Axel Claus Heitmann was born on October 2, 1959 in Hamburg, Germany. He studied chemistry at Hamburg University and the University of Southampton (United Kingdom), obtaining a science doctorate in 1988. He joined Bayer in 1989 where he entered the post-graduate trainee program. Between 1989 and 1991 he held various positions in the Central Research Division, and in the Applications Development and Manufacturing sections of the Rubber Business Group.

Dr. Axel Westerhaus was born on August 28, 1951, in Osnabruck, Germany. After studying at the University of Bonn and obtaining his doctorate there, he completed a post-doctorate in the field of transition metal complexes in Vancouver, Canada. In 1984, he joined the Research Department of the Inorganic Pigments Business Unit of Bayer AG, Leverkusen. Important milestones in his career included the management of the Titanio do Brazil SA (Tibras) joint venture in Brazil and the management of the former Silicones Business Unit in Leverkusen. He was also in the management team of GE Bayer Silicones and Head of Technology in Bayer's former Rubber Business Group. Before Dr. Westerhaus assumed responsibility for the fine chemicals business in mid-2004, he served in the United States as Head of Polyethers in the Bayer MaterialScience AG subgroup.

Dr. Gunther Weymans has headed the LANXESS Technical Rubber Products Business Group since January 2004. Weymans was born in Sevelen, Germany, on September 25, 1957. He studied at the University of Bonn, where he obtained his doctorate in theoretical physics. Dr. Gunther Weymans began his career with Bayer AG in 1985. After five years as a project manager in polymer research, he served in various management positions in Leverkusen/Germany, Baytown/Texas, and Pittsburgh/Pennsylvania. Key stations in his career include Manager of the Global Process Technology Group, Chief Engineer of the Polyurethane Business Group in Texas, Global Chief Technology Officer of Polyurethanes and Head of the Bayer TDI Business. He has headed the Technical Rubber Products Business Unit at LANXESS since the start of 2004.

Dr. Hans-Georg Schmitt was born on September 8, 1949, in Besch, Germany. After studying at the University of Saarbrucken and obtaining his doctorate there, he initially worked there as a scientist before joining Bayer AG as Head of a research laboratory in 1978. He then took on assignments with increasing responsibility in Applications Technology, Sales and Marketing and Business Management in Leverkusen and Uerdingen. In 1993, Schmitt transfered to Bayer Corporation in the United States, where he first served as Head of Marketing and later as Head of the Organic Chemicals Business Group. After returning to Leverkusen in 1999, he took over as Head of Strategic Projects at Bayer's former Basic and Fine Chemicals Business Group before becoming Head of Marketing in 2000.

Dr. Hubert Fink is Head of the Semi-Crystalline Products Business Unit at LANXESS since July 1, 2004. Fink was born on March 3, 1962 in Julich/Germany. He studied Chemical Engineering and Business Administration at RWTH Aachen University. After completing these studies, Dr. Hubert Fink worked as a scientist at Research Center Julich for three years. Upon completion of his work there he received his doctorate in engineering. Fink joined Bayer AG in 1988 and worked for four years in various plastic production departments as an engineer. He served as the technical lead in Filago, Italy, from 1992 to 1996, and was responsible for the polycarbonate production plant in Baytown, Texas, from 1997 to 1999. Fink returned to Bayer AG in 2000 to lead the Engineering Department in Uerdingen. One year later he transfered to Corporate Planning, where he became Head of Coordination, Investment and Technology. With the establishment of Bayer Polymers, Dr. Hubert Fink became Head of Global Operations Semi-Crystalline Products in 2002. Since July 1, 2004, he has served as Head of the Semi-Crystalline Products Business Unit at LANXESS.

Dr. Michael Zobel, MBA, has served as Head of the LANXESS Group's Ion Exchange Resins Business Unit since March 1, 2005. Dr. Zobel was born in Marl, Germany, on March 27, 1969. He received a scholarship from the Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes e.V. (German National Scholarship Foundation) and began studying chemistry at the University of Munich. He later transfered to the University of Munster, where he completed his studies "with distinction" and obtained his doctorate. In 2003 Zobel participated in a Full-time MBA programme in UK at Warwick Business School, which he completed also "with distinction". The Ph.D. chemist joined Bayer AG in 1997, where until mid-2004 he served in a number of responsible positions, including in Research & Development, Coporate Strategic Planning, as an Assistant to the Board of Management and as Project and Change Manager in corporate restructuring projects. Following completion of his MBA in England in 2003, he served as Global Key Account Manager for general purpose rubber and rubber chemicals. With the establishment of LANXESS as an independent company, Dr. Michael Zobel was named Global Product Manager for the Rubber Chemicals Business Unit. He assumed the position as general manager (managing director) of the global LANXESS Ion Exchange Resins Business Unit in March 2005.

Lutz Lingnau was appointed director in August 2007. Mr. Lingnau retired from Schering AG Group, Germany, in 2005 as a member of Schering AG's Executive Board and as Vice Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Schering Berlin, Inc., a United States subsidiary. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Lingnau was responsible for Schering AG's worldwide specialized therapeutics and dermatology businesses. He joined Schering AG's business trainee program in 1966. Throughout his career at Schering AG, he served in various capacities and in a number of subsidiaries in South America and the United States, including his roles as President of Bertek, Incorporated, from 1983 to 1985, as the Head of Worldwide Sales and Marketing in the Pharmaceutical Division of Schering AG, from 1985 to 1989, and as Chairman of Berlex Laboratories, Inc. from 1985 to 2005. Mr. Lingnau is currently a member of the Supervisory Board of LANXESS AG, Chairman of the board of directors of Micropharma Limited, a biotechnology company, and was a member of the board of directors of Sirna Therapeutics, inc., a biotechnology company, from February 2006 through the closing of the acquisition of Sirna by Merck & Co., Inc. in December 2006.

As we already announced, Rainier van Roessel will have operational responsibility for the Performance Chemicals segment and the country organization throughout the world, and will also serve as Industrial Relations Director. On May 15 the internationally experienced chemical industry manager Werner Breuers will also be joining us on the Management Board. We look forward very much to working with him. At this point I would like to add my voice to the thanks expressed by the Supervisory Board to Martin Wienkenhover, who is leaving the Management Board, for his outstanding contribution to our success in Performance Chemicals and also for his service as Industrial Relations Director.

Ralf Deitz was appointed a member of the Supervisory Board of LANXESS AG by the court on March 14, 2005. Deitz is a member of the LANXESS works council in Leverkusen as well as area representative and spokesman for the works council committee on occupational safety, health and the environment. Between January 1998 and July 2005 he was released from his normal duties to serve as a member of the Bayer AG Works Council with responsibility for the same areas. Deitz joined Bayer AG in 1977 and worked as a chemical production technician in various departments, especially in the research department of the Inorganics Business Group (technical laboratories) and in the Central Organics Pilot Plant 1 (ZeTO1) of the Organic Chemicals Business Group. He worked at Bayer AG for a year before training as a chemical production technician in the Rubber Business Group.
