A Heavy hitter among the world's shipbuilders. Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (Korea: 009540) is the world's largest shipbuilder, constructing bulk carriers, crude oil carriers, liquefied petroleum gas carriers and others. The company also builds floating production storage and offloading platforms and equipment, and provides offshore construction and exploration services. It is expanding into areas such as robotic systems, presses and large industrial pumps. Founded in 1972, the company is based in Dong Ku, South Korea and employs about 20,000 people. It has revenue of $7.03 billion. HHI set a record, having three of the vessels it built selected as the Most Outstanding Ships of the Year, by two leading vessel magazines of the U.S. including Maritime Reporter and Marine Log, and one British maritime magazine, Naval Architect. This is the 23rd year in a row since 1983 that the company has been honored.
