We commenced our operations shortly before we completed our initial public offering of common stock on December 21, 2004, and our shares trade on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol KMA. Concurrently with the completion of our initial public offering, we completed our acquisition of Kanawha and its subsidiaries, which are our primary operating subsidiaries and which underwrite and sell life and health insurance products.

In February 2006, James E. Murray was appointed Humana's chief operating officer. He has responsibilities for integrating all of the company's operations and products under a single senior leader, including senior products, commercial sales and market operations, service, information technology, clinical operations and Humana Military (TRICARE). Heidi Margulis was named senior vice president, government relations, in January 2000. She provides leadership for the development, execution and advocacy of state and federal legislative, regulatory, public affairs and public sector strategy, policies, outreach and initiatives designed to advance Humana's business objectives and to position the enterprise at a competitive advantage. Ms. Margulis joined Humana in 1985 and has held increasingly more responsible regulatory- and legislative-public affairs' advocacy positions. Jack Lord, M.D., joined Humana in 2000 to help develop the company's consumer-centric business strategy. In his role as Chief Innovation Officer, Dr. Lord is responsible for designing innovative health plan products and leading processes that enable people to navigate the healthcare system and support their health needs. In 2006, Dr. Lord began leading Humana's efforts to establish Humana Europe. With more than 20 years in medical administration, he came to Humana from Health Dialog, where he served as president and became a leader in e-enabled healthcare. Prior to joining Health Dialog, he served as chief operating officer of the American Hospital Association in Washington, D.C., executive vice president of Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, MD, and executive vice president of Sun Health in Charlotte, NC. Dr. Lord currently serves on the Advisory Board to the Director of the CDC, the National Biosurveillance Committee, and the World Economic Forums Global Agenda Council on Chronic Disease and Malnutrition. Marissa T. Peterson was elected to the Board of Directors in August 2008. She was formerly executive vice president of worldwide operations, executive vice president of services and chief customer advocate for Sun Microsystems Inc. in Santa Clara, California. Ms. Peterson retired in 2005 after 17 years with the company and currently serves on the board of directors for SUPERVALU INC., Ansell Limited, and the Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford. Prior to joining Sun Microsystems, Ms. Peterson worked as a management consultant at Booz, Allen and Hamilton and in various marketing, financial and engineering positions with Saturn Corporation and various General Motors divisions.

Mr. Dunbar was President Global Technology and Operations of Master Card International from September 2004 to January 2008, and president, intercontinental operations of Eli Lilly and Company, responsible for its Asia, Africa/Middle East, Latin America and the Confederation of Independent States operations from January 2004 to September 2004. He had served as vice president of information technology and chief information officer of Eli Lilly since 1999 and joined Eli Lilly in 1990. Mr. Dunbar is also a director of Humana Inc.
