Robert W. Lane has served as chairman and chief executive officer of Deere & Company since August 2000. Lane, following an early career in global banking, joined John Deere in 1982, initially managing various operations within the Worldwide Construction Equipment Division and later serving as president and chief operating officer of Deere Credit, Inc. In 1992, he joined the Worldwide Agricultural Equipment Division where, as senior vice president, he directed equipment operations in Latin America, Australia and East Asia. He earlier was Commander of the Pacific Air Forces, Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii; Assistant to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the Pentagon; Commander of U.S. Forces Japan and 5th Air Force at Yokota Air Base, Japan; and held operational command and leadership positions in a variety of Air Force assignments. Myers holds a mechanical engineering degree from Kansas State University and a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Auburn University. He attended the Air Command and Staff College at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama; the U.S. Army War College at Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania; and the Program for Senior Executives in National and International Security at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University.
