Dr. Wheeler first joined the Huron Clinic in 1991 as a Family Practice Physician. In 1994 he left the Huron Clinic to do a Residency in Internal Medicine, returning in 1997. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine. Dr. Wheeler is the Medical Director for the Huron Nursing Home, Emergency Room at Huron Regional Medical Center, and for the programs connected with Our Home, Inc.

Owen has served as the Laboratory Director for Huron Regional Medical Center, Huron, SD since 1976. He provides leadership and supervision in all aspects of laboratory services as well as maintaining technical skills necessary to provide coverage in the department. Professional affiliations include American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS-SD), Clinical Laboratory Management Association (CLMA-Siouxland) and American Association of Blood Banks (AABB). A graduate of South Dakota State University, Brookings, SD with a BS in Clinical Laboratory Technology, and St. John's Regional Medical Center School of Medical Technology, Huron, SD. Owen has been employed in the clinical laboratory field for over 32 years.
