Dow Jones Description
Continuing to build on nearly 160 years of manufacturing leadership, INTERMET Corporation is one of the world's foremost producers of cast-metal components for automotive and commercial-vehicle manufacturers. With over 700,000 tons of annual capacity, INTERMET's manufacturing plants cast and machine precision components in aluminum, magnesium, ductile iron and zinc. The company is organized into three distinct manufacturing groups: Die Casting, Ferrous and PCPC. INTERMET's metal-casting operations are more broadly defined by two main areas of manufacturing capability: Light Metals and Ferrous Metals. INTERMET products are sold to automotive and commercial-vehicle OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers around the globe. Powertrain/drivetrain, chassis/structural, interior/electronics and consumer goods components make up a majority of the company's product offerings. INTERMET's full-service capability is augmented by sophisticated engineering and metallurgical resources at its research foundry in Virginia, several in-plant engineering departments, and three in-plant product feasibility centers. In 2004, INTERMET posted revenues totaling $837 million.
