Mr. Messick has served as our Chief Financial Officer since August 2006. He is a strong financial executive with more than 20 years of experience in accounting and financial reporting, pre-initial public offering and IPO activities, and management of a multi-national company with revenue in excess of $900 million. Other areas of expertise include international operations, cost control, forecasting, budgeting, and significant strategic and tactical planning. He began his career with PricewaterhouseCoopers where he worked for seven years in rapidly advancing positions of leadership within the firm. In 1993 he joined Worldspan as an Assistant Controller before being named Chief Financial Officer. While there, he prepared Worldspan twice for a public offering, the first resulting in a leveraged buy out and the second in a new public debt offering. Mr. Messick received a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the College of William and Mary and is a Certified Public Accountant.

Mr. Goehrke has served as Luna's Chief Operating Officer since September 2005. He has more than 25 years of experience in high-tech industry with a proven track record in turnaround and transition environments. From August 2003 to September 2005, Mr. Goehrke served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Luna Technologies, Inc., now a division of Luna Innovations. From April 2000 to April 2003, he served as General Manager of the Access Division of Acterna, LLC, a provider of communications test solutions for telecommunications and cable network operators. Mr. Goehrke holds a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Connecticut and a master's degree in Business Administration from the University of Pittsburgh.

Joseph S. Heyman, Ph.D. has served as our Chief Scientific Officer since May 2003. Dr. Heyman has over 30 patents and the distinction of winning 4 international IR-100 awards as one of the 100 most significant technology developments of the year. Dr. Heyman served as Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of Nascent Technology Solutions from July 2001 to May 2003. He had a 36 year career at the NASA Langley Research Center, retiring as the Langley Chief Technologist for the Director. Dr Heyman is an Adjunct Professor of Physics and Applied Science at The College of William and Mary. He received his B.A. in Physics from Northeastern University and his M.A. in Solid State Physics and Physical Acoustics and his Ph.D. in Solid State Physics and Ultrasonics at Washington University.
Dr. Froggatt has been our Chief Technology Officer since September 2005. Prior to joining us, Dr. Froggatt co-founded Luna Technologies in the Fall of 2000 to develop instrumentation for fiber optic devices and served as Chief Technology Officer until our acquisition of Luna Technologies in September 2005. Dr. Froggatt is a leading expert in the field of interferometric measurement and is the primary inventor of the technology used in the Luna-branded product platforms of the Optical Vector Analyzer and Optical Backscatter Reflectometer. Before joining Luna Technologies, Dr. Froggatt worked at NASA Langley developing ultrasonic and optical instrumentation. He received a bachelor's and master's degree in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech and a doctoral degree from the Institute of Optics, University of Rochester. Dr. Froggatt has 15 issued patents in ultrasound and optics.

Mr. Graeff has served as our Chief Operating Officer since March 2009 and previously as our Chief Commercialization Officer from August 2006 to March 2009. His responsibilities include operations along with oversight of all commercialization efforts, strategic initiatives and business development activities. Mr. Graeff has also served as our Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President, Corporate Development, and was a member of Luna's Board of Directors from August 2005 until March 2006. He has financial management, strategic planning and capital markets experience in both privately and publicly held companies. During his career, Mr. Graeff has been the Managing Director of a venture capital fund, the CFO of a software technology company that was sold to a Fortune 500 Company, and has held senior-level positions at various investment banking firms. In these various roles, Mr. Graeff has completed a public offering and has been involved with mergers and acquisitions with a notional value of more than $8 billion. He is experienced in a broad range of capital market transactions, strategic planning, and financial management. Mr. Graeff holds a bachelor's degree in Commerce from the University of Virginia.

Walker, Ph.D., Executive Vice President Dr. Walker is a founder and former President of Specialty Photonic Devices, a business unit of OFS Fitel which focused on the development of proprietary materials and which was purchased from Lucent Technologies, Inc. Ms. Kilberg has served as a member of Luna's Board of Directors since March 2006 and is a member of the Nomination and Corporate Governance Committee. She is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Northern Virginia Technology Council (NVTC), the largest technology council in the United States. She was appointed by President George W. Bush to serve on the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST) and also serves on the Board of Trustees/Board of Directors of The George Washington University; WETA (a Washington D.C., public television station); the Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts; United Bank - Virginia; and the Advisory Board of George Mason University's Volgenau School of Information Technology and Engineering. Ms. Kilberg has served on the Attorney General of Virginia's Task Force on Identity Theft and on Regulatory Reform and Economic Development. Among her prior professional positions, Ms. Kilberg served as Deputy Assistant to the President for Public Liaison and Deputy Assistant to the President for Intergovernmental Affairs for President George H.W. Bush, as Associate Counsel to President Gerald R. Ford, as Vice President and General Counsel of the Roosevelt Center for American Policy Studies, as an attorney at Arnold & Porter, and as a White House Fellow in the Nixon Administration. Brian Holloway, Ph.D. Director of Contract Research Dr. Holloway is formerly a tenured associate professor in the Department of Applied Science at The College of William and Mary, where his research group patented carbon nanosheets. Throughout his career, Dr. Holloway has been actively involved in developing faster and cheaper ways to produce carbon nanotubes. With three patents related to nanotechnology, Dr. Holloway specializes in the synthesis of new materials and characterization of thin films, surfaces and interfaces. He earned a master's degree and doctorate in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University, and received a bachelor's degree from the University of Florida.
Steven M. Joslin, Ph.D., Director of Manufacturing Dr. Joslin is a former engineering manager at MEMC Electronic Materials, Inc. where he was responsible for technology transfer, development, and continuous improvement of Cz growth processes. Dr. Joslin received his undergraduate, masters and doctorate from the University of Tennessee. He holds two patents.
Jay Sculley, Ph.D. is the Chairman Emeritus and former Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of The Allied Defense Group, Inc. Dr. Sculley was previously the Director of Advanced Studies and Technologies at Grumman Corporation. Dr. Sculley served as the Assistant Secretary for Research and Development for the U.S. Army during President Ronald Reagan s administration. In addition, Dr. Sculley was a professor and Dean of the Department of Civil Engineering at the Virginia Military Institute, where he also served as a member of the Board of Visitors.

Michael Daniels has served as a member of our board of directors since June 2007 and is a member of our compensation committee and our nominating and governance committee. Mr. Daniels has been a consulting employee at Science Applications International Corporation, or SAIC, a scientific, technical and professional services firm, since May 2004. From December 1986 to May 2004, Mr. Daniels served in a number of senior executive positions at SAIC, including sector vice president from February 1994 to May 2004. In addition, Mr. Daniels served as chairman of Network Solutions, Inc. after SAIC s acquisition of that company in 1995. Mr. Daniels continued to serve in that capacity at Network Solutions from 1995 through that company s 1997 initial public offering until 2000, when Network Solutions merged with VeriSign, at which time Mr. Daniels joined the VeriSign board of directors. From May 2005 to November 2006, Mr. Daniels served as the chairman of the board of directors of Mobile 365, Inc. and also served as its chief executive officer from December 2005 to August 2006. Mr. Daniels also serves as chairman of the board of directors of GlobalLogic, Inc. and as a member of the board of directors of Sybase, Inc, an NYSE-listed company that acquired Mobile 365 in November 2006. Mr. Daniels earned a B.S. in Communications, an M.A. in Political Science from Northwestern University and a J.D. from the University of Missouri.
Richard W. Roedel (59). Mr. Roedel spent much of his career with BDO Seidman LLP, an international accounting and consulting firm, where he ultimately served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. Mr Roedel currently serves as director of Brightpoint, Inc., IHS Inc., Sealy Corporation, Lorillard, Inc. and Luna Innovations Incorporated. Mr Roedel is chairman of the audit committees of Brightpoint, Sealy, Lorillard, Inc. and Luna Innovations Incorporated. Mr Roedel is also a board member of the Association of Audit Committee Members, Inc., a not-for-profit organization dedicated to strengthening audit committees. Mr. Roedel was on the board and chairman of the audit committee of Dade Behring Holdings, Inc. from October 2002 until November 2007 when Dade was acquired by Siemens AG. Mr. Roedel served in various capacities at Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. from 2002 until 2005, including Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. From 1971 through 2000, he was employed by BDO Seidman LLP, becoming an audit partner in 1980, later being promoted in 1990 to Managing Partner in Chicago and then Managing Partner in New York in 1994 and finally in 1999 to Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. Mr Roedel is a graduate of The Ohio State University and a C.P.A.

Charles Edward Hamner, Jr. DVM, Ph.D. is currently the President and CEO of Hamner Advisory Service; he specializes in management in the pharmaceutical and health care industries and academic administration. From 1988-2002 Dr. Hamner served as President and CEO of the North Carolina Biotechnology Center, and was a Research Professor in the OB/GYN Department at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has also worked as Associate Vice President for Health Affairs at the University of Virginia Medical Center (1978-1988), and served as Interim Executive Director for the Center in 1981. Edward Murphy is a member of the Board of Managers of The Egg Factory. Dr. Murphy is President and Chief Executive Officer of Carilion Health System. Prior to joining Carilion Health System and beginning in 1994, he was President and Chief Executive Officer of Seton Health System in Troy, New York. Dr. Murphy's accomplishments include negotiation of a single healthcare delivery system from the components of two separate organizations, development and founding of an integrated delivery system providing service to six counties in Upstate New York and was Vice President of Clinical Services at Leonard Hospital from 1989-1991. He also served as President and Chief Executive Officer at Leonard Hospital from 1991 until the 1994 merger of Leonard Hospital and St. Mary's Hospital to form Seton Health System. Dr. Murphy's undergraduate studies were at the University of Albany and he obtained his medical degree from Harvard University, graduating cum laude. Dr. Murphy has served as a clinical professor at the University of Albany School of Public Health, and Adjunct Assistant Professor at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, School of Management. Dr. Murphy has served on the Boards of Directors of the Upstate Physician Network, the New York State Hospital Review and Planning Council and the Troy Redevelopment Fund. He is presently on the Boards of Directors of HANYS Insurance Company & Trust, United Way of Roanoke Valley, Make-A-Wish Foundation of Richmond and Western Virginia, Hollins University, Center in the Square of Western Virginia Foundation for the Arts and Sciences, Virginia FREE and the Statewide Virginia Chamber of Commerce. Mark Murphy is a Manager of The Egg Factory, LLC. Mr. Murphy served as President of Supply Chain Services, a division of Johnson and Johnson Health Care Systems, Inc., which had sales of $4 billion and a staff of 450. He was also President, Johnson and Johnson Hospital Services, Inc., which had sales of $2 billion and a staff of 850. He is currently a business consultant for Johnson and Johnson working with Innotech, Inc. Mr. Murphy serves on the board of managers of Hearing Enhancement Company, LLC, and has previously served on the board of directors of the University of Tampa and Compton Plant Meade Hospital.

John F. Hay is currently a principal with P3 Consulting, LLC in Washington, D.C. Mr. Hay has over 40 years of experience in the national security arena having served twelve years as an industry executive and thirty one years in uniform with the Department of the Navy. Danville, VA -- Brian Holloway, Ph.D., has recently joined Luna's nanoWorks division as Director of Contract Research. Dr. Holloway is formerly a tenured associate professor in the Department of Applied Science at The College of William and Mary, where his research group patented carbon nanosheets, a new two-dimensional nanostructure of carbon that has potential uses in sensors, fuel cells, batteries and medical devices. His group authored more than 10 papers on the nanosheets, including one that appeared in The Journal of Chemical Physics (issue May 21, 2006), a publication of the American Institute of Physics.
G. Kim Wincup is senior vice president of Science Applications International Corporation. Mr. Wincup previously served as counsel to the U.S. House of Representatives Armed Services Committee and U.S. House of Representatives Veterans Affairs Committee, as staff director of the U.S. House of Representatives Armed Services Committee and the Joint Committee on the Organization of Congress, and as Assistant Secretary of both the Air Force and the Army. N. Leigh Anderson, Ph.D ., has served as a member of our board of directors since March 2006 and is a member of our audit committee and compensation committee. Since 2002, Dr. Anderson has served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Plasma Proteome Institute, a scientific research institute in Washington, D.C., of which he is also a founder. Dr. Anderson also consults through Anderson Forschung Group, of which he has been a Principal since 2002 and a member of its board of directors since 2004. From 2001 to 2002, Dr. Anderson served as the Chief Scientific Officer and a member of the board of directors of Large Scale Biology Corporation, a biotechnology company that previously traded on NASDAQ under the symbol LSBC. Dr. Anderson also served as a member of the board of directors and a member of the audit committee of Dade Behring Holdings, Inc. (DADE), a NASDAQ-listed company, from 2002 until its acquisition by Siemens AG in 2007.
