Amy Goodman is the host and executive producer of Democracy Now! , a national, daily, independent news program that airs on more than 420 public radio and TV stations in North America, as well as on Dish Network and DirecTV and the Internet. Goodman is an investigative journalist who has reported most recently from Doha and London. She has also reported from East Timor, Nigeria, Mexico, Haiti and Cuba. Anthony apologizes for the following litany of resume-speak. For his work as Cofounder/Publisher of the online magazine Crisp, Anthony was commended as one of the Top 7 Web Publishers in the World by Virtual City magazine (a Newsweek publication) and featured in the book, International Who's Who in Information Technology. Anthony and Paul's groundbreaking book, Online Markets for Writers: How and Where to Get Published Online and Paid for It, was first published by Henry Holt & Company, and blurbed by chairperson of the National Writers Union Journalism Division, Cate T. Corcoran, as "The best market guide for writers I've ever seen, with juicy details about pay rates, contracts, and the inside workings of Net media companies that can take professional writers years to learn." The latest edition is out - click for reader reviews, a free excerpt and information about its $250 Paid & Published Guarantee . In 1997, Anthony wrote WRITER'S MARKET's very first chapter about writing for online markets for its 1998 edition, and he's gone on to give expert writing advice and resources to hundreds of thousands of its readers through WRITER'S MARKET's 1999, 2000, and 2002-2007 editions. He's also helped writers through other publications, including The Writer magazine, Details and The Boston Globe. As a guest instructor, Anthony's taught both suburban and inner-city student writers at high school, college and graduate programs. He cofounded the Student Publishing Program, which was selected as one of the top high school writing programs in the country by Web del Sol, the largest nonprofit publisher of periodical contemporary literature in the United States. Web del Sol's Words Work Network (http://www.wow-schools.net/) has only given this distinction to 11 other high school writing programs. As a guest speaker, he's taught adult writers at many of the nation's largest writer conferences, including those of the American Society of Journalists and Authors, the National Writers Union, and the National Conference of Editorial Writers. Anthony also teaches and advocates for writers on radio shows such as "Connections" on National Public Radio affiliates, and television news shows such as "Money Talks," on ABC in New York and its affiliates worldwide, where he represented the side of writers against the New York Times Company in its Supreme Court case debating electronic rights, and then, after writers won the case, he again represented the side of writers in creating a solution to remedy damage the defendants had done to the livelihood of writers. Anthony's almost done with his bio. He cofounded the Presidential Youth Debates with calls to Clinton and Dole in 1996, produced it again in 2000 with Bush and Gore, and then, with herculean help from Martha Sager, again in 2004 with Bush, Kerry and Nader, and principal sponsorship from New Voters Project. She was recently awarded the Canon Emerging Professionals Scholarship and is recognized as a photographer of national merit.
Bernadette Budde is regarded by many as the dean of Congressional campaign watchers. She is that rarest of political entities: an astute observer, possessed of unblemished integrity, who has maintained a finger on the pulse of the Congressional continuum for a remarkable 15 consecutive election cycles. Thousands of Congressional candidates have passed through Bernadette's office seeking entree to the American business community. For many, it is the first stop on the campaign trail. Why? Business and industry provide an average of $50-80 for every campaign dollar BIPAC contributes - and Bernadette Budde's incisive political analysis drives that first business dollar and virtually all that follow. In more than 30 years at BIPAC, Bernadette's sometimes unpopular, but historically accurate, advice has earned her the apt reputation among candidates as "steel covered in pearls and silk." Among business leaders, media heavyweights and her political peers, her legendary command of campaign and candidate numbers and nuance have earned her the role of trusted "source" and frequent counsel. Bernadette guides the development of all BIPAC's respected political analysis programs, and she initiated "Forward Thinking" and "Thinking Anew," among many firsts on business' road to contemporary political effectiveness. Her voice often leads the organization's conferences and briefings. It is heard frequently in the popular press as well -- whether on ABC News NIGHTLINE challenging the trial bar's political aspirations and the separation of powers, in The New York Times, The Washington Post, or "Business Week" magazine on the sum and substance of candidates and campaigns, or as a power panelist on national radio and television, providing keen commentary on the political contour de jour. Bernadette joined BIPAC as a research analyst in 1970, and was promoted to Director of Political Education in 1974. Ten years later, she became Vice President of Political Education, and was elevated to Senior Vice President in 1993. She is a native of Wisconsin, and holds degrees from Marquette University (from which she graduated Magna Cum Laude) and the University of Maryland. Bernadette can be reached at 202-833-1880 or via e-mail at budde@bipac.org budde@bipac.org .
Bruce Hurwitz, Vice President, joined JHP in 2003 having served as Director of Development at Aging in America, Inc. ? a Bronx-based geriatric facility. At AIA he created the first full-service Development Department, ultimately tripling annual revenue and garnishing unprecedented media coverage for the agency. His marketing efforts at AIA, in conjunction with Time-Warner, were the focus of a feature in The NonProfit Times. He was the host and producer of AIA's award-winning live half-hour call-in program on Bronxnet Television, Aging Well, interviewing New York political leadership, decision makers, authors, and practitioners in geriatrics and senior services. Bruce is an occasional contributor to the New York Non-Profit Press. The Bronx Advisory Board of VISIONS/Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired named him recipient of their 2003 Community Service Award. He has close to two decades experience in the academic and non-profit fields in Canada, Israel, and the United States.
