Ed is President, Chief Executive Officer and Director. Ed’s focus, since assuming the CEO position in July 2004, has been on improving the quality of the real estate portfolio, strengthening the balance sheet and enhancing the Company’s platform for earnings growth. Joining Highwoods in 1982, Ed has served as Director of Development, Division President, Senior Vice President of Operations and Chief Operating Officer and was a partner in the predecessor firm prior to the Company’s initial public offering.
Ed received a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is a member of the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts [NAREIT] Board of Governors; Immediate Past Chair of the University of North Carolina Board of Visitors; Trustee of the North Carolina Symphony; member of Wachovia’s Central Regional Advisory Board; and Director and President Elect of the YMCA of the Triangle.

Art is the chief information officer and leads the Company’s technology department with a primary goal of developing and establishing overall information technology strategy for the organization. He also ensures that Highwood's technology investments are aligned with the overall business.
Before joining Highwoods in 2000, Art was a technology consulting manager at McGladrey & Pullen and prior to that, a network manager for a non-profit organization in Washington DC. Art has 17 years of experience in the business technology field.
Art holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Elon University and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Dan Clemmens is Vice President and Chief Accounting Officer. He joined Highwoods in 2007. Previously, Dan was a Senior Manager with Ernst & Young LLP in Atlanta for 13 years. Dan has extensive experience in the real estate industry, having led Ernst & Young’s outside audit engagement team focusing on a variety of public REITs, including Highwoods.
Dan is a graduate of Arizona State University and is a Certified Public Accountant
Kevin is vice president, strategy, and has held this position since 2004. He joined Highwoods in 1997, and served as the Company's chief information officer for ten years. Kevin's current responsibilities include managing Highwoods' Strategic Planning Process, business process improvement initiatives, investment analysis, and portfolio management.
Prior to Highwoods, Kevin worked in the IT departments at Genentech, a leading biotechnology firm headquartered in San Francisco, and CSC Index.
Kevin holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Boston University, and a Master’s in Business Administration from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University.
Mike is executive vice president and chief operating officer. Prior to July 1, 2004, Mike was a senior vice president directly responsible for the Company's day-to-day operations in Memphis with regional oversight responsibility for the Nashville, Kansas City and Charlotte divisions.
Mike was an executive vice president of Crocker Realty Trust prior to Highwoods' acquisition of Crocker in September 1996. Before joining Crocker Realty Trust, Mike served as senior vice president, general counsel and chief financial officer of Towermarc Corporation, a privately owned real estate development firm.
Mike is a graduate of the University of Mississippi, receiving a bachelor of arts degree, the University of Arkansas School of Law, receiving a juris doctor degree, and the University of Memphis, receiving a master of business administration-finance degree.
Mike is a member of the Urban Land Institute, Lambda Alpha International Land Economic Society and a past member of the American and Arkansas Bar Associations. He also serves on the advisory board of directors of Wachovia Bank - Memphis.
Terry L. Stevens is Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Highwoods Properties, Inc. ( Highwoods ) located in Raleigh, North Carolina. Mr. Stevens joined Highwoods in December 2003. Highwoods is a publicly traded real estate investment trust that owns office, industrial and retail properties. Mr. Stevens has served as a trustee of the Company since our initial public offering. Prior to joining Highwoods, Mr. Stevens held various executive positions, including Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Trustee, from 1994 to 2003 with Crown American Realty Trust, a publicly traded retail real estate company that merged with Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust in November 2003. From 1990 to 1994, Mr. Stevens was Director of Financial Systems Development as well as Director of Internal Audit at AlliedSignal, Inc., a large multi-national manufacturer. He also spent 18 years with Price Waterhouse, including seven years as an audit partner. Mr. Stevens received a Bachelor of Science degree in physics from Juniata College and a Masters of Business Administration from The Wharton School.

Carman is the vice president of investments, coordinating the Company’s real estate investment and portfolio planning process, including acquisitions and dispositions, and is responsible for private capital raising efforts. Carman joined Highwoods in 1994 as vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer and remained in that position until December 2003.
Prior to joining Highwoods, Carman spent four years with KPMG Peat Marwick, and served as chief accounting officer for Boddie-Noell Enterprises, Inc., a franchisee of 350 Hardee's restaurants and a real estate investment trust.
Carman received his Bachelor of Science degree in accounting with honors from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
Dan oversees a portfolio of 2.6 million square feet. He has 22 years of experience in commercial real estate, leasing, investment sales, marketing and finance. Before joining Highwoods in July 2006, Dan served as senior vice president of development for Central Florida with Trammell Crow Company. Dan is active in various industry organizations, most recently as 2006 Central Florida NAIOP chapter president. Dan earned a bachelors degree and a masters of business administration from the University of Florida, and earned a masters in real estate development from MIT.
Jeff Miller is Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary. He joined Highwoods in 2007. Previously, Jeff was a Partner with the law firm of DLA Piper US LLP and prior to that he was a Partner with the law firm of Alston & Bird LLP. Prior to joining Highwoods, Mr. Miller concentrated his practice on securities, corporate governance and related strategic matters, and served as general outside counsel to a variety of publicly-traded REITs, including Highwoods.
Mr. Miller received a B.A. from Pennsylvania State University and a J.D. and M.B.A. from Wake Forest University. He is admitted to practice in North Carolina.
Jim oversees a portfolio of 6.3 million square feet. He has over 15 years of experience in commercial and industrial real estate finance, acquisitions, development, leasing, and property management, all in Atlanta. Before joining Highwoods in 2006, Jim served as Vice President of Acquisitions with Consolidated Resources Corporation. He was also Director of Acquisitions for Anderson Properties. Jim was a Certified Public Accountant with Price Waterhouse for four years. He is a member of NAIOP and the Urban Land Institute. Jim received his undergraduate degree from Duke University.

Paul oversees a portfolio of 2.4 million square feet. He has over 30 years of experience in the Richmond real estate market, first as a consultant and then as a developer. In early 1984, Paul formed his own company with a local partner and began developing their commercial investment portfolio. In September 1995, they merged with Highwoods. Paul has been a guest lecturer in graduate real estate courses at the University of Virginia and Virginia Commonwealth University. He is actively involved in a number of civil and church programs, including Capitol District Chairman for the local Boy Scout Council. Paul holds a bachelors degree in economics from Syracuse University and a master's degree in economics from the University of Virginia.
Rick oversees a portfolio of 5.6 million square feet, including office and industrial properties in Greensboro and Winston Salem. Rick joined Highwoods in 1995 as a leasing representative and was promoted to Director of Leasing for the Triad Division in 1999. Rick is past President of the Triad chapter of NAIOP and currently serves on the National Board of NAIOP. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Georgetown University.
Steve oversees a portfolio of 2 million square feet. He has over 26 years of experience in commercial real estate, development, leasing, marketing and finance. Prior to joining Highwoods in 2004, he was senior vice president of Trammell Crow Company, overseeing the Memphis Office Brokerage and Leasing division. Steve has received the Pinnacle Award as Memphis' Top Office Sales Broker for 2002 and 2004. He is a Certified Public Accountant, an active member of the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors, a Certified Commercial Investment Member and a member of Lambda Alpha International. He is on the Board of Directors of the Memphis Symphony Orchestra and serves as Director of the Memphis Area Association of Realtors (MAAR). Steve earned a Bachelors of Business Administration from Baylor University.

Tabitha Zane is vice president of investor relations and corporate communications. She is a corporate communications specialist with over 13 years of experience in investor relations and public relations. Previously, she was vice president of investor relations for SpectraSite Communications and prior to that, director of investor relations for Spherion Corporation.
Tabitha was a member of the board of directors for the National Investor Relations Institute (“NIRI”). She was a founder and the first president of the NIRI San Antonio Chapter and served on the boards of NIRI’s Charlotte and South Florida chapters. Tabitha co-chaired NIRI’s 2000 Annual Conference served on NIRI’s Annual Conference Committee in 1998 and 1999. Tabitha received her undergraduate degree from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut.
Skip oversees a portfolio of 3.7 million square feet. He is a 20-year commercial real estate veteran, managing all leasing, property management and development activities. Previously, Skip was corporate vice president of leasing where he was responsible for overseeing the Company’s leasing activities across division lines and expanding and leveraging the Company’s multi-market customer program. Skip joined Highwoods in 2002 as senior director of leasing and construction services for the Piedmont Triad Division. Skip currently serves on the boards of the Downtown Raleigh Alliance, the Triangle Community Coalition and Wake County Economic Development. He has also served as a 2004-2006 board member on the National Board of Directors for NAIOP; is the past president of the North Carolina CCIM; and a past president and director of the North Carolina Triad NAIOP chapter. Skip is a 1984 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with a degree in Business Administration.
Gene is senior vice president and a director of the Company. He is member of the Board's Investment Committee.
Gene is directly responsible for the Company's day-to-day operations in Atlanta and has regional oversight responsibility for the Piedmont Triad division. The Atlanta portfolio is comprised of nearly 7.6 million square feet which is approximately 15% of Highwoods' total annualized revenues. Gene, the founder and former president of Anderson Properties, joined Highwoods following the merger of his company with Highwoods in early 1997.
Gene is a past president of the Georgia chapter of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties and is a national board member of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties.
Gene holds a bachelor of arts degree in economics from the University of Georgia.

Amy joined Tessier Associates in May 2005. She has worked in the real estate industry for the past 9 years: as Closing Coordinator for Mountain Lifestyles Mortgage and First Asheville Mortgage, as Office Manager for Coventry Real Estate Advisors in Manhattan and as AssistantProperty Manager at Highwoods Properties in Winston-Salem, NC. Originally from Knoxville, TN, Amy attended UNC-Chapel Hill and obtained a BA Sociology degree. Amy has experience in event planning, and is a certified Notary Public. Prior to joining the Company more than ten years ago, he spent eight years with The Wyatt Company in the treasury group. Hugh received his MBA from Virginia Tech.
Mr. Kaplan has been director of Highwoods since November 2000. He is the chairman of the Audit Committee.
Mr. Kaplan is a certified public accountant and retired in 2000 as a partner from Ernst & Young LLP where he was the national director of that firm's REIT Advisory Services group. Mr. Kaplan has served on the board of governors of the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts and has been actively involved in REIT legislative and regulatory matters for over 20 years.
Mr. Kaplan is a director of Endeavor Real Estate Securities, a private REIT, Maguire Properties, Inc., a publicly traded office REIT based in California, and Feldman Mall Properties, Inc. a publicly traded mall REIT based in Arizona.
Mr. Adler has been a director of Highwoods since its initial public offering in June 1994. He is a member of the Executive and Investment Committees.
Mr. Adler is chairman of PSF Management Co. in Cleveland, Ohio. Mr. Adler has served as a member of the executive committee and board of governors of the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts, and he was national president in 1990 of the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors. Mr. Adler formerly served on the board of directors of the National Association of Realtors and the board of governors of the American Society of Real Estate Counselors. Mr. Adler currently active in the Urban Land Institute.
