Dr. Sumant Ramachandra brings nearly 20 years of healthcare experience and strong leadership abilities to his role as senior vice president, Research & Development (R&D) and Medical Affairs, and chief scientific officer of Hospira, Inc.
Prior to joining Hospira in July 2008, Dr. Ramachandra spent much of his career leading scientific advancements for some of the industry's largest pharmaceutical companies, including Merck, Pharmacia, Pfizer and Schering-Plough. As an R&D business leader, Dr. Ramachandra set in motion several therapy programs that would benefit patients living with cancer -- such as Camptosar® (irinotecan hydrochloride injection) and Aromasin® (exemestane tablets) at Pfizer, and Temodar® (temozolomide capsules) at Schering-Plough. He was responsible for formulating innovative strategies and executing R&D plans that resulted in successful U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approvals.
Dr. Ramachandra's award-winning work is also widely recognized through publications. He has participated in a multitude of scientific studies on tumor cell biology and immunology as well as authoring book chapters about basic cell biology and oncology. Additionally, he has filed several product patents for various cancer treatments and the use of antibodies in cancer therapy. He earned a bachelor's degree in biochemistry from Rutgers University, graduating with high honors. Dr. Ramachandra then pursued a combined M.D./Ph.D. degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry - New Jersey Medical School, earning the University's Medal of Excellence and subsequently conducting his residency at the Harvard-affiliated Massachusetts General Hospital. He is now nearing completion of a master's of business administration at Wharton Business School.

Terrence C. Kearney brings more than 25 years of broad healthcare experience and leadership to his role as chief operating officer, Hospira, Inc.
Kearney has gained extensive exposure to and involvement with numerous operating and financial activities, focusing on both the device and pharmaceutical sides of the healthcare industry since joining Abbott Laboratories in 1979. His management expertise spans domestic and international markets.
Most recently, Kearney served as senior vice president, finance and chief financial officer, Hospira, Inc. Prior to April 30, 2004, when Hospira spun off from Abbott, he served as vice president and treasurer from 2001 to 2004. In May 2002, he assumed an interim role as vice president for Abbott’s Diagnostics Division. Prior to being named treasurer, Kearney served as vice president and controller for Abbott's International Division.
He earned a bachelor's degree in biology from the University of Illinois and has a master's degree in finance from the University of Denver.
Kearney was born in 1954 and resides in north suburban Chicago.
Thomas E. Werner brings nearly 30 years of leadership experience across a broad base of financial disciplines and industries, including healthcare, to his role as senior vice president, Finance, and chief financial officer, Hospira, Inc.
Prior to joining Hospira in August 2006, Werner served as senior vice president, Finance, and chief financial officer of Böwe Bell + Howell, a service, manufacturing and software company that provides document processing and postal solutions. He joined Böwe Bell + Howell in late 2001.
Earlier in his career, Werner was chief financial officer for two publicly traded companies -- Xpedior Incorporated, a software developer and integrator; and uBid, Inc., an e-commerce company -- and served as corporate controller for Gateway, Inc. Werner also held various financial roles at Baxter Healthcare Corporation and American Hospital Supply Corporation.
Werner earned a bachelor's degree in business from the Indiana University and is a certified public accountant. He was born in 1957 and resides in north suburban Chicago.

Brian J. Smith serves as senior vice president, general counsel and secretary for Hospira, Inc.
Prior to Hospira, Smith held various positions at Abbott Laboratories in the Legal Division, including domestic and international areas of law.
From 1979 to 1984, he performed legal work for Abbott's Hospital Products Division, Specialty Products Division (SPD) and Corporate Engineering Division. In 1984, he was promoted to division counsel and managed the legal work for the Abbott Diagnostics Division and the Pharmaceutical Products Division (PPD), as well as TAP Pharmaceutical Products (TAP). In 1991, he began managing international legal work for Abbott's businesses in Europe, Latin America, Pacific Asia and Africa.
In October 1995, Smith was appointed divisional vice president, Domestic Legal Operations. In this position, he managed U.S. legal work for Global Pharmaceutical Research and Development, PPD, SPD, and TAP, as well as the following corporate areas: human resources, corporate engineering, real estate, employment and labor, benefits and corporate securities matters. In addition, he served as assistant secretary for Abbott and secretary to The Clara Abbott Foundation, the Employee Benefit Board of Review and TAP.
Smith earned a bachelor's degree in political science at Bradley University in 1973, and a juris doctorate from the University of Michigan in 1976. He is a member of the Illinois and American Bar Associations.

Kenneth (Ken) Meyers leads Hospira’s global human resources function as senior vice president, Organizational Transformation and People Development, with a focus on advancing Hospira's high-performance culture and organizational excellence. Meyers brings more than 20 years of senior leadership, HR and operations experience to his role.
Prior to joining Hospira in December 2008, Meyers served as a partner at Oliver Wyman, an international management consulting firm. As a specialist in leadership development, Meyers worked with senior teams to accelerate high performance, and has served as a principal consultant and coach to senior executives at well-known companies such as Amgen, L’Oreal, Nike, Novartis, Time Warner, Sara Lee and Unilever.
Before joining Oliver Wyman, Meyers was senior vice president, Human Resources at Starbucks Coffee International, where he led human resources strategy and direction as Starbucks expanded internationally through company-owned, licensed and joint-venture operations. Throughout his career, Meyers has also held leadership positions with Disney, Gymboree and United Technologies.
Meyers earned a bachelor’s degree in International Business and Human Resources Management from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and a master's of business administration from the Harvard Business School.

Ron Squarer serves as senior vice president, Global Marketing and Corporate Development for Hospira. In this role he is responsible for long-term growth, global business strategy, upstream marketing activities and pipeline optimization for Hospira’s entire portfolio, including specialty injectable pharmaceuticals and medication management systems. He also retains responsibility for global business development from his previous position as corporate vice president, Global Strategy and Business Development, which he assumed in January 2007.
Squarer joined Hospira following its acquisition of Mayne Pharma, Ltd., and has 17 years of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry in product marketing, business development and strategy. At Mayne, he served as senior vice president, Global Corporate and Business Development, where he led Mayne's licensing, acquisition and partnership activities.
He joined Mayne from Pfizer Inc., where he held various roles and served on the oncology licensing review committee, global commercial leadership team and strategic advisory board. Squarer was involved in acquiring key portfolio assets and shepherded multiple oncology products into registration trials. He also has extensive experience in the infectious disease and neuroscience therapeutic areas, acquired through his licensing and new product development responsibilities at Pfizer.
Prior to Pfizer, Squarer held various positions at SmithKline Beecham in the United States and Europe.
He earned a bachelor's degree in biochemistry from the University of California at Berkeley and a master's degree in business administration from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University.
