Jean-Pierre Sommadossi, Ph.D., is the principal founder of Idenix and has served as the chairman of our board of directors since our inception in 1998 and as our president and chief executive officer since November 2000. During the period from November 1999 to November 2000, Dr. Sommadossi served as our executive president and chief scientific officer. Dr. Sommadossi served as a professor of pharmacology, toxicology and clinical pharmacology and associate director of both the Center for AIDS Research and the Liver Center, University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine from June 1992 to November 2000. From 1996 to 1999, Dr. Sommadossi served on the Research Agenda Committee of the AIDS Clinical Trial Group. Dr. Sommadossi holds a Pharm.D. and Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the University of Marseilles in France.

John Weidenbruch has served as the executive vice president and general counsel at Idenix since September 2006. Prior to joining Idenix, Weidenbruch served as general counsel at Abraxis BioScience Inc., where he was responsible for all legal aspects of the company, including regulatory, corporate and commercialization activities. Prior to joining Abraxis, Weidenbruch worked at Amgen Inc. for more than ten years where he held positions of increasing responsibility including senior director of law operations and senior associate general counsel of global commercial operations, leading a team of attorneys that, along with day-to-day guidance for commercial activities, supported the launch of new products. Weidenbruch also served as the assistant general counsel and director of state government relations for the Nonprescription Drug Manufacturers Association where he directed the association’s legislative representation before all fifty state legislatures, boards of pharmacy and regulatory bodies
Weidenbruch holds a B.A. from Loyola College in Baltimore, Maryland and a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C.

Paul Fanning has served as vice president, human resources since March 2004. Prior to joining Idenix, Mr. Fanning was employed by The Foxboro Company and its affiliates from 1984 to 2004, most recently as vice president, human resources at Invensys Process Systems from 2000 to 2004 and from 1998 to 2000 as vice president, human resources, Invensys Process Automation. Mr. Fanning holds an M.B.A. from Babson College and a B.S. from the University of Massachusetts.

harles Cramb, Vice Chairman, Chief Finance and Strategy Officer, is responsible for strategic leadership of Avon’s business transformation and restructuring initiatives and also oversees Finance, Strategic Planning and Investor Relations.
Mr. Cramb, joined Avon in November 2005 from Gillette Co. where he acquired 35 years of experience in finance and technology. He was most recently Senior Vice President, Finance and Chief Financial Officer. Prior to that role, he was Vice President and Corporate Controller, and from 1988 to 1995, was Vice President, Finance and Strategic Planning, North Atlantic Group.
In addition to his roles in finance, Mr. Cramb headed Gillette’s information technology function and chaired the company’s IT Advisory Council. He also held key leadership positions in business transformation, strategic and financial planning and marketing, and worked extensively in senior line management in the company’s international operations.
Mr. Cramb is a member of the Board of Directors of Idenix Pharmaceuticals, where he is on the Compensation Committee and is Chairman of the Audit Committee. He is also on the Board of Directors of Tenneco Automotive, where he is Chairman of the Audit Committee.
Mr. Cramb holds a B.A. from Dartmouth College and an M.B.A from the University of Chicago.
Denise Pollard-Knight, Ph.D. has served as a director since May 2003. From January 1999 to March 2004, Dr. Pollard-Knight served as head of Healthcare Private Equity at Nomura International plc, a leading Japanese financial institution. Since April 2004, Dr. Pollard-Knight has served as head of Nomura Phase4 Ventures, an affiliate of Nomura International plc. Prior to joining Nomura, Dr. Pollard-Knight was a member of Rothschild Asset Management Ltd., an investment management firm, from January 1997 to January 1999. Dr. Pollard-Knight held several research and development management positions at Amersham-Pharmacia and Fisons plc. In December 2005, Dr. Pollard-Knight became a member of the Board of Trustees of the British Heart Foundation. Dr. Pollard-Knight holds a Ph.D. and BSc (Hons) from the University of Birmingham in England. Dr. Pollard-Knight completed postdoctorate work as a Fulbright Scholar at the University of California, Berkeley.

Robert Pelzer has served as a director since May 2003. Mr. Pelzer is President and Chief Executive Officer of Novartis Corporation. In this position, which he assumed in September 2008, he is responsible for the Novartis Group Companies in North America and the Novartis US Foundation. Previously, Mr. Pelzer was Global General Counsel and Head of Legal Services of Novartis Pharma AG, based in Basel, Switzerland. He also served as a member of the Novartis Pharma Executive Committee. Prior to joining Novartis in 2002, Mr. Pelzer was Senior Vice President and General Counsel at DuPont Pharmaceuticals based in Wilmington, Delaware. Mr. Pelzer also held a variety of positions within the DuPont organization, including Director and General Manager for the European oil and gas business and Vice President and General Counsel of Conoco Canada Limited in Calgary, Canada. He began his legal career at the law firm of MacKimmie Matthews in Calgary. A graduate of the University of Alberta in Alberta, Canada, Mr. Pelzer earned degrees in Commerce and in Law.
Steven Projan, Ph.D., has served as a director since February 2009. Dr. Projan has served as Vice President, Global Head of Infectious Diseases for Novartis Institute for Biomedical Research since September 2008. Prior to joining Novartis, from 1993 to August 2008, Dr. Projan held several positions at Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, including his most recent position as Vice President of Biological Technologies. Dr. Projan holds a Ph.D. in molecular genetics from Columbia University.
