Japan Tobacco doesn't need to blow smoke - it's the market leader. Founded in 1985 and headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, Japan Tobacco, Inc. (Tokyo: 2914) is the world's third-largest tobacco firm, on top of being the leader in Japan. The company controls almost three-quarters of its domestic market, and sells several major brands outside the US. It also has activities in agribusiness, engineering, food, pharmaceuticals, and real estate, and operates in Asia, Europe, North America, and Australia. The company has annual revenue of about $39 billion and employs about 32,600 people. In 2005 the company sold Nitto Kogyo Co., Ltd., it's office automation equipment parts manufacturing subsidiary, to NOK Corporation, a leading car rubber parts and electronic device circuit board manufacturing company.
