Mr. Wiebo Jan Vaartjes, 50, was appointed Chief Sales Officer of LG.Philips Displays on June 1, 2004. He is responsible for the company's Product and Sales management as it paves the way for a stronger position as the market leader in the cathode ray tube (CRT) display industry. Prior to joining LG.Philips Displays, Mr. Vaartjes was the CEO of Philips Austria where he was at the helm of its full transformation from a manufacturing location into an Innovation center. He was previously Vice President and CEO of BU Philips Sound Solutions, a unit considered a fast-growing entity with leading positions in sound solutions in areas like automotive, telecom and consumer markets. Mr. Vaartjes has held several business and factory management positions at Philips, which he joined in 1985. This includes an overseas assignment as Plant Manager of the Philips Sound Systems in Malaysia from 1994-97. A Dutch citizen, he graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Social Studies from the University Leiden and got his MBA from the Interfaculteit Bedrijfskunde Delft. He speaks Dutch, English, German and French. Mr. Vaartjes enjoys tennis, skiing and sailing. He and his wife and four children are based in Hong Kong.
