Dr. Hatim Zaghloul is recognized as a leading innovator in the field of OFDM technology. In 1992, Dr. Zagloul founded Wi-LAN Inc., and under his direction, the company has become a leader in the design, development and global distribution of high-speed wireless data communication products and technology. Dr. Zaghloul holds a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from Cairo University as well as a M.Sc. and a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Calgary. Dr. Zaghloul has published extensively in technical journals and holds over ten patents (three Canadian and American patents filed or pending), some in partnership with Dr. Michel Fattouche of the University of Calgary. Wi-LAN is the patent holder for new technologies invented by Dr. Zaghloul and Dr. Fattouche, including Wide-band Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (W-OFDM) and Multi-code Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (MC-DSSS). Dr. Zaghloul envisioned in 1991 how WOFDM technology can become the main driver for all wideband wireless communications applications including wireless local area networking, wide area networking and cellular telephony. Dr. Zaghloul has served as a Director on a variety of Boards, specifically in the high-technology arena including Wi-LAN Inc. (www.wi-lan.com) Cell-Loc Inc (www.cell-loc.com); Imaging Dynamics Corp. (www.imagingdynamics.com); NTG Clarity Networks Inc. (www.ntgclarity.com), as well as other private entities. Dr. Zaghloul co-founded Wi-LAN, Cell-Loc, NTG Clarity, QCC, and Wireless Inc., the four companies that listed their stock on the stock market rose where investors had a chance to realize in excess of 100 times their initial investment. Dr. Zaghloul has been awarded with many awards: One of 10 Great Canadians by MacLeansa Magazine in July 2000; One of two Calgarians of the Year 2000 by Business in Calgary magazine; Entrepreneur of the Year finalist for 2 consecutive years; Wireless Hall of Fame inductee; 2000 Pinnacle Award by Fraser Milner law firm. Dr. Zaghloul led Wi-LAN to receiving many awards for its technology and its performance. Wi-LAN was the best performing stock on the Toronto Stock Exchange in the years 1999 and 2000.
Dr. Michel Fattouche is chief technical officer of Cell-Loc. Having co-founded Cell-Loc, Dr. Fattouche led the Company for several years as president and chief executive officer. In addition to his responsibilities with Cell-Loc, Dr. Fattouche is a tenured professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Calgary where he has taught and conducted research since 1986. He is currently on a leave of absence from the University to allow him more time to dedicate to technology development at Cell-Loc. Dr. Fattouche has been affiliated with the Calgary-based TR Labs since 1989, where he is currently an adjunct professor, and he is on the board of directors of PsiNaptic Communications. Dr. Fattouche currently holds nine U.S. patents and has ten additional patents pending. He has been published in a number of well-respected publications in the field of digital wireless communications and has spoken at several industry events. Dr. Fattouche obtained his MSc and PhD in electrical engineering from the University of Toronto in 1982 and 1986 respectively and he is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists & Geophysicists of Alberta. Dr. Fattouche was named Prairies Entrepreneur of the Year 2000 for Communications and Technology as part of Ernst and Young's Entrepreneur of the Year (EOY) Program.
