Mahalo was founded on the industry prediction that the declining availability of conventional natural gas creates a definite need for new and unconventional sources of gas. An extensive review of historical statistics and business research by the founding group endorsed the solid potential of producing coalbed methane (CBM) and shale gas. Industry studies confirmed that an unconventional well, once successfully dewatered, tends to have a significantly longer reserve life and a more stable production profile than most conventional gas wells. This gave credence to the Mahalo vision and on April 21, 2004, Mahalo Energy Ltd. was incorporated. Based in Calgary, Alberta, Mahalo is already well-positioned as a junior front-runner in the unconventional sector.
