Mr. Welch has served as Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President of the company and a member of the Board since May 2008, and as President and Chief Executive Officer of the company and a member of the Board since September 2003. From March 2003 to September 2003, Mr. Welch served as a consultant to Warburg Pincus LLC, a global private equity investment firm. From August 2002 to January 2003, Mr. Welch served as chairman and chief executive officer of Triangle Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a pharmaceutical company. From October 2000 to June 2002, Mr. Welch served as president of the pharmaceutical division of Elan Corporation, PLC. From September 1987 to August 2000, Mr. Welch served in various senior management roles at Sanofi (now Sanofi-Aventis) and its predecessor companies Sanofi and Sterling Winthrop. During his time at Sanofi-Aventis, he led the successful worldwide launches of Plavix®, Eloxatin® and Avapro® as Vice President of Worldwide Marketing and he served as COO of the U.S. business. From November 1980 to September 1987, Mr. Welch was with American Critical Care, a division of American Hospital Supply. Mr. Welch holds a B.S. from the University of Miami and an M.B.A. from the University of North Carolina.

Dr. Blatt has been with InterMune since May 2002. From January 1998 to May 2002, Dr. Blatt was Vice President of Research at Ribozyme Pharmaceuticals, a biotechnology company. From August 1996 to January 1998, Dr. Blatt served as Vice President, Product Development at National Genetics Institute, a licensed clinical laboratory and from May 1984 to August 1996, Dr. Blatt was employed at Amgen, Inc., a biotechnology company, most recently as Product Development Team Leader, Interferons. Dr. Blatt holds a doctorate in Public Health Administration from the University of La Verne.

Dr. Armstrong has been with InterMune since April 2002. From 1999 to 2002, Dr. Armstrong served as Senior Director of Clinical Development/Regulatory Affairs at Genentech, Inc. Prior to joining Genentech in 1999, she was Senior Director of Clinical Development at PathoGenesis Corporation. From 1995 through 1998 she was department head of Clinical Affairs for Amgen, Inc. Previously, Dr. Armstrong held senior management, clinical scientist and regional sales positions at Alcon Laboratories, Solvay Pharmaceuticals, Parke-Davis/Warner Lambert, and American McGaw. Dr. Armstrong holds a Ph.D. and an M.S. from Florida State University.

Dr. Porter has been with InterMune since July 2001. From 1999 to 2001, Dr. Porter was employed at IntraBiotics Pharmaceuticals, Inc, most recently as Senior Director, Clinical Science and Clinical Affairs. From 1997 to 1999, Dr. Porter served as Senior Director, Clinical Affairs at Shaman Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and from 1996 to 1997, Dr. Porter served as Associate Director, Clinical Research at Bayer Corporation. Dr. Porter received his M.D., and Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. He completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of California, San Francisco and his fellowship in infectious diseases at the University of California, San Francisco and Stanford University. He is currently an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases at the University of California, San Francisco.

Cynthia Robinson founded Robinsong Ecological Restorations in 1990 in Huntsville, Alabama. A decade of forestry-related experience in Oregon provided her with the skills to serve an important niche in environmental management. Robinson began as a landscape contractor establishing backyard wildlife habitats and providing erosion control and watershed maintenance. This work created a demand for native plants that soon led Cynthia to develop North Alabama's first native plant nursery to serve the growing landscape/habitat design and construction business there. In the mid-1990s Robinsong's focus shifted to commercial environmental design, consultation and management contracts. Since 1997 Robinsong has provided restoration services for lost wildlife habitats and mitigation of wetland losses. Clients include city, state and federal agencies, farmers, landowners and private enterprises in need of natural resources management.

Howard A. Simon has been with InterMune since April 2004. Mr. Simon joins us from ABD Insurance and Financial Services, where he was Senior Vice President, Human Resources & Associate Counsel. Prior to ABD, Mr. Simon was the principal in HR & Employment Law Solutions, a consulting firm specializing in the biotechnology industry. He served as Vice President, Human Resources at Maxygen, Inc. from 1999 to 2001. Prior to his in-house and consulting roles, Mr. Simon spent many years in major San Francisco law firms as a partner in employment law representing clients in the life sciences and other industries. He holds an undergraduate degree from UC Berkeley, a law degree from the Boalt Hall School of Law (UC Berkeley), and a Master's Degree from the Graduate Theological Union of Berkeley. He also is a certificated Senior Human Resources Professional.

Ms. Steele has served as Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary since late May 2004. From 1998 to 2003, Ms. Steele worked with Elan Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a global pharmaceutical company headquartered in Dublin, Ireland, most recently as Vice President, Commercial and Legal Affairs in San Diego. Prior to joining Elan, Ms. Steele was in private practice and served as outside counsel to a variety of life science and technology based companies in the Bay Area. Ms. Steele holds a B.A. in Biology from University of Colorado, Boulder, a J.D. from Hastings College of the Law, University of California, San Francisco, and a L.L.M. in Taxation from New York University School of Law.

Dr. Bradford has been with InterMune since July 2001. From 1999-2001, Dr. Bradford served as Director, Clinical Science at IntraBiotics Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and from 1998-1999, Dr. Bradford served as Clinical Scientist at Genentech, Inc. Prior to 1998, Dr. Bradford held various academic and clincial positions including Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Dr. Bradford holds an M.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, School of Medicine, a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Public Health, and trained in internal medicine and infectious diseases at UCSF. He is board-certified in infectious diseases and serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases at UCSF.

Dr. Healy has served as a member of the Board since April 1999 and served as the interim Chairman of the Board from October 1999 through January 2000. Dr. Healy joined Sofinnova Ventures in June 2000 as a general partner and managing director. From January 1998 through March 2000, Dr. Healy was a partner at Sanderling Ventures. During 1997, Dr. Healy was supported by a Novartis Foundation bursary award and performed research at Brigham and Women's Hospital. From 1990 to 1997, Dr. Healy was employed by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and Stanford University. Dr. Healy serves on the board of directors of several private companies. He holds a B.A. in Molecular Biology and a B.A. in Scandinavian studies, both from the University of California at Berkeley. Dr. Healy holds an M.D. and a Ph.D. from the Stanford University School of Medicine.

Lea was the first lab member recruited to work in the Ullman lab. Although her stint was short-lived (she had to relocate about 6 months after being hired), Lea was instrumental in setting the lab up and in initiating many studies focused on Nup153 characterization. After leaving the lab, she went to work for ICOS in Seattle and then in 2006 moved to the Bay Area and is now working at Intermune, Inc.

Louis Drapeau joined InSite Vision in October 2007. Prior to InSite Vision, he served as Chief Financial Officer, Senior Vice President, Finance, at Nektar Therapeutics, a biopharmaceutical company headquartered in San Carlos, California. Prior to Nektar, he served as Acting Chief Executive Officer from August 2004 to May 2005 and as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer from August 2002 to August 2005 for BioMarin Pharmaceutical Inc. Previously, Drapeau spent 30 years at Arthur Andersen including 19 years as an Audit Partner in Arthur Andersen?s Northern California Audit and Business Consulting practice which included 12 years as Managing Partner. Drapeau received both his undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering and a Masters in Business Administration from Stanford University. He serves as a Director of Bio-Rad Laboratories, InterMune, Inc., BioNovo Inc. and Inflazyme Pharmaceuticals Ltd.

Michael L. Smith served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Anthem, Inc., and its subsidiaries, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, from April 1999 until his retirement in January 2005. Anthem is one of the largest health benefits companies in the United States. From April 1996 to March 1998, he served as Chief Operating Officer and CFO of American Health Network, a former Anthem subsidiary that provided physician practice management services to 270 primary care practices in Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio. Prior to joining Anthem, Mr. Smith was Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of transportation company, Mayflower Group, Inc. He began his business career in the Indianapolis office of Arthur Andersen & Co. after graduating from DePauw University in 1970. Mr. Smith currently serves on the Boards of Directors for several businesses, including Emergency Medical Services Corporation, Inc., the nation's largest emergency medical services provider; Kite Realty Group Trust, a real estate investment trust, or REIT; Vectren Corporation, a progressive energy-holding company; and HH Gregg Appliances, Inc., one of the nation's leading retailers of home appliances and consumer electronics. He also serves on the Boards of Finishmaster, Inc., and its parent, Ldi Ltd., and Calumet Specialty Products Partners, L.P. Additionally, Mr. Smith serves on the Board of the Central Indiana Community Foundation and is a member of the Board of Trustees of DePauw University, the Indiana Commission for Higher Education and Lumina Foundation for Education. Mr. Smith is a founding member of Cardinal Equity Partners, a mid-market private equity investment fund headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Dr. Ekman has served as Lead Independent Director of InterMune's Board of Directors since May 2008. Dr. Ekman has been a member of our Board since September 2006. Dr. Ekman currently serves as Executive-in-Residence at Sofinnova Ventures. He formerly served as Executive Vice President and President of Global Research and Development and Director of Elan Corporation. He also leads Elan's Neurodegeneration Franchise. Prior to joining Elan, Dr. Ekman was Executive Vice President of Research and Development for Schwarz Pharma AG, and also served 14 years in a variety of senior scientific and clinical roles at Pharmacia (now Pfizer).
