Richard C. Hyde is currently serving as a Senior Visiting Fellow at the Center for Risk Communication. He is also Executive Vice President of Hill & Knowlton, one of the world's largest public affairs/communications firms. Based out of New York City, Mr. Hyde is in charge of Hill & Knowlton's U.S. crisis communication management. He has more than 40 years of experience in crisis communications, issues development and management. He has counseled on more than a dozen major global crisis events ranging from physical disasters to threats to organizational reputation. Among other assignments, his crisis teams have handled the International Olympic Committee following the Salt Lake City scandal; the crash of Swissair flight 111, and Union Carbide's settlement with the Indian Supreme Court following the Bhopal tragedy. Tara Knight is a Senior Consultant with Hill & Knowlton, a national public relations and public affairs agency in Vancouver. Her expertise lies in stakeholder relations, fundraising, marketing and communications. Prior to joining Hill & Knowlton, Tara lived and worked in Australia. A senior public affairs counsellor, Tom served as president and CEO of H&K USA from 1996 through 2001. He led the U.S. firm during an era of unprecedented organic and acquisition-led growth. Before he became the firm's U.S. president and CEO, Tom served as chairman of its public affairs practice and as GM of its New York and Washington offices. Prior to joining Hill & Knowlton, he founded and served as president of Hoog and Associates, Inc., a government affairs firm with offices in Washington, D.C. and Orange County, California. Tom served on the executive committee and national finance committee for then-Gov. Bill Clinton's 1992 presidential campaign. He also served for five years as chief of staff for U.S. Senator Gary Hart of Colorado. Before his Capitol Hill experience, Hoog's involvement in national politics began with his work for the presidential campaigns of Sen. Robert F. Kennedy and Sen. George McGovern. Before that, he spent six years as a naval aviator with the U.S. Navy's Pacific Fleet. Today, Tom serves at the pleasure of the president of the United States on the advisory board of the Smithsonian Institute's National Air and Space Museum. He currently serves on the board of advisors of the Vietnam War Memorial and is a member of the Central City Opera Associates Board. He is a member of the Glocal Forum Board, an NGO devoted to cooperation among global mayors. He also served as the chairman of the Wolf Trap Foundation from 2000 to 2002. Tom currently serves on corporate boards of directors, frequently delivers speeches and leads seminars at universities around the nation. He was the chairman of PRSA's Counselors Academy in 2002 and 2003. He was selected by PR Week magazine as one of the 100 most influential public relations practitioners of the 20th century. He was awarded the John W. Hill Award for Excellence in the public relations profession. In 2004, he was honored by the Colorado chapter of PRSA with their Swede Johnson Lifetime Achievement Award, and in October 2004, he was awarded the PRSA Gold Anvil Award, their highest individual honor.
Andrew Laurence is a senior counselor with more than twenty years' experience advising clients on matters of corporate reputation. He is an expert in international corporate communications and chairs Hill & Knowlton's worldwide corporate practice committee. Andrew has led assignments for leading companies in the energy, technology, FMCG and financial and professional services industries. He has advised senior management teams on the communication of change within their organizations and the establishment of best-in-class communication functions. He also has consulted with numerous cities and countries on their image and marketing campaigns. Previously chairman and CEO of Hill & Knowlton Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA), Andrew joined the company in 1989. He has held senior consulting and management positions including chairman EMEA practices, head of EMEA's corporate practice, deputy chariman and CEO of Hill & Knowlton UK. Andrew joined H&K from the London Docklands Development Corporation where he was part of the team behind Europe's largest regeneration project and the development of Canary Wharf. Andrew has written and lectured widely on aspects of corporate reputation and destination marketing. He graduated from Reading University with an honours degree in law. He is a barrister, a graduate of the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art and a member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations.
Norman Y. Mineta was named to our Board of Directors in May 2007. Mr. Mineta is Vice Chairman of Hill & Knowlton, Inc., a communications consultancy, and has served in that role since July 2006. From 2001 to 2006, Mr. Mineta served as the United States Secretary of Transportation and, among other things, guided the creation of the U.S. Transportation Security Administration. Mr. Mineta served as the United States Secretary of Commerce from 2000 to 2001. Prior to that, Mr. Mineta represented San Jose, California, for almost 30 years, as a City Council member, then as Mayor, and then from 1975 to 1995 as a member of Congress. Mr. Mineta is a member of the board of directors of Horizon Lines.
