special Government Employee for the Food and Drug Administration. He completed medical school at the University of Wisconsin and residency at the University of Colorado. He went on to do a fellowship in clinical pharmacology and toxicology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and was a clinical associate at the Regional Poisoning Treatment Center, Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. He sits on the editorial boards of several journals, including Clinical Toxicology, Topics in Emergency Medicine, and Pediatric Pharmacology.

Ms. Kotz is a freelance health writer from Silver Spring, Maryland. She has contributed to more than a dozen health and diet books and has written for several national publications including Good Housekeeping, Parents and Ladies Home Journal. Ms. Dern is a veteran of national consumer public relations agency programs for both commodity board food products and branded manufactured foods. She is coauthor of The Sustainable Kitchen: Passionate Cooking Inspired by Fields, Farms and Oceans (2004, New Society Publishers). Her articles have appeared in publications such as Relish, Cooking Light, Seattle Homes & Lifestyles, Northwest Palate, and Woman's Day Special Interest Christmas Publications. She has also served as copywriter and ghostwriter on seveal cookbooks and has written on food for regional and national organizations. A member of the International Association of Culinary Professionals (IACP), she was awarded the Harry A. Bell Grant for Food Writers n 2003.

A nutritional anthropologist by training, Ms. Knittel works as a nutritional counselor and health writer. She writes regularly about nutrition, alternative medicine, traditional diets, yoga, and fitness for publications such as Natural Health, Yoga Journal, Body & Soul, Fitness, Gourmet, and Let's Live. She is also the author of the User's Guide to Natural Remedies for Depression (Basic Health Publications, 2003).

Nicole Pierce is a naturopathic physician in Portland, OR. Before completing a Bachelor's degree in English literature from the University of Puget Sound, Dr. Pierce's time studying in the Basque Country gave her exposure to some of their rich herbal and cultural traditions, which began her journey toward becoming a natural medical practitioner.
