John Lewis Partnership Plc.

Charlie Mayfield is a Board Director of the Partnership responsible for John Lewis Department Store operations and associated business such as textile manufacturers. He originally joined the Board as Development Director in 2001. Charlie began his career as an officer in the Scots Guards. He joined SmithKline Beecham as Marketing Manager for the Lucozade account in 1992, moving to the post of Engagement Manager at McKinsey & Co in 1996 (working with consumer and retail organisations with particular reference to e-commerce). He joined the Partnership in 2000 as Head of Business Development, responsible for business strategy and development for both John Lewis and Waitrose. He was responsible for negotiating the purchase of the Partnership's 40% stake in Last Mile Solutions (now called Ocado) and the purchase of Buy.com UK (now part of John Lewis Direct).

Steven was appointed Managing Director of Waitrose in March 2002, having joined the Partnership as Waitrose's Director of Buying in 1996. Before joining the Partnership, Steven spent most of his career at Sainsbury's in various buying roles, including a period with its US subsidiary Shaws, based in Boston. He was also Personal Assistant to the Chairman, and left the company in 1993 as a Senior Manager, Buying. Steven then joined the Ladbroke Group as Buying and Merchandising Director for Texas Homecare for a year before moving to Hilton International in 1995 as Vice-president, Global Merchandising.

Responsible for strategic location and development of sites for new John Lewis department stores. Oversees developments of department stores including refurbishment, extensions and new branches. Ann joined the Partnership in 1991 and was appointed Department Manager, Fashion Accessories, later that year at John Lewis Watford. She moved to John Lewis Oxford Street in 1992 as Merchandise Manager, and the following year became General Manager at John Lewis Kingston. Ann transferred to Victoria in 1996 as General Manager (Projects), Research and Expansion. She was appointed Head of Development in 1999, and Retail Development Director in February 2000. Ann began her career at Shell Chemical Company as an analyst in the Planning & Economics department. She later moved to the BOC Group, and her final post before joining the Partnership was as a senior lecturer at Kingston Business School.

Responsible for all IT and telecommunication systems used throughout John Lewis. Eric joined the Partnership in 1983 as a Department Stores Systems Programmer. In 1985 he became Manager, Technical Support, and in 1991, Manager, Department Stores, where he was responsible for the Buying Team. In 1994 Eric became Manager New Development Area, then Head of Department Stores Buying, Accountancy and Production Systems. In 1997 he became Head of Central Systems, responsible for the development and support of all cross-divisional systems, and in 1998 became Director of Computer Services (1998-2002), where he oversaw the successful relocation of the Partnership's computer centre from London to Bracknell. Eric then became Systems Director, Waitrose where he oversaw the implementation of high capacity broadband links to branches; new point of sale equipment; a self-scanning system; automated in-store picking system for home delivery; and a web-based home shopping system. In March 2006 Eric became Systems Director, John Lewis where, as well as supporting the rapid business growth of the JL division, key initiatives include new buying and merchandise planning systems, new supply chain systems including an automated logistics solution for a new distribution centre, a unified stock accounting system and a trial Radio Frequency Identification RFID system.

Responsible for all branch operations; leader of Branch Management team of 23 Heads of Branch. Gareth joined the Partnership in 1979 at John Lewis Brent Cross, and became Department Manager at John Lewis Oxford Street in 1982. In 1984 he was appointed an Assistant in the Directorate of Research and Expansion, and a year later became Assistant to the Director of Trading (Department Stores). He returned to John Lewis Oxford Street in 1987 as Merchandise Manager, and over the next 10 years held positions as General Manager at John Lewis Bristol, Managing Director of Bonds (now John Lewis Norwich) and of John Lewis Bristol. In 1998 Gareth became Managing Director of the new John Lewis at Cribbs Causeway, and became Director of Retail Operations in 2003.

Janice Doherty joined the Partnership in 1982 as a graduate trainee becoming Department Manager at Waitrose Windsor in 1984. In 1988 Janice transferred to the personnel field as Assistant Staff Manager. She was promoted to Staff Manager in 1991 and took on an enlarged role as Staff and Training Manager in 1992. In 1995 she was made Senior Staff Manager (known as Head of Personnel (Branches) from 1999) leading the Staff and Training teams of the ten Operations Groups. She was promoted to the Board in 2005.

Responsible for strategic direction of the buying function, meeting the business plan targets of sales margin and profit by managing the delivery of strategic assortments by the Directors of Buying and Central Buyers. Jill joined the Partnership in 1976 as a Section Manager in the Separates department at John Lewis Oxford Street. In 1977 she was promoted to Department Manager, Trend, transferring to central offices the following year when she was appointed Central Buyer, Trend, coats and dresses. In 1991 Jill moved to be Central Buyer, Stationery, before becoming of Director of Buying, Men's and Childrenswear, in 1993. Jill became Merchandise Director in 2002.

Responsible for all IT and Telecommunication systems used throughout the Waitrose Division. The role encompasses systems development, from strategic business analysis and R&D, through to systems implementation, and also the operational support, maintenance and performance of all systems used across by the business. After a short period in retail with Bhs, Kevin joined the Partnership in 1977 working in Management Services. His early career was spent as an Analyst, and then Systems team leader, working on Department Store Systems. In 1986 he became the Partnership's Chief Systems Analyst, with responsibility for system development methods, tools and training, and in 1991 returned to the Department Stores as Head of Department Store Systems. In 1997 Kevin became Systems Director and a member of the John Lewis Management Board when it formed in 2002. He became Waitrose Systems Director in March 2006 and joined the Waitrose Management Board.

Nigel Keen has responsibility for the Partnership's property portfolio and its management, together with property acquisition teams. He joined the Partnership at operational board level in 1999 as Deputy Director of Building, then Director of Building and Services responsible for the delivery of the John Lewis development programme for both Waitrose and department stores, encompassing all elements of the design and construction process.

Phil joined the Partnership in February 2001 when John Lewis bought buy.com, of which he was a co-founder. Buy.com was the platform for John Lewis Direct, which has delivered consistently strong growth and today accounts for 7 per cent of John Lewis's sales. Having overseen this growth for five years, Phil was promoted to the Board as Commercial Director.

Richard Hodgson was appointed Director of Buying, Waitrose in October 2006 following a highly successful career with Asda, leaving the post of Marketing & Brand Director. For the last 12 months, Richard has been responsible for both Marketing and Own Label. In 2000, Richard became the youngest member of the Asda Operating Board when he was promoted to Corporate Marketing Director during which time he was responsible for the rebranding of Asda as part of the Wal Mart family.

Responsible for economic forecasting, financial planning/performance appraisal, the investment appraisal process and competitive benchmarking. Richard joined the Partnership in September 2002 as the Partnership's Head of Financial Analysis and moved to the Waitrose division in September 2003 as Head of Finance Services. Richard became the Finance Director of Waitrose in July 2004.

Sharon joined the Partnership in July 2005 as Finance Director for John Lewis. Before joining the Partnership, Sharon was a strategy consultant with OC&C Strategy Consultants, was Head of Strategy and later Director of Finance at B&Q, then held the positions of Finance Director for Woolworths and Nexus Industries.

Tony joined the Partnership in 1982 as a Waitrose management trainee. He became Assistant Manager, Waitrose Wokingham in 1983 and Deputy Manager, Waitrose Tilehurst in 1984. In 1985 he was promoted to Branch Manager, first at Wantage and then at Windsor, before becoming Operations Manager in 1988. In 1990 he was made Assistant to the Director of Trading (Food) moving to Senior Staff Manager (Waitrose) in 1991. He was appointed Personnel Director in 1995, and subsequently Supply Chain Director in January 2005. In January 2007 he took up the new position of Customer Development Director.

Tracey joined the Partnership as an 'A' Level Trainee at John Lewis Bristol in 1982. She was appointed Department Manager, Stationery, in 1988 before moving to perfumery the following year. She became Staff Manager in 1992, and in 1995 transferred to John Lewis High Wycombe as Merchandise Manager. Later that year she was appointed General Manager, John Lewis Bristol and became General Manager John Lewis Cribbs Causeway in 1998. Tracey was promoted to Managing Director, John Lewis Cribbs Causeway in 2000 and became Personnel Director in July 2002.

Evelyn Strouts was elected to the Board in 2005. She joined the Partnership in 1982 as a Registrar Trainee and her first appointment was as Central Registrar later that year. She subsequently became Principal Registrar Waitrose and in 1990 was part of the opening team of John Lewis Kingston, again as Registrar. In 1992, Evelyn decided to gain shop floor experience and worked in John Lewis Oxford Street, John Lewis Welwyn and finally in John Lewis Southampton before joining the Press Office in 1994 where she was responsible for Waitrose PR. She then became Chief Press Officer for John Lewis before also taking on the Corporate function. She moved to the then fledgling Marketing Department as Head of Communications Planning in 2000 and has remained in the same department since. Evelyn began her career as an officer in the Women's Royal Naval Service where she served for 10 years. During her career, she worked in a number of administrative and PR appointments, her last job that of Press Officer WRNS and QARRNS (Queen Alexandra's Royal Naval Nursing Service).

Responsible for making sure the Principles of the Partnership are an integral part of the Waitrose business through, ensuring Partners feel valued and part of something special, helping Partners to understand their responsibilities as co-owners and promoting strong, relevant and rewarding democratic engagement. Also responsible for providing confidential, independent and impartial support to all Partners in Waitrose. Jane joined the Partnership as an 'A' Level Trainee in 1975, was appointed Assistant Staff Manager in 1978 and in 1981 transferred to Waitrose from the John Lewis division as Staff Manager. Jane left the Partnership in 1989 to start a family and returned in 1993 as Staff and Training Manager, Bracknell. In 1998 Jane became General Manager, Office Strategy and was involved in the move of the Partnership's computer centre to Bracknell. She joined the registries in March 2002 and became Divisional Registrar in October 2002.

As Registrar, Laura Whyte's role is to ensure that the Partnership's values are applied practically and commercially in the implementation of the Business Plan by providing help and support to Partners. She helps and encourages Partners to understand their responsibilities as co-owners of our business and promotes strong, relevant and rewarding democratic engagement. She also provides confidential, independent and impartial support to Partners at all levels. Laura joined the Partnership in 1982 as a trainee Assistant Registrar. She transferred to Peter Jones in 1987 and was a selling department manager until 1994 when she was appointed Registrar Caleys. After working at Bracknell and Kingston she became Assistant Chief Registrar in 2000, moving to her current post in 2003.

Anne joined the Partnership as a weekend assistant at Waitrose Harpenden in 1985, becoming a full-time 'A' Level Trainee the following year. Over the next 15 years Anne worked in various Waitrose branches as a section manager, before moving to Personnel in 2001. She became Assistant Group Personnel Manager in Waitrose in March 2002 and was appointed Registrar, Waitrose Group 'F' in October 2005. Throughout her career Anne has been a keen participant in the Partnership's democracy, including being a Waitrose Councillor for six years and, since 1998, a Partnership Councillor. Anne was elected to the Board in 2003, and is also a member of the Partnership Council's Pay and Benefits Committee, and has served as Chairman for three years.

Johnny Aisher is Clerk to the Partnership Council. He joined the Partnership in 1985 as a graduate trainee in John Lewis Oxford Street, he later became a department manager in Jones Brothers and then John Lewis Kingston. He moved into IT in 1994 as a systems advisor for department stores, then analyst and project manager for credit systems, before transferring to Waitrose in 2001 as Office and Personnel Systems manager and latterly as manager of the Waitrose Information Systems team. Throughout his career Johnny has been an elected council and committee member in several branches and for the whole Partnership. He was elected to the Board in 1999.

Mark Price was appointed Development Director in January 2005. Among his responsibilities will be advice to the Partnership Board on our investment in Ocado. He joined the Partnership in 1982. Mark held various managerial posts in John Lewis Department Stores until he was appointed Managing Director at John Lewis High Wycombe in 1992 and in 1995 he opened John Lewis Cheadle (near Manchester) in the same role. Mark transferred to Waitrose in February 1998 as the John Lewis Partnership's first Marketing Director. In 2000 he was additionally given responsibility for retail operations adding the title Director of Selling. Mark is Chairman of the Marketing Board of the CIES, the international association of the food industry, and also a Fellow of the RSA.
