Labatt Food Service

Since 1980 Blair Labatt has been President of Labatt Food Service, now the tenth-largest broadline foodservice distributor nationally. Labatt Food Service distributes food and related products to food-away-from-home establishments in Texas and Oklahoma from distribution centers in San Antonio, Dallas, Lubbock and Houston. Blair Labatt is also President of Food Service Risk Management, an insurance company formed for foodservice distributors. He is past Chairman of Unipro (formerly ComSource), the premier foodservice purchasing consortium. Blair is a graduate of Princeton, Oxford, and the University of Virginia, and was formerly a professor of English at the University of Texas in Austin. In 2005 he published a book of literary criticism on plot in the novels of William Faulkner. Formerly Chairman of the Board of San Antonio Academy and Trustee of Texas Lutheran University, he is presently Chair of the San Antonio Medical Foundation, the principal landowner in the San Antonio Medical Center.

Al Silva has been the Chief Operating Officer at Labatt Food Service since 1981. Since then, Labatt has grown from $8 million to over $700 million in sales. The company was number 11 in the Top 50 of ID Magazine (Institutional Distribution) for 2007 and was designated as the 1993 Great Distribution Organization, the most prestigious ID Magazine recognition possible in foodservice distribution. Labatt Food Service also received awards for Most Innovative in 1987, 1990, 1993, and was named Innovator of the Year for 1999. Al is a member of the Texas Cavaliers (1994 to present), Board of Directors for the Good Samaritan Center (1997-2004, 2005-present), Chairman of the Board at the Good Samaritan Center (1999-2002, 2006), Chair of Strategic Planning Committee (2007 to present), Board of Trustees for Alamo Heights Independent School District (2000-present) and Board of Regents at the University of North Texas System (2006 to present).
